ST Should C-3PO have worn a black sock? That damn red arm!

We all know that the red arm was a merchandising ploy yet it remains extremely irritating for us fans who have to be bothered by it every time we watch the movie.
Surely, they should have used a less obvious merchandising ploy such as give him a black sock. If he were wearing a black sock we would not see it for most of the time as the camera mostly focuses on his upper half.
As it stands, all we get to see most of the time is his red arm.

They should have gone with the black sock.
