At present, DotF doesn't compare to the Imperial March.

But quite honestly, we haven't allowed it to age and thus cannot determine how deeply rooted in the unconscious of the movegoing mob it will become. Nor have we seen how it will be motivically applied to the rest of the Prequels. Come to think of it, we didn't even see much thematic variation on it in TPM.

They're both great, and DOTF has a lot of potential for different re-workings, but in the end I've got to go with The Imperial March [face_devil]

    Love your sig, Rimkar.

I'm very fond of the Imperial March.
Apparently, small children like it too.

I was watching a bunch of little kids (9), and I put on one of my CD's of SW and SW-related music, and they made me skip DOTF, but made me play TIM over and over. The only song they liked better on that CD was Meco's AWESOME "Main Theme" (you know, the disco one with pieces of other SW music in it.)

As you can tell, I'm a fan of indoctrinating young children with my love of SW. :)

I think some are picking Imperial March because it is older and is a classic. DOTF is richer in my opinion

    Hi dolphin! first of all...

Then I'm not sure about this question. It's easy just to say IM because it's more af a classic.

But DOTF is very massive in a way. There is a lot of good stuff in it.

    Awww geez!
    Both are great!
IM is awesome and powerful and is a direct connotation of Vader while DotF is a more mature fuller piece.
    I'll go with DotF.
    It's rousing, grand, and epic.
    One of Williams finest compositions.
But IM is just so gooooood. . .

Duel of the Fates is a powerful piece on soundtrack, but I don't think that it ever fully developed on film.

The Imperial March, combined with the image of the massive Imperial fleet in ESB, really puts a sense of fear and excitement into the audience. You immediately know that the Empire means business.

    Mace Windy,

Imperial March is better IMO. Duel of the Fates is actually getting on my nerves now -- it's so overplayed, that I feel numb to it.

Imperial March just seems to more timeless.

Plus the Imperial March has worked its way into popular culture, while DotF has not. You can honestly say that almost as many people in the general public recognize the Imperial March as do the sound of Vader breathing. The Imperial March has played to introduce villains in The Simpsons, Austin Powers, and many other films and episodes of TV shows. It's simply the quintessential piece of evil music. What is DotF, on the other hand? No one knows. Only Star Wars fanboys are even familiar with it.

That's because Imperial March has been around for 22 years, Duel of the Fates just for 3. ;) Let's wait another 20 years and then decide.
