Then again, last time I saw that, I still liked AOTC.

 

So, what's the deal with Category-3 Hurricane Ophelia on track to hit IRELAND and the UK, of all places?

When was the last time Europe was hit by a hurricane? Not a tropical storm or depression, an actual hurricane?

 

There's still some speculation as to whether Debbie was still a Hurricane (or even tropical) when it made landfall in 1961.

 

Last night's tracking for Ophelia speculated it will be a tropical storm when it hits Ireland and Scotland. Hope it dials down to a tropical depression before it makes landfall. Be safe everyone.

 

Hey, fun times -- I finally got to do some plane travel through a Tropical Depression today (they raised the Typhoon 3 warning and I landed and took off in it).

It's much less fun in an A320 than it is in a 777-300...

UK had a hurricane around 30 years ago - caused a lot of tree damage. Wiki. Ophelia is currently forecast to hit the western UK and Ireland before heading into Scotland. London area is supposed to get some wind overnight on Monday but that's it unless the track shifts.

 

I was only a year old when The Great Storm of 87 hit the UK!

 

Then I'm assuming you don't remember any of it?

 

Nope. Earliest memory I have is escaping my cot and getting my clothes caught; was hanging over the side and my mother had to free me.

 

Thanks man. Almost a month gone by, and patience has already worn past the breaking point. FEMA has already brought quite a few crews and equipment from Florida's Jacksonville Electric Authority and other contractors to help with today's to the power grid. But the damage is so monumental and the red tape so thick that, Jesus, it's maddening at times. And I'm missing my new fall tv, goddamit!

 

Is it still unbearably hot, or has it cooled off at all?

Depends on the day, tbh. Days feel a smidge cooler, but with temps averaging the high 80's. Fortunately (?), they're also much shorter. But the longer nights with nothing to do or see are a bit of a drag.

The sky has just turned a very nasty colour here in England. Sky like this at 3 o'clock is bad news.

 

Yup. However, it would appear that the south of England is in less danger - the storm is hitting Ireland and heading northeast toward Scotland.

Apparently the cause is Sahara Desert dust being carried along by the hurricane.
