Oh, the Mara piece is lovely, ShrunkenJedi! I love the coloring and sort of exasperated look on her face (so very like Mara!), sort of like she's having trouble working on something and is getting frustrated! The "Death Stick" w/p is awesome, too (and I was laughing pretty hard, too!)! I love the image of Hayden you found for this--excellent expression! Great work!

:D Glad you liked it, PLJ!

FF, thanks again! The tagline came after I had put the two pics together. :)

Okay, downloaded a trial version of adobe illustrator and doodled... This isn't exactly fanart, but what the heck.

Very nice. I am not familiar with the program. Is it similar to Corel Painter?

Thanks. I can't say whether it's like painter or not, as I'm not familiar with Painter at all and don't know how it works :p

Oh, pretty! =D= I love this, ShrunkenJedi--what great coloring! It's still a really poignant moment for me, really a metaphor for what Anakin is throwing away, turning Dark: his friends, mentors, the love of his life and his precious children... I really like that tiny Leia seems to be looking at her father, and Anakin seems to be looking at her, too--I don't think I noticed this before: Leia is the only one looking at Anakin... heart-tug This is a wonderful piece!

Thanks, FF! Yes, I think it is a metaphor for what Anakin gives up, hence it's not canon in the slightest. Leia wouldn't be able to peer frightenedly at her daddy if it was canon, was it? ;) I like that, too, and I'm glad you brung that up. I think I'm developing a thing for Leia/Vader connections-- in one of my ongoing fanfics, Leia dies while leaving Hoth and Vader learns he's his daughter, which starts to bring him back to the Light when he realizes what he's sacrificed to the Dark Side. They're more alike than they'd ever admit... and knowing Leia's Vader's daughter just makes that ANH torture scene creepier.

Of course, then there's the fact that it's 'Uncle Obi-Wan' with a happy Luke in his arms and not Anakin... [face_mischief]

I think I might work this over again anyway, I'm not completely satisfied with some of the details, especially Obi-Wan's hands for instance (yikes!). But the pic was a sketch anyway, so I suppose it's to be expected.

Kinda a lot of updates recently... need to use that Illustrator while it's still in its trial period :p

Anyway, I've got a black-and-white cover for one of my fanfics... :D

I think I used to look that way when I was heading into history class, lol!! The look on his face is pure "I wish I was anyplace else!" ;) Was there ever a student that didn't have this sort of reaction to school? I don't think so!

ShrunkenJedi, I'm going to suggest a great reference to you--it's a tutorial for hands that's been a godsend for me. Take a look here--there are two pages to the tutorial, the first will lead to the second. It's very simple and straightforward, and is a wonderful "gouge" for those of us struggling with hands! And yes, I still struggle with hands, too, lol! Hope this will prove helpful!

And how are you liking Illustrator?

I found the automatic trace feature of Illustrator... very cool. Here it is with a more natural feeling to my colored family portrait...

New concept SW/LOTR wallpaper... I'd gotten to thinking about some striking similarities between Bilbo and Obi-Wan...

Oh, these last two posts are wonderful, ShrunkenJedi! I especially love the Obi Wan study--it's very Alec Guiness in its tone and likeness--sort of a pensive portrait from sometime during his hermitage on Tattooine, I would imagine. Lovely! The Anakin piece is lovely, too--I'm particularly taken with how you're rendering highlights in the hair--very "brushstrokey!" Two wonderful additions! :D

Working on a background for myself... I want to get the line work just right before I start to color it in, and I want to take my time on the coloring, so it may take a while-- but I'm thinking it'll be worth it. Here it is so far:

Oh, how great is this!? That's you, isn't it SJ, standing by the viewport under Yoda's watchful gaze? Wonderful! Too bad you just missed the January Fan Art Challenge, where one of the categories was "draw yourself as a SW character"--this would have been perfect!

So far, I think the linework looks great here, keeping in mind that the coloring will eventually fill all this out. Is that a seeker hovering back there behind you? If so, it's looking quite threatening, and you may want to duck!! Very nice detailing in this--and are you wearing a Star Trek comlink on your shoulder? A crossover here, perhaps? ;) This looks like a very fun piece, and I can't wait to see it finished!
