I'm generally indifferent to remakes. I guess it's because I'm not passionately attached to many movies, if any. So I don't care enough to get worked up over it. It's the same with Predator, though I question the need to even do it. There's not really anything particularly unique or compelling about Predator to delve into differently. I mean, it's a fun movie... about a squad of soldiers being hunted by an invisible alien. But how many times and in how many different ways can you do that, really?

Wait, why? The original is awesome and still holds up. Also, Predators was done welle nough that it warrants a sequel if anything yet they are going to pass on that to reboot it even though technically Predators rebooted it enough to continue on so people would forget about the AvP movies.

    Why bad movies happen

I was hoping for a Die Hard vs. Predator movie, but it never happened, and now Bruce Willis is too old.

Will this version also produce two future U.S. governors?

How about The Running Predator instead? They capture one in a tv run dystopia and make it take part in a deadly game show to win its freedom.

    No wait!

Close Encounters of the Yautja Kind.

Richard Dreyfuss builds a mud tower and like many others runs off to the Devil's Towers to encounter aliens. But when the ship lands instead of friendly, big eyed, skinny aliens yautja jump out and the hunt begins!

    No Wait!

Predator's Day. A predator goes on the hunt, then wakes up the next day and goes on...the same hunt.

I like Shane Black. But this is a terrible, terrible idea. But hey, if it makes Shane Black some dough so he can go on to make something that's not terrible, I say go for it.

In this day and age of scrawny Hollywood pretty boys, can there be any doubt that only one man is worthy to fill the shoes of Arnold; Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I suppose I could settle for Vin Diesel, but I get the feeling it'll ultimately be someone along the lines of Channing Tatum [face_sigh] .

I've updated the title accordingly. I'm much more optimistic about this, compared to "that's cool, but why a reboot?" iffiness.

Interesting. I guess now my question shifts from "What new spin can you put on the original story?" to "What new spin can you put on 'An alien hunter vs. humans'?".

I'd actually like to see them take things back in time. Predator vs. Knights/Vikings/Mayans/Egyptians/Centurions. Predator vs. cowboys (shivers recalling Cowboys vs. Aliens). Predator vs. WW II soldiers. Something with a different aesthetic than we've seen before, where the humans are at a severe technological disadvantage.

I don't know. Maybe slightly more optimistic at this point. The phrase "inventive sequel" needs to be stricken from popular usage though. It's either a sequel or its not, and it's a reboot. An "inventive sequel" means something like "our movie takes place in the future, on a space station which orbits Mars, and has laser guns, but one of the characters is the great, great grandson of Col. Dutch-see there's an old picture of him hanging on the wall..."

Prometheus was an "inventive sequel." And while I'm torn on the merits of that movie, what I can say is that it would have been a generally better hard sci fi film without any previous Alien connection. Excuse me, dancing around in the Alien universe. Otherwise, the Alien elements come off as just looking to sell tickets.

If Black actually integrates story elements from the first Predator to make a decent sequel. Great. But what elements could be carried on to a sequel? Otherwise "inventive sequel" just seems like the D nozzle way to say reboot.
