I think the movie was too violent for PG. Every Star Wars movie from ROTS onwards have been rated PG-13. What do you think?

It's M-15 in Australia, same as ROTS.

I don't think it's really that much different to the previous movies violence wise. I think it was Shmi's death scene and the monsters in the arena that got the film the PG. ROTS, R1, TFA and TLJ all deserved their 12/PG -13 ratings though.

    Don't forget Jango's beheading

Or Anakin getting his entire arm cut off

I can't argue about Jango but Anakin having his arm cut off is tame compared to ANH where we actually see the blood from Ponda Baba's and that film is a U.

Jango getting his head cut off is well worth the PG-13 rating.

I feel that, even though we mostly didn't see it on-screen, Anakin's confession of slaughtering the women and children, puts the movie's tone into PG-13 territory. Although I'm not sure that's enough to get it a full-blown rating.

Remember the scantly clad women in the night club scene? I don't know how to post a picture

ROTS is the only one that seems to deserve PG-13, mainly because of the immolation scene. Maaaybe Rogue One because there's a lot of on screen deaths, including all the main characters. Plus Vader's rampage at the end.

TFA and TLJ not sure why they are PG-13 though. I think it's more than PG is just super "uncool" now.

I think Palpatine's disfigurement/unmasking whichever you want to call it also got ROTS it's rating.

What Kylo does to Finn is probably what got TFA it's rating and well TLJ is a pretty intense film in general with it being the darkest film so far imo.

The novelization goes into more detail of Anakin' s massacre of the Sand People and definitely would of given this film a PG-13, like seriously, he drops a hut on them and burns them to death

Yes this movie deserves a PG-13.
I subconsciously think this movie is already PG-13.

We open up with a huge explosion/terrorist attack.

2 centipedes trying to kill Padme.

Alcohol and scantily clad women in a night club.

    Drug reference (Deathsticks)

Zam's face change scared me for years as a kid.

Shmi's death, plus Anakin brutally beheading two Tuskens.

Jango and Obi-Wan brutally beating each other.

Anakin's monologue on killing the Tuskens.

Anakin slicing Geonosians in half with green insides being visibly shown.

    The monsters in the arena.

Dozens of Jedi being killed plus Jango's beheading.

It got a 12a in the U.K. the same as ROTS and that's the equivalent to PG-13 and they cut out a head butt between Jango and Obi-Wan in the U.K. release

LOL yep. I believe it's some kind of syringe/injection drug.

If the plan to release all the Prequels in 3D came to fruition, I wonder if the film would've gotten a PG-13 when re-released in theaters.

That's the reason Han didn't shoot first in the Special Editions. Lucas didn't want the rating be raised to PG-13.

No it isn't. There's absolutely no basis for that assertion.

    I remembered this: http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/bbfc_defends_head_butt_removal_66745.asp

UK prints removing Jango's head butt against Obi-Wan in order to maintain a lower age rating.

Overall, I agree with all the stuff that's been cited about AOTC having enough to get a PG-13. I'd also add the fireplace scene. Nothing major, of course, but I think it set up a snapshot of intimacy (continued with the bedroom scenes in ROTS) that were kind of new territory for Star Wars. Sure, SW previously had Han and Leia in ESB and a metal bikini in ROTJ, but the manner in which the PT "normalized" a setting like a couple's bedroom was a step in a slightly more mature direction.
