    Wow. As a side note, I've never understood why museum security is so lax (compared to the U.S.) in Europe.

    Granted I haven't done an exhaustive survey but it has always seemed that way.

    I hate private collectors who want to display a priceless work of art in their homes or keep it in a Swiss vault or otherwise do something to keep it from the eyes of the public. It's insanely selfish and is just another instance of "**** you, I have money."

    I'd just hope my kid stole something good. I would then hang on to it for a few years before giving it away to a thrift store and then have my kid (who would presumably be older, wiser, and sneakier) come in and buy the painting a day later for two dollars. Then he'd go to the museum and then mention how he found a lost work of art and then sell it back to the same museum for millions.

    The whole idea of art as a personal investment is really annoying. To be fair, museums only came about as a result of private collectors showing off their pieces... but it's been a century.

    Apparently, they didn't feed the paintings for 6 months prior to burning them in the oven.

    This is why I hate, hate cave paintings.
