    Spin-off from the Kick-Ass thread:

No freedom of inquiry, no voice - I should be completely shut out? That's hardly fair.

Rape is not a "largely female" problem. The CDC found that 1/100 men are victims of attempted or completed "made to penetrate" every year - 80% of assaults being made by women. That's the same as women. http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/nisvs/ Around the world, in war zones - men are victims of war rape too. http://world.time.com/2011/08/03/rape-as-a-weapon-of-war-men-suffer-too/

This is a human problem, not a primarily female problem.

This shouldn't have any relevance, but I have experienced a sexual encounter to which I did not consent. I don't particularly wish to discuss much more about it, but because of the particular circumstances I hesitate to describe it as rape - nonetheless, I did not consent. I have also been groped, ogled, and had women attempt to have sex with me when I did not wish to. I've had women try to push physical boundaries. These experiences are not uncommon among my male friends.

"Rape" is a hazy word and it's why legally, the definitions are usually "criminal sexual penetration" or something like that.

If someone pins someone down, tries to rip off their clothes, but immediately the victim escapes - I can't imagine calling that "rape" in the same way that someone forcibly inserting their penis inside you is rape. It's still a sexual assault, and an attempted rape - but if you shoot someone and they don't die, you get charged with attempted murder, not murder.

Simply because I have what you consider outdated views on sexual morality does not mean that my opinion should be invalidated, or further invalidated because I am male. You have displayed clearly sexist behavior towards me.

Edit: And to be clear, I am not referring to the time where I was tied down, and had 50% of the skin on my genitals cut off despite my screams and protestations.

Women are disproportionately afected by IPV, SV, and stalking.
•Nearly 1 in 5 women (18%) and 1 in 71 men (1%) have been raped in their lifetime.

"Made to penetrate" is not defined as rape in that report.

And you are a male, so shut up. You have no voice here.

However you define it, the sentences should be equally gruesome

Why did you only define rape as "rape with penetration?"

    I have three points:

    1. Men should not be excluded from dialogue on rape simply because of their gender or sex

    2. According to the CDC, the incidence of completed or attempted rape of women and completed or attempted "made to penetrate" of men are approximately the same.

    3. It is not logical to call a completed crime the same thing as the attempted crime.

With which of these do you disagree?

The sexless catholic "virgin" that has no idea what even a normal sexual relationship is like for either men and women is lecturing the JCC on what is or isn't rape.

Yup, let's put that down as most idiotic browsed thing of the day...

I think attempted rape should be defined as attempted rape.
Rape should be defined as rape.

exactly, since both men and women are raped and attempted raped.

    I don't follow...

    this is true.

In any case, as you point out, due to circumstances it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between attempted rape and rape. I suppose 'attempted rape' would mean that someone or a group of someones tried and failed to rape one or more people. Rape then would mean that the attempt was successful... I suppose the real issue is whether we are defining rape as requiring some form of penetration or not.

You must be new here. You are not supposed to agree with me. You are supposed to dismiss what I have said out of hand because I am Catholic and don't have sex.

You are also definitely not supposed to use logic and reason When you read and respond to my posts.

Come on, get with the program.
