It would be nice, but JC doesen't have enough guru's to do that.

Well lets see, games has only 1 mod who doesnt go to other boards then the JC so his full attention is there to keep games a good place.

So yes games is better then all.

Alright boys, back to Games please.

Well lets see, games has only 1 mod who doesnt go to other boards then the JC so his full attention is there to keep games a good place.

Rubbish. You'll also find me at YJCC, Comms and NZ FanForce (and AOTC before the film. Post release I've avoided it like the plague). I make [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=7612967]quality YJCC threads[/link]. As you'd expect they sink without trace rather quickly.

I was talking about private boards like the SC and refuge boss

I like the idea of some different banners, but not too many.

The fact that the banner is the same on all but the FanForce board I visit I like. It adds coherence to the JC.

For the different FanForce sections to have banners makes sense and uniqueness to each section. I could also see that it might be nice for sections such as EU. But a different banner on each page would be too much difference and too much loading. The loading wouldn't be a problem for me since I have cable, but I know a lot of people don't.

I'd make new banners :D Photoshop is my life ;)

I'd like to see some different banner. It would be a nice change from the same one on every page.

If any banner variants had different filenames for their components (right now they're all called banner.jpg, curve.jpg etc) then the page would be slightly slow to load on your first visit. After that first visit the images would be cached and loading time would not be a factor.

Of course before we decide this is a great idea perhaps we should have a few sample banners. Make certain the people with the skills are willing to put enough time in to make a quality banner that the denizens of that particular board won't mind.

I'm all for changing the banner regularly, say every three months.

Too many banners will be too confusing and unappealing, IMHO. But it looks like msot people don't share that view :)

The caching point is good, although I set my cache so low that it doesn't cache much.

Much like icon selection, any banner that is sub-par would be rejected. If multiple banners for one forum are submitted, a simple poll in census can be utilised to select the favourite - or, like is planned in games, we'll change them on a semi regular basis (every quarter, say).

I also agree with earlier comments that not every forum needs a unique banner. There are plenty that work just fine with the default banner, even though themed banners could be made. Those that do not have a corresponding theforce.net section for instance. eg. Communications, YJCC, Census etc

I flick through many of the news / info sections of theforce.net. Each section has a different banner. I don't get confused by this. In fact, the unique page themes help remind me what section I'm in. :)

Tying forums in closer to their respective theforce.net sections seems like a nice reciprocal gesture. We have links to and from theforce.net/games and the games forum and we like to send traffic between the two pages. The consistent theme works well, IMO.

I think every forum should have it's own banner. It adds a unique feel to that particular forum.

    I wouldn't mind it.

Everytime I go the Aussie-NZ FF forums, it seems a bit more spiced-up or brighter than the rest of the JC.
