The Indonesian justice system is a product of European colonisation. It's a system used in many European countries still - Germany, France, The Netheregions...er lands. We shouldn't bag them so much, they didn't invent their justice system.

Also, apparently what Schappelle Corby had was 4 kg of high grade heads. European and Australian tourists pay more for high quality dope in Bali than they do here because the Balinese dope is rubbish. In short, that dope would have made her a lot of money.

On the issue of legal systems derived from colonial times, that's precisely the problem with Second/Third World legal systems--their legal systems date back to, and are as draconian and unfair as they were in, colonial times.

The parallel may not apply as precisely to the French and Spanish models, but the experience in British-colonised places like Singapore and many African nations was that the Empire (British, not Galactic, that is, but some of the same concepts apply) came in, installed a British legal system, and then left their colonial legislation in place when they pulled out. That same draconian legislation (including, in many cases, fairly extensive executive emergency powers...sound familiar?) was then used by those who came into power immediately after as a means to legitimise the dictatorships that followed. Singapore in particular was an example of this, and when the country legislated to eliminate appeals to the Privy Council in England, all forms of oversight disappeared.

As I say, I don't know to what extent the analogy follows under the evacuation of similar colonial powers such as France, but it would be most interesting to examine Indonesia's legal system from that standpoint. I don't think it's an answer to say that Indonesia's legal system is the same as that followed in France or Germany; that's like saying the rule of law in Australia is the same as that followed in England, Singapore, and some African nations.

Well, we also have to be thankful it's not a system based on shari'a.

Shari'a is Islamic law, derived from the Prophet's teachings to Mohammed (the Qu'ran).

And as you'd imagine, with laws over a thousand years old, it's somewhat... harsh.

Why would she take it into Bali? Would work better to take it out of Bali to Australia! Make more money!

Because there are plenty of Aussies, well anyone for that matter, that pay to get it smuggled in from Australia because everyone knows Bali weed is either extremely chemicaly ****ed with or wild growth that makes people go nuts.

What I mean is, it doesn't make sense, none of it does.

Yeah it does...she'd make a much bigger fortune selling it to the 'right' people over there than selling it here.
I'm not saying whether she's guilty or not, because none of us know, but yeah, that's my answer to your argument.

Clearly you've never been stuck in the same room as John Deeks for more than ten minutes. Never let yourself get sucked into attending a Wheel of Fortune taping.

a white bogan in bali being approached by another white bogan wanting to sell some mary is def. gonna fork out the money faster than if an indonesian offers the same. fear factor; white bogan is scared ****less of being caught in such a country and puts his trust in another white bogan..
as for the bali 9 - no comment. let's just say the aussie highflyers couldnt have played their cards better leaving it up to the indons to sort that bunch out.

"when corby does appeal dosn't that leave her open for a life sentence now, because that is what everyone is saying... "

Well, since the prosecution are appealing to try and get more than 20 anyway, she may as well appeal herself and take a chance.
