Pittsburgh, PA Second Event (to be Official Fan Force Chapter)

With only a few days until the Pittsburgh Comicon, I thought this information merited a repost from the Comicon thread in order to get everyone's attention.

Right now, I believe our goal as a community is to become an official Fan Force Chapter. In order to do this, we need to hold three Pittsburgh, PA-sponsored Fan Force events. There has already been one. The Comicon is an excellent opportunity for our second event. We need FIVE (5) Pittsburgh, PA Fan Force members to show up at the Pittsburgh Comicon in order for it to count as an official event. Here are some quick facts about the Comicon:

? The dates are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the 27th, 28th, and 29th of April.

? Admission is $15 for one day or $35 for all three days.

? Star Wars guests include the actors/actresses that played Admiral Motti, Biggs Darklighter, Aurra Sing, Jek Porkins, Mara Jade, and Greedo. A LOT of other non-Star Wars guests will be there, too. Autographs will be signed!

? Location is the Pittsburgh Expomart in Monroeville. Let me know if you need directions.

? The 501st Legion ( http://www.501st.com ) will be attending -- myself included. If you want to get a photo of yourself with stormtroopers or Lord Darth Vader, now is the opportunity.

? The official website for the convention is http://www.pittsburghcomicon.com .

If everyone who plans to attend could post in this thread so I can get a general idea of how many forum members might be there, that would be a great help in organizing this. We need to plan a time/date/location for us to meet, and some people may need to carpool, so the sooner we can collaborate, the better.

What day is everyone going? I think I'm going on the 29th. I can squash two people in my car if anyone needs a ride. Also I think we need to set up a time to meet and where. I don't know monroeville that good so I'll probably need some directions, but the invitation is open if anyone needs a ride. Hope to see you there!

When is the group meeting? Unfortunately, on the 28th I'm going to conference for work. It runs from 8AM to 3PM. I'd love to go, but have to go to the work conference on the 28th.

 

Hello, I am Cpt.Adams, 501st's Eastern Squad ~Executive Officer. Ive already spoken to Oola, but Id like to encourage everyone to drop by the comicon. WEre doing everything we can to make it a blast!

 

Since the Star Wars Panel is Saturday from 4-6, it seems that would be the best day to go. (sigh, at least it is at 4, so I can get there)

We need to set a definate time & meeting place if this is to be an offical meeting! I suggest Saturday, but since I'm going to be at another conference all day, maybe someone else has another time/date that is more agreeable to the group. Some one needs to be in charge of organizing this (not me).

 

I agree that meeting on Saturday for the Star Wars panel would be the best choice for obvious reasons.

Is Saturday at 4:00PM possible for everyone?

Perhaps after the panel we can check out the rest of the convention or get something to eat.

 

I'm gonna be there on the 28th my boss said it would be no problem to get the day off.

I am really going to try to be there for 4pm saturday. so I guess whoever wants to meet we should do it before 4. Banditt, I deleted your emails and therefore your email address,email me again so I have it please.

 

How's about . . . we meet at 3:30 at where ever they are selling the tickets to enter the convention? I'm assuming that the ticket booth will be near the enterence. I'm not that familiar with the expomart, so I can't come up with a better place to meet.

Hey, all. I'll be at the Comicon on Saturday the 28th. I plan on getting there around noon, and I'll probably stay till around 6:00. I'll be checking out the Star Wars panel at 4:00, so I hope to see you all there.

If you all want to meet beforehand, maybe around 3:30, the best places to meet would be the following:

1) Meet near the tables of the Star Wars stars. Mara Jade, Aurra Sing, and the rest should be on the main convention floor signing autographs up until around 3:30, so if you just want to get together as a small group next to their tables, that would be cool.

2) The convention hall has a huge lobby just outside of the main convention floor area. There's a front desk, restrooms, and a dining area with seats and tables just off of the lobby, so that would be a good place to meet, too.

I'd prefer #1, since that's where all the action is, but anyplace is fine with me.

 

Your event has been posted on the Main Fanforce page. Let me know if it needs any updating and/or changes.

 

I'd rather go with option #2 and meet in the lobby rather than in the crowd around the autograph table. It's embarrasing to admit, but after a month and a half, I doubt I could pick the rest of you out of a crowd

Heh. I have no idea what ANY of you look like. How are we going to identify each other? Hold up signs? All wear Star Wars T-Shirts? Talk to random people in the lobby until we make a match?

I just go back from the Comicon. The Star Wars panel was great. The guest speakers all told some great stories about working on the films and some of the odder fan experiences they've had.

I got a chance to chat with Paul Blake (Greedo) and Garrick Hagon (Biggs) as I was getting autographs. Mr. Blake agreed with me that having Greedo shoot first in Special Edition was a terrible idea. Mr. Hagon let me know the original scene of Biggs & Luke talking on Tatoone can be found on a CD rom called Behind the Magic. (Guess what I'm going to get next payday) They were both very friendly.

The 501st Stormtrooper, Imperial Guard, and Darth Vader were very impressive. They escorted the guest speakers in and stood imposingly on the stage behind them. Their costumes were fantastic looking! It was also alot of fun to watch the reactions of people as they walked around the convention. (Yea Max!)

I was able to pick up some Ambush Bug comics and a new (to me) tape of Star Wars parodies. Love those SW parodies!

The only down side was Max Veers and I seemed to be the only ones from FanForce in attendence. I have to say I was a bit disappointed that we didn't even make the minimum five people for it to be counted as a second event. Were other people there and we just couldn't find you?????? I admit I came late (my conference ran late) but it was kinda hard not to spot Max.

I really think that this Offical Fan Force group could still work. I'd like to see this develop into an active FanForce Chapter. My theory is that more organization is needed and regular meetings would be good. Unless there is objections to this (if there are I'll humblely shut up) I'd like to usurp some power & do some organizing. I'd like to set up a regular monthly meeting (say, Sunday afternoons) at a one of the Book Store superchains (borders, Barnes & Nobles) My reasoning is that in a public place, maybe new people would join in and people would feel comfortable (safe) meeting face to face.

The closest store to me is in Monroeville, but I realize that is not very convenient for everyone else. If anyone thinks that this is a good idea and are willing to go for it, let me know. Tell me what Book store is nearest you, we'll figure out the best one. I'll contact the store and get permission for us to meet there. I'm even willing to make & print signs with the new addresses on them.
