Week 12 (12.10.07) - UDC 2 - Cray Mingla and Dolph of Almania

    56. Trial

    "Was the noise too much?"

Startled, she turned to look at him, blinking against the flood of light from the doorway. "Oh. No..."

Dolph slowly joined her. "Then what is it? You love parties, Cray."

She glanced up at the stars in the night sky, gleaming in the darkness. "I needed a moment to settle. Tomorrow, we are one. Tonight..."

    "Ah. Nichos."

"Yes. I wonder sometimes, you know? If I could have done more."

Dolph joined her in looking up, eyes automatically searching for his home constellations. He knew that feeling. All too well.

    57. Test

Hands shaking, she picked up the test strip to look at the results, and set it down again to catch her breath. Between this moment, where she could fool herself into thinking it wasn't real, and the next... so many unknowns. Were they really ready for...

Cray sighed, rolled her eyes at herself. Of course they were ready. They'd discussed it many times, this possibility of children. He'd even suggested names... Tero had been his father's name, his mother's was Malandra. Could she imagine running after a little Tero or Malandra, singing both or either to sleep?

    58. Preparation

The only dress she'd liked had not been the typical, traditional white most would have expected, but rather light blue that flowed into a darker blue with green mixed in. Technically, it hadn't been a wedding dress, but then she wasn't a typical bride, and her fiancé was now calling himself by her family name instead of his own. The dress wasn't important, so much as the occasion that would now bind them together as husband and wife.

Looking down at herself, at her gloved hands and the dress, and shook her head in disbelief that she'd gone through the motions again.

    Cray's Dress: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/4a/ff/39/4aff39eaea7dc033b5baef68b2350cb2.jpg

    59. Fail

"I can feel your self-doubt from here," the woman's familiar voice told her, and Cray didn't look up, knowing that Jade's face was impassive. "Stop."

Cray continued to look down, lost in the greens and the blues. "He got sick before-"

"Cray?" Mara interrupted, coming to her and making her look up. "You are not doing this to yourself today. Even a little bit, no matter how much it hurts to put one foot in front of the other. Understood? Out there is a man who loves you. Maybe not the one you planned on being there, but..."

Cray blinked at her, stunned. "Voice of experience?"

Fingering the ring on her finger, Mara nodded with a slight smile. "You're not alone today."

    60. Pass

Cray clung to him as they danced their first dance as husband and wife, wanting to lose herself in the moment, in the middle of a small group of friends who had come for the ceremony. Under her hands, she could feel his muscles move. Could feel him through the Force like she'd never felt another person before... was this what it felt like? This closeness? It felt... different. Good, and different.

"Another song?" Dolph whispered to her, and she smiled up at him.

"Oh yes. Another song. Maybe three."

    And so they danced...

A/N: It's been ages since a Luke and Mara set, so...

    Week 12 - 12/1/08 - UDC 3 - Luke and Mara

    56. Comet

The drink she set in front of him was gray and fizzy, Luke noticed as he reached for it and picked it up to study it better. Gray and fizzy with white striations. "What is this thing?"

Mara grinned. "It's a Coruscant Comet."

    "Looks like one."

    "Just drink it, would you?"

Luke glanced at her, eyes narrowed. "Is it edible?"

    "Farmboy?"

    "What?"

    "Just trust me. Drink."

He did. It burned all the way down, made his eyes water, and caused him to cough so much that she had to pat him on the back several times.

    57. Star

Months went by, and then their roles were reversed and it was she who watched as he prepared a drink with deftness, as payback he said, for the concoction she'd given him that had had quite a kick. Luke placed the drink in front of her, finally, and she frowned. It was the color of fine sand, with white things floating on top... and chocolate shavings. "Um..."

"This is a Tatooine Star," Luke explained. "And much tamer than that... thing you made."

"It doesn't actually have sand in it, does it?"

    "No."

    58. Planet

The next time she saw him, he was carrying a datapad and smirking as she joined him on the landing pad. "What's so funny?" The information on the pad he handed to her didn't really clear anything up. "Right. Still don't get what's so funny about something called a Paradise, Luke."

