If Dorkman's hosting, I think he should pick one. Give the man some authority

 

Sheesh. I can hit that wordcount in a couple of hours.

I certainly don't think it should be discussed among anyone who might enter the competition. Basically, I think only the host, and the co-host (if there's going to be one?), should know the prompt beforehand, so that everyone is starting cold when it is announced.

The prompt etc should be chosen by the host and posted on the day the competition starts.


Word count should be left to the host but it might be an idea to do a minimum and maximum so we're not comparing epics with scribbles

 

Maybe the thread title should be edited to announce the start date. And then a new thread started by dorkman on the day of with rules and regs. I'd say it could jsut be in this thread, but then it may get buried. Ina new thread and opening post, it'll be nice and easy.

That's provided Feb 1 is an acceptable start date for all or many.

 

Feb 1st is fine by me but then I want to judge so it's not an issue really


I suppose in the 3 weeks the writing is being done we could then confirm who the judges will be.

 

I didn't realise it was still so early in the month! Maybe Feb 1 is too far away...

Maybe 2,000 to 3,000 words? I think anything more then 3,000 could take the judges awhile to read.

Earlier in this thread or the other one I think an upper limit of 8,000 or so was discussed.

I don't know how strict the word count has to be, I'd say anything that fits within a somewhat common sense definition of "short story" would be fine.

 

And what about violence, language, sexuality, stuff like that?

Will we have to keep it at a PG-rating?

I hope not....

 

Well, I would think stories would have to go along with the board rules. But PG to PG-13 I would think is good for a rating of the stories.

A good writer can write a story for any rating.

Fanfic ratings are enforced because of what's pretty much a direct order from the owners: COPPA bans people under 13 from coming onto the JC (well - in theory) but we have to assume that there will be 13-year-olds reading anything posted on this site.

I would imagine that anything that's going to be posted here, on the JC, will have to come in PG-13, tops. We might be on tricky ground even linking to higher-rated material offsite (because there's people like me around. I'm not 18 yet, guys); I know we're not allowed to do it in FanFic, and this is much the same kind of thing.

 

Ummmm...does this mean our stories will be posted?

As someone who has volunteered to be a judge, I would like prefer that the site standards be kept.

Nothing is worse than reading a sex scene written by a 13 year old.
