What you don't know, you can probably look up on Wookieepedia.

Ya, I deliberately used one of the most obscure characters in SW.

Yeah Expanded Universe was the term that applied to all tie-in material pre-2014. Now tie-in stuff isn't technically EU anymore, but that's a whole other matter.

And if anyone brings up Cad Bane to you, all you need to know is one fact- he's Duros.

I heard from someone that information on Wookieepedia could be contradicted with books and other sorts. That is good advice though, so thank you.

Yeah, Wook is your friend. I have the My Wikia app on my iPad because I look stuff up a lot.

Welcome, BTW. :) We joke around a lot here as you've probably seen already.

And as far as Barriss...she probably did get executed and we may see that in a flashback, unless Palpatine was able to convince her to use her blow-****-up skills for the Empire.

I honestly don't think Barriss was a Sith. She was more along the lines of dark jedi. Se just got fed up with the war and how the modern jedi were acting, so she broke away, maybe going a little insane in the process.

Filoni pretty much confirmed that she was not executed in that IGN interview about ROTOM.

Well, yeah. That's kind of obvious. Or it should be.

Apparently it's not considering that I've seen people constantly referring to Barriss as a Sith or making fanfics of her doing Sith-y things.(Not here, but other places).

Some people don't understand that Sith and the Dark SIde are not the same thing.

Very true. Quinlan was a dark jedi in the old EU.

Oh man, this. One of my personal pet hates in SW fandom. People thinking Sith = Dark Side user and Dark Side user = Sith. UUURRRRGGGHHH!

A ridiculous amount of people seem to be under this particular delusion. Grinds my gears something awful.

Because IT IS the same thing if you only know the movies. We don't even know what makes a Sith beyond using the dark side as Anakin was immediately made into one after joining Palpatine.

Taking up the ideals of the Sith Order and becoming the apprentice of an extant Sith Lord would be what makes a Sith IMHO.

In the context of post-Bane Sith, this means pledging yourself to the Rule of Two etc.

Just from the movies: What are the ideals of the Sith order?

Maul wants revenge, Palpatine wants to dominate everyone, Vader wants order ... they all have different ideas of what's important.

As it is now, if you use a lightsaber and the darkside you are pretty much indistinguishable from "real Sith". For the common audience, the rule of two is just a throwaway line.

    Goals.

Barriss Offee's goals don't exactly align with those of Palpatine.

He also sees himself as the Sith Master and Savage as his apprentice, though. Until Sheev knocked some sense into him.

I imagine Barriss would not react well to somebody calling her a Sith.

Really, she probably comes closest to making the term "Dark Jedi" not be an oxymoron.

    Maybe.

But I still think the difference would be easier to grasp they expanded a bit on what makes the Sith unique and what it is like to be a Sith rather than just a dark Jedi. What is their history? Do they have rules? What is their approach regarding the force? Their ultimate goal? I feel like that wasn't yet explored as well as it could be.
