Mirax listened as Mara groused about Luke taking on yet another mission while she herself had arranged to be free from any feelancing duties for Karrde.

"And by the time he gets done saving some backwater world from a crisis they were too stubborn or stupid to prevent ..." Mara finished and trailed off and reached again for the carton of choc-berry ice cream with extra caramel sprinkles. "Thanks for being a listening ear, Mirax." She said in unaccustomed candor. It was something else Mara was getting used to, having a female friend to confide in.

Mirax laughed. "You're welcome. Believe me, I've often regretted not having someone to vent when Corran and my dad go toe to toe. Playing mediator between those two - talk about a headache!"

"Men! You cannot live with or without them." Mara said. "Luke told me his sister has said that on more than one occasion and now I am beginning to know what that means."

Mirax rolled her eyes. "Living with Han?! I don't doubt it. You think it's a Correllian thing?"

"No," Mara answered with finality. "it's a male thing."

The women shared an understanding glance.

They knew that they might complain at times, but they also knew they were among the fortunate ones - each of them had a guy who would leap into the Sarlaac's pit for them.

LOL! So true. It's often forgot that Mara and Mirax have a long history. They would be the type to sit back and get into the girl talk about their men.

But for all the irritation and annoying tendencies of Luke and Corran, Mara and Mirax wouldn't have them any other way.

Thank you, life got crazy and I had no time to be on here for quite a while, but it's nice to be back and catching up!

 

Woot, because I'm feeling H/L in a big fat way today.

Leia was feeling particularly frustrated with the political thing that day. Too many meetings with not enough agreement. She felt the burden of choices and losses - her kids were not strangers to her thankfully - but they could have been. For someone who had vowed to value family - because it literally could be lost in a blink! - she had often found herself pushed and pulled by circumstance and external obligations to put kids and husband and down time in second place.

Sad to say, the kids had gotten used to it - the girls - when they had reached teen years had especially felt the need of their mom and she had put her foot down hoping it wasn't too late. she had started to say no to all the other demands and yes more to her family's needs and wants. Her sons - as boys would - rolled with it and put on nonchalance, but she could tell they were happy when she gave them a hug and a listening ear.

Han - quantity had sometimes been lacking but quality never was. He had a way of making her feel like royalty in the best way. He'd come in and rub her shoulders - give her little kisses until she was one big heap of soggy contentment. Then he'd quirk that crooked grin and say "Well, Your Worshipfulness, anything else you want me to do before you fall asleep on the couch?" She'd laugh and say something like - a slow dance, a hot cup of chai. Or just more cuddles.

Any or all of the above, it was the sweet and wonderful way to end a long day and begin a restful night.

Such a sweet look into a happy marriage and a healthy family. This is what their life should have been, restful and fulfilling,

Spinning off and inspired by her "Impatient Patient" where Han gets sick on Hoth and gets very efficient nursing care.

A flu bug had gone the rounds of the Solo household. At the first sign of sniffles and cough, Han had dashed off to the healers' facility - proactively! And got a preemptive shot of innoculation.

Leia had been puzzled by his actions and so asked why.

"I thought one shot was better than a dozen and I do not want to be nursed by anyone but you. Ever since that time on Hoth when ..."

Leia's eyes flew wide with recollection. "When you gave that nurse a hard time and a very memorable thank you."

"She was speechless afterwards, I would bet!"

"One you would win." Leia laughed.

Luke watched as Mara took a graceful dive into the breaking sapphire waves. She was wearing a tankini bathing outfit, a shade of green just slightly lighter than her emerald eyes. Her lithe figure was hugged snugly by the outfit and he drank in every line.

"Join me, Skywalker." She said, knowing he was fascinated by all things liquified.

He grinned and eagerly raced into the surf. He was more captivated by his wife! He slid an arm around her slim waist and planted tiny kisses along her throat and neck to her shoulder. Then he blew into her ear. "Have I told you today that I think you're beautiful and I love you?" He whispered.

