11. Dreams Will Come To Nothing


So he went to Tatooine with the others. They do not know, they will not save him...

Sidious smiled slightly to himself.

What a very foolish child.

Oh, it was becoming so easy for him now. It seemed that no matter what he did, he would wind up with the galaxy in his grasp. Turn Anakin to the darkside. Turn the Queen to the darkside. That would be much harder, of course. But there were ways. Appeal to her sense of compassion. Make her believe the lies, make her believe it was the only way...she was young and naive. It would work.

And the love between them was there already. Even the darkside could not erase that, but he would allow the love to stay. Because as a family ...father, mother, son...and hmm, what was this? A daughter...the Skywalkers were the most powerful beings in the known galaxy.And if they were under his command, if they obeyed his every whim, if they were his apprentices, slaves and servants...well, they would be, wouldn't they? And the only people who might somehow be able to stop him were either trapped in another world or walking into a trap.

But first he'd have to go get the boy. He pushed a button on a comlink on his desk.

"Lord Maul," he said. "I have a job for you."

Bant had never been to Tatooine before. She decided quite firly that she disliked it...she was of the water, and the dual suns
made her feel desperately hot and uncomfortable.

"Split up, we will." Yoda informed them quietly. "Siri, Garen, Bant, head for Mos Espa."

Garen nodded for all of them. "Where will you be going, Masters?"

The two of them exchanged a look. "We can take care of ourselves," Mace said.

They all set off in their seperate direcctions, each with their own fears about what they were going to find.

Anakin was afraid too. He was beginning to wish he hadn't come now. He knew that if Master Yoda found out he'd be furious...and maybe not let him stay at the Temple anymore. Or ever let him be a Jedi.

But since he was here...he wanted to find his mother. To tell her...well, tell her what? That all his dreams had come to nothing so far?

Suddenly, something changed. Tatooine felt almost...cold, and it had never felt that way before. Suddenly he felt alone and
lost...

A figure brushed past him. Some part of his brain suddenly clicked into action. He wanted to find his mother. He had to.

Wait...was that her? There, in the crowds? He couldn't tell. But he should follow. He started hurrying after the figure, afraid of
losing it in the crowds. The figure disappeared into an alleyway. Anakin followed-

It wasn't her. It was a man dressed in a grey cloak that covered his face. Anakin wondered how he could have been so stupid. He turned to go away, but the figure called out.

"You are looking for something."

Anakin nodded and turned to run away, but an invisible arm seemed to pull him back.

"Your mother...am I right?" the grey-cloaked person hissed. Anakin still couldn't see most of his face...but it looked human.
Yes, it was human...wasn't it?

"Your mother's in danger," the human said, and Anakin felt his heart almost stop. "But I can take you to her."

"I don't trust you."

"You don't have to. Come."

So he followed.

Bant had stopped to get food from a market vendor. Everyone was hungry...and thirsty, but they'd have to put up with that for a while longer. They didn't have much water between them. The food was dirty and unappetising, but it would have to do. She paid for it and went back to the others.

But as she did, she glanced down a side alley. There was a man there, dressed in a grey cloak, with a boy follo

 

Interesting post. So Anakin is easily mislead as are the rest of the Jedi. This continues to intrigue...keep going!

Hey guys...I'm really sorry but I think this may very well be on hold (probably along with the GST and my assorted other fandom fics) until my mock exams are over...

It's only going to be two weeks or so, though, then I can start the next chapter.
