Toby Jones looks like he's making an appearance, he's currently in "The Secret Agent" where he's playing an informant turned revolutionary.

 

Well, that episode was excellent right up until it wasn't...

 

I thought it was really good (I like it when they're sticking to original stories adaptations) until it became all about Mary in the middle, which was meh, but thankfully they rectified it at the end. And really, after Mary's backstory was fully revealed, killing her off was the obvious next step. I did find John's reaction and subsequent rejection of Sherlock a bit too extreme. They've already done the "John is mad at Sherlock but eventually comes round" thing twice, and now they'll have to do it again. Unless the next episode takes place after a longer period of time and the two of them are already reconciled.

I just wish the show went from being full of its own mythology back to Sherlock and John solving mysteries.

 

Yep, that's pretty much my take. Saw it coming way before they actually did it.

First hour? Excellent.

Last 30 mins? Dire.

I really did expect more from Gatiss than the man-cheats-on-wife-but-she-is-killed-before-he-confesses-cue-massive-guilt device.

 

I'm withholding judgement on that one. While I can see how it's a setup for a scenario where John is projecting his own guilt onto Sherlock and eventually "forgives" Sherlock when he realizes it, I also found it ... outright bizarre. I'm suspicious there was something else going on there.

 

Hmm, that's possible, will it be enough to salvage this though?

Eps are on the beeb, so it's free, I'll watch the next two, but with lowered expectations. There does tend to be one excellent ep per trio too.

 

That was okay. A bit too convoluted and convenient to say the least. But Tobey will be an excellent villain, so onward and upward.

 

I can't wait to watch Sherlock, and I must admit I am also behind on Doctor Who and Call the Midwife.

 

Well, well, well. That was unexpected! A really good episode, I liked!

 

Yeah the cure for a dreadful Gatiss episode was apparently a delightfully twisty yet emotional Moffat episode. Feels good to like Sherlock again. It's been a while.

 

Interesting to use Jimmy Savile as a basis for the villain.

 

I liked Toby Jones in it. I also agree this one was better than the first episode.

So Mofftiss made everyone think Sherrinford was the third sibling, right? But then it's revealed that it's actually Eurus. So we have Sherlock, Mycroft, and Eurus. Three.

Maybe Sherrinford is actually a fourth??

This was the best episode in a really long time (and I say that as someone who quite enjoyed The Abominable Bride).
