Nerve Cells Successfully Grown on Silicon. From cnews.
Nanotechnology and Biotechnology...
very cool but at the same time rather scary...
this is really neat.
I like the idea of this.
potential treatments for brain damage by injury or disease, means to restore mobility to christopher reeve, development of prosthetics like in star wars, the next generation of internet connections, and the future of AI like in the matrix and the terminator...
we're doomed, aren't we?
Just what we need . . . the PFF Hive Mind!
We are SO doomed. I'm all for going back to hunting and gathering.
See, that's the thing - we need to be very careful with these kinds of discoveries. I honestly think that our race can handle it, but we need to make sure that stuff like this isn't abused. Of course, there will always be those practitioners out there who'll do anything for the almighty dollar, but the public needs to be EDUCATED about these things in order to curb that.
**snort** Who am I kidding... since when has anyone official ever wanted an educated public?
Still, I think this stuff is pretty darn cool.
yeah... there'll be scandals in sports for unauthorized bionic enhancement, hmo's that won't pay for replacements or cover them as 'pre-existing condition', laws biased against the handicapped, abuse in the law enforcement sector through implanted surveilance equipment, children who have cranial implants so they can be babysat by the internet...
...we're not ready.
And don't forget all the chips implanted into our brains when we're born that let the gubmint monitor and control our thoughts!
They do that now, didn't you know? I suggest you start wearing more tinfoil.