"I booked a reservation for dinner," Luke explained, his good humor shining through. "At the Paradise Lounge. For us."

She paused, looking down at the databad... "Is it as orange as this picture?"

    "No."

    "Lead the way."

    59. Moon

Through the window at the restaurant, Mara searched the lit night sky for any of Coruscant's three moons. She knew it was futile, that the city-light made it impossible and that, maybe all three were in their new phases. That part didn't matter, though, as she listened to him babble about students and teaching and what the twins were doing this week, and how much Anakin had improved in the basics.

As she turned back to him, for a moment she could forget how different they were, and that they'd started out on different sides.

    60. Nebula

"You've barely said anything," Luke told her half-way through dinner as they ate in companionable silence. "Is something wrong?"

Mara blinked down at her fork, then looked at him. "No. I just don't have much to say. And I love hearing you talk about the kids."

    "Oh?"

She nodded. "And the only thing I have to talk about is this interesting nebula we passed a while back. Blues and Reds, shining in the darkness." She waited, then realized that he was smiling and interested. "You want to hear about the nebula?"

    "Of course."

    ~*~*~*~*~

A/N: What Luke actually made in the second drabble was a Red Wine Hot Chocolate, but let's not tell Mara that...

A/N: Somehow, and I'll never figure out how, this ended up being a Luke set... Why am I scratching my head on this? Because my intent was for something lighter. And then writing did occur...

Week 12 - 6/22/09 - prompts provided by Mira_Jade - UDC 4 - Luke Skywalker (...and the terrible, no good, awful nightmare)

    56. Saint

Everything was quiet in darkened halls of the Praxeum as he walked, the after-images of the nightmare still bothering him as they rattled around in his mind and refused to fade. He'd woken an hour ago, breathless and shaken, moved to distraction, and not even a warm drink could sooth his frayed nerves.

Darkness and doom. Doom, with familiar faces and whispers from the shadows. Were they doomed to repeat what had gone before? Would it happen?

He wanted to forget, to go back to bed and sleep, but disquiet drove him onwards, down darkened corridors at once familiar and strange.

    57. Sinner

Eventually, he ended up stopping at a particular door, and he squinted at the nameplate, tracing the letters with his fingers, pondering the message of the nightmare, if there was one.

Caution, there must be, a voice seemed to whisper in the emptiness of the corridor around him. Caution, always.

Was it a warning? Or an omen of things past and present? Or was it simply something he dreamed, to be forgotten in the scheme of things?

    58. Savior

She found him tracing letters on a familiar name plate, outside of a student's quarters, and had to stop to watch him for long moments. She'd woken to an empty bed, feelings from the Force rolling over her in silent waves, and now... now she could see the tension in how he stood, tracing the letters of Jacen's name.

She wanted to speak, to startle him out of whatever mood he was in that had him up at this too-early hour, wandering and brooding, but the expression on his face stopped her. Instead, she joined him and waited.

    59. Killer

The name plate had become warm to his touch by the time he acknowledged her, knowing his wife wanted an explanation. Save for the images still bothering him, he didn't have one. "Hi."

"Come back to bed, Farmboy," she urged as she nudged his arm gently.

Luke grasped her hand as if it were a lifeline, and then admitted: "I had the worst nightmare."

She pulled him along, listening as the story poured forth from him, complete with his worries for what it might mean, if it meant anything at all. Eventually, he allowed himself to sleep again.

    60. Martyr

Safe in their quarters, in bed at last, Mara watched him sleep fitfully, calming him with her touch if he started to wriggle and cry out. Nights like this... it wasn't odd, either of them having nightmares. The lives they'd led, sometimes it all came up again. But this, this nightmare, the worry about his family turning... where did that come from? She remembered clearly Luke's concerns about his niece and nephew, and his Anoth plan to keep them safe from harm.

Was this another manifestation of that? If so, they'd discuss it in the morning.

    WarmNyota_SweetAyesha: Yep. Thank you. :)

A/N: So... in this AU? Lando and Mara were together briefly, which was when Ptarmaia happened, right before ESB.

Challenge Set Thirteen (August 9, 2010) UDC 5 - From the Ptarmaia and Irek AU...