She laughed and said: "This morning, quite convincingly."

He grinned in happy recollection. "Vacations! Nothing can top a vacation without our comm-pagers."

She laughed and said: "Where we can stay in, way past breakfast."

Luke smirked in happy triumph. Mara was ostensibly not a morning person, but there was one marital pastime that could get her up and happily cooperative first thing at dawn, and he was proud to have discovered it early-ish during their honeymoon!

They swam in contented silence, enjoying the play of sunlight over water and sand.

He loved the many seeming contradictions of Mara, Luke thought as they dove and chased one another through the warm waves. She was playful, yet focused; perceptive and intuitive, and very, very passionate. There were hidden recesses that only he knew--private pains and secret longings. Sometimes it took his breath away to think of the privilige of loving and being loved by this remarkable lady.

Dawhhhh this was so sweet!!! I love it!!! You're the best I love the idea of them swimming and Mara knowing that Luke loves water. And he IS Lucky he gets to have such an awesome firecracker!!!

 

Such a sweet look at a happy relationship. Those perfect vacation days that you wish could go on forever. I like how you referred to Luke's considering it a privilege to be loved by her.

Jaina frowned as she slung her carry-all case over her shoulder. She and Kirana Ti had just come back from a mission of mediating a dispute on a Corporate Sector world. It had given her a hefty migraine listening to the self-important fools natter on and on and on ...

She sank into her desk chair and flicked on her 'padd to file a report for review by the Council. Just summarizing events made her head ache all over again.

She had left her door ajar - which she suddenly realized when a familiar presence tingled at her nerves. Pleasantly.

Agile and deft hands started to knead the tension from her shoulders.

"Kyp." She said on a sigh. "That feels too good."

His green eyes laughed into hers. "Now that I have your permission...." He teased lightly.

She smirked. He'd never patronized or condescended with her. She was grateful for that. She thought of something, though. "Kirana might like a massage...?" She said and trailed off. It was no secret that Kirana was attracted to Kyp.

Kyp shrugged. "Really?" His tone was disinterested. Kirana was not his type, but Jaina certainly could be. Jaina felt a thrill of surprise as she caught this thought from him.

"How about it, Jay?" Kyp said, taking a chance. "Dinner tonight, or if you're not up to it, tomorrow?"

"Sure, why not?" She said. Time to find out if her adolescent crush really could turn into something. "What makes you ask now, though?" She asked with her parents' directness.

He laughed. "It just feels ... like the best time." He answered thoughtfully.

That sounded suspiciously like what had made her dad realize he should clue Mom in on how he really felt about her. That made Jaina feel all kinds of fluttery inside.

Because that was exactly what her Uncle had intimated about his proposing to Aunt Mara in the most ridiculously impulsive fashion.

Living for the Moment

It's not an easy thing for her to do: live for the moment. Contingency plans and all that. She is not one to stay stuck in the quagmire of past choices and rejected paths.

Luke, on the other hand, can sometimes embrace the joys of the moment and the cares of the passt and worries for the future can dissipate. It is a talent she admires, secretly. Then at other times he gets mired in past crazy choices, the entire Byss episode.

When this happens, it is Mara who anchors him in the serenity and pragmatism of now.

Embracing the moment - she is learning gradually to do this, enjoying walks by a river, slow dances in the starlight, waking up to hot chocolate and warm embraces at dawn...

Their sparring matches, verbal and otherwise, have always been a source of intrinsic pleasure for Mara, even as far back as the aftermath of the first Thrawn crisis.

The sight of luke emerging from the 'fresher afterwards - a covert delight.

Thinking of this, she tosses him a wink. "How about a spar?"

"You think you can keep up?" He teases, blue eyes laughing.

He knows she will jump at the challenge. He knows her too well.

"You've got that backwards, and well you know." She snarks, eagerly.

He grins with his own anticipation, knowing that afterwards when he asks her to share a saniisteam - she won't decline.
