Gargh! Anything but the last week in April. *flops around waiving arms* I'm in North Dakota for a trip then!

Oh well, if you have it on April 24, I'll be there in spirit.

Bumping this so people know that Sewing for Dummies is on April 25. Unless Wendy decides to dump it so she can build an R2... Hehehehehe.

What materials, if any, should we bring?

I have tons of scrap fabric so no need there. I'll have to get on this once I move into the area. Look for updates after April 12th.

But if anyone has a sewing machine they can bring along, that would be great.

This is going to be a simple sewing class.

I won't go into putting in zippers since my machine does it completely different then most machines out there. Same with buttons, I have an auto buttonhole maker in my machine. If someone does bring a different machine I may reconsider teaching these.

Maybe I'll get everyone to make pillows, very easy ones, out of my scrap fabric!! lol

If I can make it, I'll bring Ken's Imp pattern. Hopefully it'll be a work in progress by then.

::falls back onto the face of the planet::

I too will have to be attending in spirit... I'll be at a LARP event (I hit people with padded sticks while wearing elf ears! out-geek THAT!) all weekend. But here's hoping you all have fun. I've got a few yards of indian homespun (the stuff they used in the prequels for the jedi tunics) I might be convinced to part with, if anyone's interested.

It looks like I'll be able to make it after all - and if I don't have to give my mother back her sewing machine before then (she said something about I can keep it if I want to do all her mending - yikes) I'll bring hers. It's really really old.

Have you begun waking it up, teaching it to talk (expletives and kicking the machine don't count ;) )?

No. Unlike elves, I think a talking sewing machine would be a bad thing. "What, no oiling? I'm dusty." "Hey, this bobbin's not going to last." "You call that a straight stitch?"

No sir. I prefer to let non-talking things not talk.

So Treebeard is now the sewing machine?

Well, after the War of the Ring, there's not much of a future for Tree Shepherds, so Treebeard had to adapt to a changing economic market. Then there was Aragorn W. Elessar's recession that forced Treebeard to consider a change of careers. :D

Plus, with the advent of technology, despite the defeat of Saruman, really, the sewing machine got so much more press than a tree shepard.......
