Yeah, November seem soooo far away at this point. Halloween will be suitably be dark (so dark), bleak and spooky, but hopefully we'll be able to light up our trees just in time for X-Mas.

Maria is cat 5 and will pass between St. Croix and St. Thomas on its way to Puerto Rico unless it hits St. Croix directly.

 

All islands will be affected, Other Jabba. St. Croix looks like it'll take a direct hit as it heads towards our southeastern shore.

Anyway,.... my thoughts are with all of you in the path of the storm.

 

Seems like Florida will not be participating in a sparring match against Hurricane Maria, which is nice as I finally managed to restock on produce items from the grocery store. Oh, and many people just finally got power back.

 

It's begun. Power's going in and out and the rain is starting to trickle in. Really hate it when the these things start in the middle of the night. Anxiety and darkness is a really bad combo...

 

Central Florida has been reeking lately. Turns out it's because Irma released "swamp gas" across the area. Driving in the Disney area, you can really notice the fecal stench in the air.

Then there's also the sewage/poop overflows affecting other parts of the state due to Irma.

 

Well, isn't that a ****ty development? Utterly apropos for the "Magic"Kingdom.

 

...but not as ****ty as the eyewall possibly grazing my immediate neighborhood. Things are scary outside, but possibly nowhere near as bad as they'll get in the morning when the thing makes landfall...

So far, so good. The eye is making its way into the island. No power since 1AM but still have running after for now. We'll probably have to endure about ten more hours of brutal, unrelenting wind and rain. But from what I've heard in the radio, the damage everywhere is simply catastrophic, and we've yet to experience the worst of the wind.

 

Hope that isn't the case Darth_Invidious. Wishing you and yours and everyone there well and not the damage as reported by the media. Well wishes.

 

On the "plus" side it downgraded itself to a Cat-4 for you guys?

 

Looks that way, for what it's worth. Dawn was dicey AF, dealing with minor flooding across my apartment and without having slept a wink. The eye is moving across the island and should be out by 2PM EST, but things are just a bit calmer on my end. From what little I can see outside, oh boy, yeah, this thing did a helluva number on us. And the aftermath and recovery process will probably take much longer than I feared.

 

The storm arrived during the daytime? That's much better than at night, imo. A hurricane, with the eye, at night and without electricity is downright irksome.

 

The eye made landfall shortly after dawn, but we were under its influence since early last night, then buffeted by heavy rain and tropical storm strength winds shortly after midnight. We're still having tremendous gusts right now though the crossing across the island seems to have drained its moisture. I honestly just can't wait for Maria to be ******* gone. She's made quite the mess.

 

I don't know anyone on St. Croix, but I expect the news from there is terrible.

 

The storm that's hitting Puerto Rico is supposed to be the strongest in 80 years. Jesus that's scary. Next year's season's potential is freaking me out too.

 

But... why is the Cruzan (rum) gone?!?
