Speculation Should there be gay characters in the ST?

you have to admit it would be wrong to have gay people in star wars.and by the way luke is staright.he was attracted to leia before he found out she was his sister and in the expanded universe he marries mara jade.also episode seven better have mara jade in it and if not as lukes wife as the emporers assain.

 

sorry i watched rotj alot and i missed the part where jabba the hutt explains how his reproduction system works....must have been in the special edition...
the "WTF" was for the manner in which the reproductive system of a fictional being was explained as if it was fact.

I'm not saying all people who are against gay characters spell like this guy, but it sure seems like all the people who spell like this guy are against gay characters.

 

There does seem to be a certain level of sophistication that comes with the territory. Or does the territory come with a certain level of sophistication?

 

Why does everything have to be so confusing? Or am I confused with everything?

"Londa" refers to a hypothetical scenario proposed by CooperTFN over the question of whether an LGBT character could be integrated into Star Wars successfully: would a film like The Empire Strikes Back, he asked, still feel like the film we know and love - would it still work - if, instead of having the role of Lando Calrissian cast with a male actor, the role were cast with a female instead, with the absolute minimum of changes in dialogue? This change would of course give the character's advances on Princess Leia certain lesbian overtones, he argued, but it would still essentially be the same movie. I agreed that it could work in principle, but that the script would have to have a few changes to accomodate the change in gender; in other words, it couldn't be exactly the same character, but would have to be realistically written for a female, and to give a sense of identify to this hypothetical female character, I named her Londa Calrissian because I just wasn't sure the name Lando sounded right for a female character. I agreed with CooperTFN that such a character could indeed work, and the film would still essentially be the same film and work just as well. Thus, if one accepts the premise, a LGBT character could indeed work, depending entirely on the writing.

I think gay characters should be in the ST. I think the Jedi Order under Luke will initially exclude gays from serving as Jedi Knights. Then they will try a don't ask don't tell policy in the next movie. And finally in Episode IX, Luke's kid will come out as gay and help his father correct the error of his ways.
