    According to a teaching book I just read - you should be able to read all but one of the above words as chirp from the beginnings of your reading education (i.e.-kindergarden). They are saying that knowing any special phonics sounds is unecessary. As a teacher the whole book seems to me to be a whole lot of CARP! (and you are supposed to be able to read that word too...)

    The word you can't read is chipr because all you need to know according to this book is the first and last letters of any given word. So tihs snteecne solhud be as esay to raed as lkonoig at the shsratip ersrntripe tohrugh a tcpsoeele. Yeah... our adult brains can read most of that sentence very easily but imagine trying to learn to read that way - completely context based? Yep, carp!
