That has got to be the BEST fabric Shaak Ti headpiece I have ever seen!

FYI, I'm also thinking of doing a Cathar Jedi, using the Woochie cat prosthetic kit, with some pointed ear tips. I wonder if Cathar have tails?

I also went to Tandy leather factory today and came home with a 4-5 oz double shoulder of tooling leather, to make her apron out of. I'm working on a pattern for that, and once I get it nailed down, I am going to try and document the process of making her apron out of leather, complete with pattern, tooling techniques, and a list of tools used.
Once I get the apron pattern drafted, it's something I would be willing to share with anyone else doing the costume.

I'm not sure if Cathar have tails (it doesn't say on wookiepedia), my version doesn't. I use a wig with lion-like orange hair, fangs, claws, eartips, and a lots of paint... I'm a Tiger Cathar. I'll use it at a Comic Con on May 2. I'll post pictures then.

Would you be willing to share the pattern? I'm working on the apron design pattern at the moment- It's going to be a little over 30" in length when pieced together. I thought about just doing a segment of the repeating pattern, but after seeing some detailed photos showing how the apron narrows in toward the top, I decided to draft the thing as one large piece.
If it's anything like the Asajj Ventress belt pattern I'm working on, I'm going to have fun. Lots of little calculations to get everything scaled right, and this from a lady who used to suck at math!

I was thinking a grey and white Cathar might look really cool- inspired a bit by my big grey and white tomcat, who is currently nesting on my bed!

 

It's not really that difficult, the pattern I made was for the horns and you can see the shape clearly on the picture. Everything else is trying on the piece on yourself and making the adjustments... and you have to complete piecing it together manually 'cause it's very hard with the machine. Make 4 pieces, horns, front lekku and back lekku. Try using a cap, it helped me for the inside.

That is nice! Exellent work on the makeup job. I'm thinking of using one of the woochie prosthetic kits when I attempt a cathar.

 

What kind of cap do you recommend?

 

Like a baseball cap. You know the way they are sewn, like 4 pieces, like a beach ball, get it?

I sew the cap to fit my entire head then I cut the face space.
I did the front lekku separetly, those are easy to do, just one long stitch from side to side leaving the top open for stitching.
The back lekku I made it of two equal pieces, you need to see the back view of Shaak ti for the shape, leave the top open for stitching.
The horns were made same as the back piece, two equal pieces, the front most match with the fron of the "cap" piece.

Once they properly fit to your head, come the hard part, sewing them together, It is tough to do it with the machine, too little space to maneuver, I did by hand.

I'm making it againg to correct the back lekku shape, and the top of the side lekkus, which should be fuller.
Also correcting the shade color to a darker bluish.

Very nice indeed! Just an idea, have you thought of quilting the rear lekku or side pieces to get the raised effect seen on the actual character? At the moment, I am playing with the idea of fabric tails- sewing a layer of fleece to the underside of the outer piece of the rear lekku, and stitching it to produce horizontal indentations at several points, just like the real thing.
I've got the gentle giant Shaak Ti bust, and if you look at it closely, you can see what I mean. I'll have to take some pics later- its hard to find good reference pics of Shaak Ti from the back like that.

 

Yes! and not just quilting... the top of the back lekku has like decreasing rings shape, so I got to make those rings first then sew them together. It's gonna be just fine to make it that way because it'l be hollow and therefore I can fit my hair inside without using a net or anything else.

 

Something that might work for the rear lekku if a little more body is needed since they won't be stuffed completely- a sheet of quilt batting cut to shape and stuck in there, or a couple, doubled up for thickness. Great minds think alike
I didn't see the quilting in the rear lekku of that pic, so I was wondering if you were working on Shaak Ti headdress version 2.0

 

Version 2.0 allright.

The first one I did it in such a rush, I'm amazed it turned out good. It was for a promotion at a Best Buy store. The appointment was at 2:00pm and at 11:30am I was still painting the Headdress and finishing some details on the costume. I made an hour long trip in less than 45 minutes to get there just on time and then I had to make-up myself in 15 minutes. OMG! I can't believe I made it. It's like my brother says: "You gotta be a fan for that"

I would love to make a rubber/latex headdress but around here is not easy to get the materials. Even molding clay is hard to find unless you're a student of plastic arts.

I hope this new version ends up more accurate than the first, I don't have the Gentle Giant mini bust, but I have the 12" doll and a lot of pictures of the mini bust.

I might as well make the Force Unleashed costume version (with a ballet type unitard, hehe! it's gotta be PG rated, haha!)

 

If you like, I can snap some pics of my Gentle Giant bust, which show the rear lekku.
As for the Force Unleashed, I am trying to lose weight and want to do that outfit too, using a leotard or catsuit underneath as well. I'm working on the cape she wears, and have a piece of deerskin to make the loincloth aprons out of. I'm going to get some more deerskin to do the dress, and need to figure out what sort of leather to use for the straps. Deerskin would be too stretchy for those, I'm afraid.

I think I've improved my make up, and was able to use the robe's hood.

Aaaah, very cool costume. Do you need help getting the hood on over the head lekku? And how carefully do you have to take it on and off?

 

When my hands are painted, yes, I need help, otherwise I'll tint the headpiece with red.
The hood is VERY BIG, so it's easy to put and take off, first I put the rear lekku under the robe's collar and that's it.
You can put it on and off very quickly.

Glad you liked it, I just had it approved in Rebel Legion, I'm very proud of it, and allready working to improve it.

It's a fabric headpiece, I decided it to keep it that way 'cause it's better for travel, fits in a backpack and does not loose shape.

I'm hoping to bring it to C5, I cannot bring any armor costume, many friends had their costumes damage by negligent handling at the airport.