    61. Enterprise

She felt him at her back as she studied the contents of the holo-message, marveling at one of her father's wild, or in this case not so wild, schemes. Who would want an underground apartment, though?

    "Tamaia?" Irek asked.

"For him, this is mild," she answered, smiling as he kneaded her shoulders with his wonderful fingers. "The mining operation on Nkllon? A walking platform made of Imperial Walkers?"

Irek chuckled. "Sounds complicated, just listening to you."

"Still... it wouldn't hurt for us to go have a look at this project, right?"

    "No. No, it wouldn't."

"...keep doing that, and I'll melt right here in this chair."

    62. Galaxy

They were met at the spaceport by both of their mothers, and Ptarmaia could only blush at the expression on her mother's face that was there one moment and gone the next. That flicker... they were going to have a long, long talk, she realized as she watched Irek greet Leia Organa Solo, now her mother-in-law, and her own pulled her away for a hug.

Words would come, but for here, and for now, she let her mother pull her into a tight embrace. The rift between them was mending, a little at a time.

    63. Federation

Gazing down at the little boy, only hours old, Mara couldn't help but smile. She remembered her own child, now a woman grown, as small and helpless as this... and those days, for all their complications, had been good ones. Healing ones.

A dark hand entered her field of vision, to touch one of her grandson's delicate hands, and she leaned into Lando in acknowledgement. They'd done something good together once, no matter what had happened afterwards. "He has your nose."

"Good," Lando murmurred as their grandson grabbed onto a finger. "Strong, too. Like you."

    64. Next

Standing at the window of his wife's hospital room, Irek looked out over the ever-present skylanes of Coruscant and held their newborn daughter. He wanted to honor his mother, the one he'd lost that Leia had told him stories of, from her time on this very planet when she had served in the Imperial Senate...

"Irek?" Ptarmaia's voice pulled him back into this moment, here with their daughter.

Slowly, he turned to look at her, then nodded. "Larona."

Ptarmaia smiled in acceptance and motioned him over. When he laid the infant in her arms, she smiled down at her sleepy face. "Hello, my little Larona."

    65. Generation

He pulled at his paternal grandfather's hand, wanting to rush down the hospital corridor to his mother's room. He was eager to see both of his parents after so long away from them, and Grandpa Han wasn't letting go! "Now!"

A door opened, and out looked his father, who then grinned and dropped to his knees and held out his hands. The pressure released on his hand, and suddenly Tate was in his father's arms, being hugged so tight. "Daddy!"

"Missed you, too, kiddo," his father told him. "Want to see your sister?"

Tate blinked up at him. "Sissy?"

    "Yes."

    "Okay! Grandpa! Going see Sissy!"

Han chuckled, and followed them in.

@WarmNyota_SweetAyesha ... Thank you! (Did I start a set and never finish it? Kinda. It was Week 13 for On Down Thru the Years... and THEN I didn't finish this one. Ack.)

A/N: There is never enough Roganda or Vima, right? Right...

    Week 13 (09.29.06) - UDC 1

    61. kiss

The touch was tentative, uncertain as she stood there, staring at the still-smoking corpse. The lightsaber in her hand still glowed blue, a glowing reminder of how everything had changed in the ensuing time between her choice to betray all she knew, and this moment that seemed to last an eternity in it's deafening silence.

Had she really changed so much, that she would rush in to defend someone else? To save them?

She took a deep breath as she turned the blade off. "I'm fine."

Han's short of derision was music to her ears.

    62. hug

The old woman who stepped hesitantly off of the shuttle, peering around nervously, was not the self-assured aunt she remembered from so long ago. This one... if it hadn't been for the new clothes, her eyes would have skipped right past her dismissively.

Widia nodded to herself. Perhaps that was the point, after all: to go unnoticed by the masses.

They met at the edge of the landing pad in a crushing hug of familiarity. Of family long separated and long missed. Stories would be told and exchanged, but after.

    63. smile

He found her leaning against a tree and had to pause to study her. He remembered her smile, though it was a rare occurance, but this... this seemed wistful, at peace. The most at peace she'd been... ever. "Hey."

