I so regret not stocking up on booze yesterday. A grave oversight, considering the depressing, dark nights ahead.

Apparently the entire island of Puerto Rico is now without electricity.

I thought the same thing the day before Irma. Luckily, since my brother was in town, I texted him from work to make a liquor store run before businesses started closing. I still have half a bottle of Captain. :p

Soon Maria will head harmlessly off to sea or possibly to Manhattan.

She can bugger off and go to North Korea for all I care.

Ghost: there's no apparent to consider here: we are and will remain without power for the foreseeable future. Our weaksauce power grid just got hit with one of the worst case scenario ever to completely knock it down for many months. And now we got hit with curfew. Understandable I suppose, since all roads are just too dangerous to drive at the moment.

Darth_Invidious big hugs. I know that doesn't mean squat in your current situation, but I will hope that PR and Dominica get the power, etc. you need again asap.

best wishes for safety and rapid restoration of services and minimal damage to everyone in Puerto Rico and elsewhere in Maria's path. Turks and Caicos islands back in the crosshairs too.

"In order to take our minds off our troubles, we'll have a sing-along to songs from famous musicals."
    "What have we got?"

Maria seems definitively no longer a threat to the U.S. coast. The storm's projected path is Canada's problem now. Possibly Bermuda's.

I thought it was still gonna smack into NYC as a non-TS? :p

Thanks. But I can tell you right now restoration will not be rapid. Not by a longshot. The damage to commercial and residential structures - both by wind and flooding - is ridiculously extensive. Fallen trees, debris and flooding have disabled many primary roads. We got nuked hard by Mother Nature.

The Jews control the weather, so stop pretending this isn't planned.

Darth_Invidious good to hear from you. Given the horror reports it's amazing you have phone service.

I barely have service, tbh. Many cell towers went down along with the power lines and those that miraculous remained have no power. Thus coverage is limited and sporadic. Little to no communication within and with the outside world is just another item in the laundry list of things we will have to deal with for the next few weeks.

Guess so. But even now my cell barely has one bar of service. Yesterday I drove to my mother in law's place in a nearby town (an interesting drive with all the debris strewn all over the place) and had zero service there. Most people have given up landlines and that's why many folks are now having a hard time getting in touch with relatives.

The new server has been designed to enable double posting no matter how dire the situation.

Darth_Invidious : How about your phone's battery, though?

Invid, conserve your phone battery in case you really need it for a dire situation, we'll understand.

Thanks. Keeping the phone relatively charged isn't the issue. The issue is the almost complete lack of service throughout the island. Apparently cell towers are now being serviced fitted with generators which is why I'm being able to post right now. But...things continue to be pretty bleak at the moment.
