Okay guys, I just thought I'd toss this out there cuz I need all the support I can get!

I got my radio show timeslots!!! And YOU can listen! Yes YOU! Right there! Doing what you are doing now, you can listen ONLINE!

    http://wmbc.umbc.edu

My show is Thursday nights from 10pm-11pm and monday afternoon 1pm-2pm

I plan on doing a Star Wars show when they release it on IMAX. But right now it will just be my music for an hour!

Our station is very small, we can't even broadcast outside the booth with our weenie tower, BUT we do broadcast on the internet!!!

With the new RIAA law, we have to pay .000007 of a cent per song per listener. So my goal this semester is to have to owe a whole dollar for one of my shows. hahahaha.

Right, so if you are bored tonight at 10pm, tune on in!!!

Now - to pick out CDs.......

    Hey guys,

Not to rain on any parades, but the RIAA law says .07 cents, not .00007 (I was investigating possibilities of online radio myself)...so it's quite a bit more expensive. Still, even if you had 100 listeners, it would only cost 7 cents a song...but for an hour show, lets say you play 12 songs, that'd be 84 cents for that one hour. Now you may think that's not bad, but consider...84 cents x 24 hours = around 22 bucks or so? 22 dollars PER DAY?? That's nuts if you ask me...WAY too expensive for any decent operation.

However, I think UMBC (where I work, incidently) gets a break due to education status...not sure.

But hey, I'll listen if I can -- Thursday nights I am at Broadcasting Institute of Maryland, but since I'm a radio major, maybe I can convince them to let us listen to it. =)

Anyway, DOWN WITH THE RIAA and their REDICULOUS RATES!!

    Chris

Mutt said he might be interested in coming if I posted a reminder, you ALL are invited for this fun night of good music! I'll be about doing intern-like stuff so you can come and mock me too! What fun!!!

Something to do this saturday night :)

    Hello Fellow Traveler!

It's almost here! The 2nd Annual WRNR Rock'N'Roots Festival at the Maryland
Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis is next weekend! On Saturday,
October 5th starting at 7PM, you'll find the whole WRNR gang at the
Maryland Hall to hear fantastic live music from Seven Nations, Corey Harris
and The 5x5 Band, and Howie Day.

Seven Nations is an amazing Orlando-based band whose Celtic and traditional
American rock foundation supports not only a driving modern rock guitar
attack but also the brooding beauty of a violin, bagpipes and a mandolin.
Their new album, "And Now Its Come to This," is being heard on major stages
across the country and WRNR is proud to welcome this most unique group of
musicians to the Rock'N'Roots Festival! For more on Seven Nations, check
    out: www.Sevennations.com.

Corey Harris creates honest and exciting Blues music based on a thorough
understanding of the tradition from the Delta to the Caribbean to Africa.
Harris' new (and critically-lauded) album, "Downhome Sophisticate", plays
like a catalog of American musical styles including Jazz, Reggae, R&B,
Gospel, Funk, Motown, and of course, Blues, but Harris is no music
librarian. Harris is fresh, raw and original and is sure to please the
Roots aficionado and newcomer alike! For more on Corey Harris, check out:
    www.CoreyHarrismusic.com.

Howie Day is a remarkable young songwriter from Bangor, Maine. Day cut his
teeth in the coffeehouses of Boston and because of intensive touring where
his talent shown brightly, Day landed opening slots for Dave Matthews, the
Wallflowers, and David Gray. Armed only with an acoustic guitar, Day uses
two feet to trigger an array of delay pedals he uses to create an invisible
orchestra. He slaps his guitar for backbeat, picks the melody out on a
couple of strings, and sings background vocals. Day says, "I'm looking
forward to showing the people what I can do." His star is rising fast and
we'd love for you to catch his performance in an intimate setting! For more
on Howie Day, check out: www.HowieDay.com.

Tickets for the WRNR Rock'N'Roots Festival are $25.00 (with no additional
charges) and are available through the MHCA box office at 410-263-5544 or
    by ordering online
    <http://www.seatadvisor.com/cgi/trader/lookup_ads_dyn.pl?login=MHCA>. There
will be beer and wine available. We hope to see you on October 5th for an
    evening of great live music!

Can you buy tickets at the door or do you have to have advance tickets? Nice to know there's going to be beer at this event!

Gee, Mutt, from the sound of this thing if I went they'd probably offer me a walker at the door and everyone would be calling me "ma'am" all night.

Plus all my kid's friends would be like: "Dude, your Mom's a dork".

aw, Mon Mothma, it's not true! I know someone who is probably around your age who is coming. The target demographic for WRNR is apparently 37 years old but whatever. It should be a very mixed crowd age-wise because all 3 groups have VERY different fan bases!

Tickets will be on sale at the door! (I'll be manning the WRNR booth too, so you can even say hello as you walk in!!!!)

Hope to see some of you there! should be a fun night!

Okay, so the week after next (Nov. 7th) I think I'm going to do a Star Wars themed radio show to commemorate the release of AOTC on the IMAX.

And as much as I love John Williams, I don't want to just play the soundtrack to the movie, I want some TUNES!

So if anyone knows any star wars related songs, songs that make blatant star wars references, etc.. Please post them here so I can download them this week. :)

    Thanks!

    Orangerererfullerfull -

I have a really cool book full of writers writing on the topic of Star Wars in general, and one person wrote on "Star Wars and hip hop" -- it had a huge list of hip hop songs with blatant references -- but I dunno if that fits into your genre -- do you want the list? If so I can publish it here.

gh0stdevil gh0stdevil (wait, if I say it 3 times will you appear?)

Sounds cool, I don't need a list of 100 songs but pick a few that you think are worthy and send me a list. All styles of music are welcome on my show, the broader the mix, the better. :)

Well, heh, when I said huge, I kinda was over-zealous, it's only like 10-15 or so. I'll post it later today when I go home.

BTW, I saw ya in the station (the University Center is the building I work in), but your back was turned, and I couldn't tell if it was you, so I didn't wanna do one of those embarrasing "Oh...it's...NOT...who I thought it was" things. But now I'm almost positive it was you -- yesterday morning-ish...