"Hey, yourself," she murmured back, and pulled him closer. "How was it up there?"

Wes glanced up at Endor's night sky. "Chaotic."

    "Was down here, too."

He'd gotten that impression from how long it had taken for the shield to come down. "Roganda...?"

"Can we just enjoy this?" she asked, nodding to the celebration. "You're here, and I'm here. It's enough."

Wes smiled and joined her in leaning against the tree.

    64. frown

It had been ten years. Ten years in which everything had changed. Ten years in which she'd managed to almost forget this man who had been her mission partner, who had charmed his way into her bed on a dark and stormy night on a planet that she didn't remember the name of. She wanted to tell him everything, to yell and scream at him when he woke. She wanted to be the one to decide his fate.

Wanted to do lots of things. Roganda settled for frowning at Sarcev Quest. It didn't make him wake any sooner.

    65. laugh

It seemed so simple, watching them from a distance while in his arms. Seemed simple, but wasn't. She wanted to laugh with them, to feel the mirth and the release. Wanted to, but couldn't. Not yet.

And then he whispered something ridiculous in her ear, and Roganda couldn't help herself.

Wes smirked and caught Han's gaze from the other side of the platform, noting the approval.

@WarmNyota_SweetAyesha Thank you. :) (Kiss up there was what didn't work for The Table Was Crowded... Roganda and Quest were supposed to have a confrontation. I wasn't able to write it.)

    Week 13 (12.17.07) - UDC 2 - Commander AT-AV (Detour to Hoth Extra...)

    61. Festive

In the cafeteria, Wes watched as she ate slowly, wondering all the while why she was so hard to figure out. On the one hand, he'd heard her complain about doing endless repairs on the Falcon, and on the other, she'd been transfixed by a crack in a landing strut that might not have actually needed attention. She fascinated him, and he wasn't sure why.

Roganda jumped suddenly and looked under the table. "Janson?"

    "Yes?"

"Is this a cat, or am I imagining it?"

Wes looked himself, only to smirk at AT-AV nuzzling at Roganda's leg.

    62. Wish

Roganda glared down at the animal that was brushing up against her in a familiar way that was somehow soothing. "Janson?"

"No, you're not imagining Commander AT-AV," Wes finally said, laughter in his tone. "Clearly, she likes you."

    "Commander?"

"She keeps getting out of Princess Organa's chamber, somehow. Eventually, Mon Mothma had to give her an honorable commission, because she likes to hang out with the techs so much."

Roganda reached down to pet her, and AT-AV leaned into her hand. "Hey there." Somehow, it made sense that Leia would have a cat in the middle of all this. "Escape artist, huh?"

    63. Gift

Somehow, Leia just knew she should have checked the cafeteria first, she reflected as she watched Roganda lift AT-AV up onto the bench she was sitting on. Slowly, Leia sat down and watched them, wondering at how the calming influence of a Pitten could change so much about a person. A furry hand nudged her shoulder, and she leaned into it. "Something, huh?"

    Chewie grunted in the positive.

Suddenly, Roganda's head came up and she noticed them watching with wide eyes. Leia smiled and waved her off. They were in for a long night, regardless.

    64. Naughty

Roganda wasn't sure what to make of the unexpected Pitten in the middle of all this, and Leia hadn't come over to take her back, either. She smiled again, the nagging from without further from her mind as AT-AV jumped up on the table from the bench and started eating the dish she'd been poking at for the better part of twenty minutes. "Hey!"

"Ah, let her," Wes said, smirking. "You didn't want it anyway."

"Well, no, but I wasn't expecting someone else to want it."

    65. Nice

Eventually, Leia joined them and pulled AT-AV off of the table. "Sorry about that. She loves rations for some reason."

Roganda laughed suddenly, surprising herself and all three of them. At their expressions, she laughed again. It shouldn't have been funny, the detail of Princess Senator Organa's pet companion liking the rations, but it was, in the middle of the night, while waiting for the dawn.

Holding AT-AV, Leia couldn't help but smile and hug her closer. "Well done."

[face_laugh] Wonderful how everyone relaxes under the influence of a Pitten. Particularly Roganda
