Sth Bend, IN SBFF T-Shirt Logo Submission Contest!

We like to get maximum participation from our members to make this t-shirt "ours". The person who wins the design contest will get a prize! (I dunno what it is yet, but something).

If you don't know how to make an image, here are some programs you can use:

GIMP (Free)
Paint.NET (Free)
Adobe Photoshop (Very, very, not free.)

Please submit your t-shirt design ideas here. Feel free to update your designs or add multiple concepts. We'll let this run for a month or so, and if we have some good designs, I'll post a vote thread for us to pick the favorite.

Note: Remember to note whether the design is for the front or back of the shirt. The less colors, the cheaper the cost will be to produce them.

 

And with X leading the charge, I suggest that the prize be

splitable, or have a first and second and third place,
and maybe have a honarable mention component.

Personally, I think X is all of those things,

I am anxious to see what kind of ideas spring forth. I've had my thinking cap on for a couple weeks, but can't get many good ideas. Although, here's a suggestion for the back.

 

OK, now I have a couple ideas (but I'm not saying they are any good ). I don't have a means of posting them here, but I can email them to someone who does (PM me your email address if you can help).

Let's see some designs, people! Someone must know a graphic artist, right?

 

I do now.

For both designs, I tried to incorporate some existing symbol or logo from South Bend - something that locals would recognize, but not necessarily people from outside the community. I then tried to "Star Wars-ize" the design. The point was to have something the represents South Bend but with a SW flavor.

Obviously these are simply cut-and-paste jobs and would need to be designed by someone with some artistic talent, but I just wanted to get a couple ideas out there. Also, I don't know if either would violate any kind of trademark or copyright protections. I doubt it, but I'm not an attorney (I only play one on TV).

I actually really like both of those, and they'd both be easy to make one color. I think with the Studebaker one, if you made the cirle the Death Star and superimposed the "S" on that, it'd be near perfect.. And the other could be done simply too, to make the vehicles look similar to the signs/in the same style as street sign pictures..

 

Hopefully, I have a contact for this.

Once we work out logo-s, slogans, wording and such.


and have some simple ideas, like those posted by WE,

and..........the really hard part, there are some polls and
some kind of agreement.

Then we can move on to getting the designs into the form of
vector graphics and hopefully do a final vote.

Star Wars--------izing

South Bend________stuff, and SSBF preferences, is the place to have as
much input as possible.

I mean, all I can think of right now is
South Bend..........kinda makes me think of Sith Bend,
but
a Universal Star Wars flavor for you guys out there in the outer rim,
seems like it could be a more successful choice.

In other thoughts, I was wondering why South Bend,
or

Where is North Bend, or East, or West Bend, Indiana.

It does seam strange that
South Bend is at the most North part of the State???

 

Yeah, that was my thought, too. It didn't translate as well as I would have liked using my quick-and-dirty graphic design method, but that was what I was going for.

Again, a quick cut-and-paste job by me, but that was what I had in mind - SW vehicles taking the place of the bus, plane, and train of the real logo, but in the same sort of silhouette method as the real airport design.

I think my favorite of the two is the Studebaker Death Star, especially given the company's history in South Bend. I just really like the idea of combining SW with a community identity, kind of like what Chicago Force did with the Chicago skyline.

 

I always thought the name came from the fact that the city is on the "south bend" of the St. Joseph River. Interestingly, this is the same explanation given on Wikipedia (for what that's worth).

Also, thanks for the logo suggestions, MT. I am continuing to brainstorm this.

For me, I am now thinking of an imperial COG, with a Rebel center
kinda at the heart of it.

am not sure how that would work,
but the thought was as a logo that might work
either small on the front, with some other design on the back
or
large on the back, with maybe the words
South Bend (star wars style) on the front.

oh well.....still thinking

anything i post on here that i've photoshopped, i use the gimp on all of it. it's a great tool that is extremely powerful. plus it's free! while not as user-friendly and automated as photoshop, it does everything i want it to.
