Yeah, this is pretty much me, except I now never really HAVE to be up early (unless I have an appointment or something, which I can get up for if I NEED to). I haven't gotten too bad (today has been the worse thus far, I got up at 10:30) but it is just making me feel like a butt. I know I'm not - I'm getting my MA in a way that works best for me under my circumstances - but I think it is still affecting my mood.

I didn't know melatonin was non-habit forming. Maybe I'll buy some if I can't get back on track.

Yeah, it's a natural hormone that your body produces to regulate your circadian rhythm (i.e. sleep/wake cycle). Melatonin pills just help out that process. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows them to be sold over the counter, which isn't allowed for habit-forming drugs. They are also classified as a supplement instead of a drug.

I take melatonin sometimes, and while I find I go to sleep, I wake up at 3am (almost exactly) and can't go back to sleep when I take it. I guess when it wears off I wake up?? [face_dunno]

The poems were cracking me up! =D=

Aaaaahhhhh!!!! I'm so excited!! We plan on getting in bed and watching it tonight!

Now that you mention that, I think the exact same thing happens to me, thus why I stopped taking it back in high school. I seem to recall ending up getting more hours of sleep if I didn't take it, then when I did.

I'll be able to stream it tomorrow morning from the website that airs it in Canada! I'll probably watch it over breakfast tomorrow.

I fell asleep around 1 and woke up before 7. Not happy. Would not try benzos again, and I think they would no longer work, anyway. So...more about melatonin, please?

Well on the sleep issue - I've tried everything - melatonin - didn't work. Tried something called Valerian Root (sp?) kept me wide awake! Have been on prescription meds - not much help. Unfortunately what would knock me out would end up being too dangerous to prescribe to me. The problem I have is my brain won't shut down. I sleep but sometimes my dreams are so vivid I wake up exhausted. My dreams usually have me running from Aliens (the Sigourney Weaver kind - Yeah it became my escape when SW took a hiatus) or returning to the job I had for 20 years and loved.

The only thing that gets me a good rest is too tire myself out with a great read or to be out and about enough that I physically tire myself. My other problem is is I don't have a set schedule and I believe I am part cat. I sleep during the day and am up all night. I joked with my dermatologist about being a vampire when she noted how pale I was and for a fleeting moment I got a strange stare back from her. I said " I am kidding " and I could see her visibly sigh in relief.

I may try that lavender oil. I have some soap scented with lavender and it does calm me.

Used Valerian in the past, can't do it anymore, because it has contradictions with my mood stabiliser, Lamictal. :(

And finally, somebody with a sleep schedule as screwed up as mine! Since we are cats, we should attack mirrors at night!

Speaking of weird dreams, I just woke up from one where Yoda was a flasher. o_O

If left to my own devices with no reason to ever get up early, I would probably fall into a "schedule" of sleeping from around 7am or 8am to around 5pm. So yeah, I could be nocturnal too if I wanted.

I'm not quite that nocturnal. As this summer proved, if left to my own devices I can fall into a rhythm of going to bed at about 2am and waking up between 10 and 11.

But can I get a gold star for adulting? I actually got up today when my alarm clock went of at 8:30 (I know that isn't exactly early rising, but I think it is half decent). I had to run out to get milk, so I decided since I was out anyways and the sun was out, to go up to the university library to do some work and catch some natural sunlight. This is where I am now and I finished up that short unit. I'm kinda working on my next unit, but my energy is fading.

You owe me a keyboard again. I spluttered coffee all over the previous one because of you, and now wine on this one. *hiccup*

Sleep. Ugh. That's a painful subject. I am so incredibly envious of those who can sleep late in the morning. No matter what time I go to bed, I wake up at 7 am latest and usually earlier (like 5:30), even if it's the weekend or a holiday or if I'm working afternoons. I like the early morning couple of hours because I get a lot done before everyone else is up, but I wish I could enjoy a lie in every once in a while.

My natural inclination is also to go to bed around 2 or 3 in the morning and get up around 10. Every time my alarm clock goes off at 5:30am for work, I HATE it. HATE IT! Though it's better than when I lived in Boston and had to get up a little bit before 5am, so there is that.

Today has been a crappy start, I woke up with a migraine and then I got a call that I didn't get the job. :( Two days ago they told me I was to the next round, but then they interviewed someone else who blew them away and knew the girl who got promoted and we'd be replacing. I guess it wasn't meant to be. But I really did want it.
(Also, I know I can be so cavalier about it because I already have a job. If I didn't, I'd be a lot more upset.)

I WISH I could get up at 7am naturally. My step-father is like that, meanwhile the rest of the family is all nocturnal, and he drives us all insane. Every once and awhile I'll wake up at like 5:30 on my own and be SUPER PRODUCTIVE, and then go back to sleep :p Back in high school I had to be up at about 6am every day and I have no idea how I did it (actually, I do... I napped in English and Math class :p ).

Sorry to hear about the migraine and the job, Mav. Both just suck :(

I have the once-in-a-while 5:30 thing, too and I love it.

mavjade - that absolutely sucks and I'm sorry. :( Hope something even better pops up.

