Amph SFF Writer's Guild Writing Contest: February 2006

I should have it finished by the end of the week.

 

This is a cool idea! It'll definetely end up distractng me from schoolwork I should be doing. Expect my story by the deadline.

There's a 3-WEEK judging period?! And we can't even read the other submissions at that time, unless we're a judge?! That sucks.

 

I thought I might give this a shot but I'm just not up to it. Good luck to everyone else though.

 

I was giving everyone some time to get acclimated to the writing and whatnot before picking judges.

At any rate, so far it is only the two of you, which might equal a lot of work, so I'm hoping we get some others.

FatBurt, read the first post in this thread. It states under Procedure:

- Those who wish to act as judges are to volunteer by PMing the host.

I've got my story pretty fleshed out in my head, I'm going to start putting it down on paper soon.

Well, I've taken a bit of a break from writing it. I suppose I can afford to procrastinate.

I have finally done it. Finally, after nearly three years on the JC, I have reached the 1000-post mark.

 

You've knocked up a K of posts in 3 months?

I've been here for 12 times as long and barely hit 2,500. Mind you, there was a period of about eight months in which I went completely cold turkey on JCC . . . sadly couldn't stay off it.

My entry stands at 2114 words. Now for a week's holiday w/o Internet. I should get some writing done but ee, there'll be some frantic typing-up come Monday . . .

Dumb newbie question...

I wanna enter the contest too just to see how well my sci-fi story rates but it doesn`t start with the prompt that was chosen... Can I enter anyway and just take point deduction for not using the prompt or am I prohibited from entering this one? I don`t care about winning, I just want to see what people think about it.

My book is actually part of looooooong 6 novel action/ adventure/ space fantasy series. the first book is about 700 pages. Approximately how long is 80000 words in pages? About 150 or less? Just curious cuz the first book is actually divided into 3 volumes due to its length so I`d like to enter the 1st volume. It`s not Star Wars related tho...

Anywayz, please let me know if I can enter and if so, I`ll submit it to you.

If it doesn't fit with the prmpt, then don't enter it. Besides, I'm pretty sure you had to start it after this contest started . . . but if you go to a site (possibly writing.com) where you can post stories, people can review them.

 

It's not my fight (I'm not a judge or host) but I just want to note, in the interest of logic and civility, that if this contest is short on judges and somebody is generous enough to offer their time to be judges, meaningless technicalities like where they offered they made that offer seems kind of beside the point. (I think that mankind will lose its dominance to the insects if we all start acting as authoritatively bureaucratic as DMV clerks.) Personally, I would've taken the initiative to PM the volunteer and welcome him or her aboard.

Having said that, if this post will in any way hurt my entries chance at winning, well, my brother came in and posted on my account!
