Oceania Seriously America is screwed up

Example, Hurricanes hit Florida every year, yet no one is ready and its a relief and supplies is slow going.

Cyclone Larry hits and the Aussies are all over it.

Seriously, with govt efforts like that its no wonder I dislike the American govt and want to move to Australia.

OZ uses the slogan Australia A different light.

It should be Australia the brighter light

 

It's funny that America can organise themselves to go to war on the other side of the world but can't manage affairs within their own country as seen after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.

 

Is anyone else extremely concerned about the effect the price of bananas will be having on Eric, Banana Man?!

In all seriousness, is the situation actually being handled that well.. I mean, it's not that hard to handle things better than the US atm..

 

An inexperienced FEMA director and a conflict over jurisdiction makes the Louisiana situation different. Furthermore, you'll find the reason in Australia that the response to say Cyclone Tracy was more organised than Queensland is that Queensland has to utilise state resources, just like Louisiana did.

My question is why is OZ so prepared for cyclones and America isnt.

Was it your countrymen long ago that just said lets put aside money and resources cause we know there coming and we cant do much about it.

Hell we did nothing. Never really prepared and when we were supposed to be ready for stuff we werent.

Seriously, what makes you guys better then America.

Is it your culture or is something else/

I had a nice post written in response to beezel, but the boards screwed me over, so I'll summarise: Innisfail small, N'yawlins big. Katrina was going to be a mess no matter who dealt with it, but it could have been dealt with better for certain. Our SES rocks because a) we have lots of practice, what with bushfires and droughts and floods and tropical storms fairly frequently, and b) it's managed at a state level, whereas FEMA is IMO a little too large to effectively coordinate disaster response fast enough.

 

Our SES certainly does kick ass.
When Perth got hit by the tornado on May 17 last year, within hours my street was covered in SES workers. Looked like a colony of blue worker ants from a distance.

 

So I should be worried about the drop bears but not the cyclones and bushfires.

I have to agree, our emergency services are first class. (I was in Rockingham when bogans started getting blown away a few years ago)