Today should crawl in a hole and die. Die, die, November 22nd 2017, DIE!

Ack, I didn't get the job. I don't know who did, but I discovered one of the applicants was a person with two years seniority. I thought she had a full time job, but I guess she was simply on-call like I am. I am fairly sure she got the job. No worries. The only real benefit of getting a full time job is you are guaranteed hours and you have health benefits. I don't need the benefits (I am insured by husband) and I can usually get 40 hours a week by taking shifts others want to give away.

mavjade - sorry to hear that.

    Jedi_Lover - same for you.

An email from a frightened pensioner wound its way to me at work, scared by a newspaper article.

I found the article online, read it twice; spent most of the day (and fairly concerned that I exceeded my authority, but had no idea where else to send the enquiry) composing a reassuring response, but what I really wanted to finish with was:

...and please accept our apologies that we do not have standard responses to any old **** that a journalist or reporter chooses to come up with.

Hi, EP! *waves* I've had a busy couple of months, between working, going back to school (majoring in Medical Records!), and helping my folks take care of my grandma, things have been hectic. I'm trying to get back into the rhthym of doing other things. :)

I saw you've had some troubles. :( I hope you're getting better (seems like it...is that true?). I hope you are continuing to improve.

I turn nocturnal at the drop of a hat.

And since staying up to watch a tv show at 2am, sometime in the last century, I generally only sleep for four hours at a time.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating, and happy Thursday to everyone [face_party] (Thursdays should always be celebrated. They're the day before Friday, and on Fridays you already have one foot in the weekend.)

That's too bad for the jobs you applied for mavjade and Jedi_Lover. But then prospective jobs are like prospective pets; when you don't get the one you thought you'd get, it means that the right one is still out there waiting for you [face_good_luck]

Happy Thanksgiving for all the Americans who are celebrating!

So my interesting day thus far... I got a call from my brother (and, yeah, it was Josh for those that know that whole joke), he needed my crutches, because he just about chopped off his leg with a chainsaw at work. He's fine... mostly. He just has a pretty deep cut that cut a tendon, so he can't walk. Thankfully his sister (me) is a cripple and has crutches I sometimes use (I don't use them often anymore since they take a lot of upper body strength). So I had to deliver them to him, and I also brought him cupcakes BECAUSE I'M A NICE SISTER.

I also called him Jimmy and Walt Jr. so I guess I'm not that nice.

I will not be around from Friday until Thursday. DarthUncle will be at my side, helping me to cope and stay strong for the rest of my family.

@mavjade & @Jedi_Lover I hope that there will be better times for you soon.

    Same for Ewok Poet.

I was very ill today and the doctor next door gave me sick leave from work. In the afternoon DarthUncle took me with him to some specialist. That alternative practitioner came with the references of the daughter-in-law of Luke´s German voice actor. She had suggested the healer to my husband some months ago when he had severe knee troubles.

By joining in today´s treatment I also felt a bit better, too. I really was allowed to cup the back of my own husband several times. (But there were no leeches involved, just the glass cups and an air pump.)

So, November 23rd should die too, then! Let's hope that the next day is better.

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all 'muricans here. :D Hope you had a blast!

Jedi_Lover, that sucks, incredibly. But one thing that I don't get here (again) is...don't the former soldiers get these incredible benefits for every single thing ever, or is it just what us foreigners are lead to falsely believe?

AzureAngel2, thanks. Same to you. I reckon that the major shock didn't hit you yet, it was like that with me and I hope you have enough support to get by. <3

Winama Shiraya, wow, you're on a roll, at least academically! What's up with grandma? Is she OK?

I'll PM you about what happened - hard to grasp it from my sporadic posts at the social, I think. And still waiting for your first fic. <3

    So...

Yesterday, 23rd, I had a random case of WHAT.EVEN. I realised that it was my friend's birthday and that she's been all hot-and-cold with me for the past month and a half or so. It freaked me out beyond belief, since people who do that kind of stuff to me are usually those I do not consider my friends anymore, and then I suddenly started comparing myself to one of those...which led to an inevitable MAN, I SUCK SO MUCH spell, whining to three different people, on one of whom I territorially pissed, like a true jealous borderline. Almost like: "No, you are mine, I saw you first!"

Then I went and slept for sixteen hours, walked around with my dog at night, ordered a pizza with hot peppers and goat knows that hot peppers are the second worst thing after the current incarnation of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now I'm sitting here and I'm afraid of contacting the person who ended up being my, err, territory. And I need to calm down a bit, because I need to go to my pdoc, for the checkup I missed last week when the dog and mom were ill, and if she sees me even remotely worried, she could attempt something odd again.

But yeah, it all happened because of a close friend who didn't do anything other than not doing anything. And I vaguely remember that all my birthdays were endless spirals of regret at that friend's age, but for some reason, I still fear that it's about me. :(

Could use a reality check from the more brutal ones among you - just be...gently brutal, or something.
