@Ewok Poet, I heard of a lady who went back for her bachelor's degree in her 80s! Lots of schools here in the US offer admission to "non-traditional" (read: older) students. It is never too late, and someday, you may be in more favorable circumstances where you can pursue this. As to feeling like an impostor, I don't think it's necessarily a syndrome...I feel that everyone, at some point in their life, question themselves and if they are truly not equal to the position they are in or the people they are with. Don't beat yourself up. Be yourself, do what you feel is right for you, and if people look down their noses, kark 'em and find better friends. :)

So I finally got my car mirror fixed today! And it actually cost me less than they initially quoted me, which was nice because those 2 hours last month when EVERYTHING WENT WRONG, cost me... a lot. Including my sanity.

But I had a minor panic attack when I pulled into the auto-body shop. I hate driving in the industrial area and the shop is right off of the highway but their "parking lot" is rather small so you basically have to turn your car 180 degrees in a very tight space. Long story short, it was icy and I almost didn't stop in time. Actually I didn't stop in time, but by some grace of God, I had turned JUST right and was like 5 cms from hitting a truck [face_blush]. I was like 100% sure I was going to hit it. And of course my brother was right behind me (so I didn't have to stay there) and he was like "I was positive you were going to hit that." I have this unique ability to almost get into accidents (other than my incident in my own garage), and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

But I'm home now and I finished my report yesterday so I think I'm just going to avoid any further accidents. I might write some fanfic and order dinner and have it delivered.

I hope everybody is well, including @Chyntuck by now.

Originally, I planned to go to Yoga straight after work, but at short notice I had to take the late shift, due to so many colleagues being sick, and missed the course. It was snowing heavily when I came home & I noticed that I had not enough energy left to even go to the sauna with my husband.

Last night I could not go. I fell ill after eating a fish sandwich at the market place on Wednesday evening. (Somehow my stomach never really recovered after the novo virus struck me down in February.)

After checking the study homework of an old boarding-school friend of mine, a heavy criminal subject really, I only managed to give a call to a grammar school pal of mine. Since the return from Scandinavia, where she spent more than 10 years of her life, she is doing with her battery research for a prominent German auto-mobile company.

And then, against all odds, I went online. If I feel better tomorrow, my husband will take me to the fitness centre. We also intend to go there on Sunday, because I was lacking too much energy during the week.

The war with our landlady is just the top of the iceberg.

Therefore I agree fully what @Mistress_Renata said to you, @Ewok Poet: "Don't beat yourself up. Be yourself, do what you feel is right for you, and if people look down their noses, kark 'em and find better friends."

These days some my oldest RL friends help me immensely. Even though I do not reveal too much of my sorrow and pain to them, being there for them helps me. This way I can fight my own battles much better.

I might doubt myself a lot, but some of them know me longer than 20 years and strangely never doubt me. That is my encouragement. (Even though 50% of them have no interest in Star Wars at all. Some are even not on-line people at all.)

Just be yourself! And those who cannot live with that are not worth your time or effort.

PS: @Briannakin, writing fanfic is always a good idea. Without it, I would not survive the extreme stress level and bantha poodoo that constantly comes my way. I hope you will feel better soon.

You're all wonderful. <3 I'll respond to these things when I process them.

Until then, yesterday got busy, too...after three me-days when I, err, didn't managed to do much. Two different friends invited me for a hot drink and, while my trainers got soaking wet, it was great. First I went to the friend I met on Satuday, to our usual cafe, Cliché.

The one I met on Monday, Judi and I went to this Caffé Liberté in my street, a very strange, but pleasant place. Strange, how? There are life-sized wall paintings of Maradona, Fidel, Kusturica, Stalin (!), Manu Chao, Mihalkov, Chavez, Che and a couple of others. I never understood the idea, but yeah, the owner's political affiliations are obvious. [face_laugh] They have great, socialist tea and the place is cheaper than any other I know, by far.

I also lurked around Terranova and Tally Weijl stores. Saw this:
    https://www.terranovastyle.com/oc_en/floral-crop-t-shirt-22-sab0032075001s370/

Tonight, going to freeload at the concert of this interesting band, Pero Defformero. It's hard to explain them, much as it's hard to explain a bunch of projects from the same group of people...but basically, they fuse heavy metal instrumentals with corny, turbo-folk vocals and it's dead funny. A friend or two might be coming along as wel

But before that, the handyman who's supposed to finally fix the landline should be here in about an hour and half. AND I HAVE TO VACUUM BEFORE THAT. And take a shower. LOL. Will do it all in the last minute...pretty sure I have strep throat, which I last had when I was five or six, and it's annoying.

fwiw, @Ewok Poet , I’m on the downward side of my 50s and I’m still going to school to get another certification. Lifetime learning, baby. Don’t ever think you’re too old. You’re in your mid 30s. You’re still very young to me.

The social aspect of this is interesting. Everybody notices the lowest of the priorities first.

Anyway...this is stupid, but I have decided not to go to the concert. I don't feel like ungluing my eyes from the screen. Enjoying fic waaay too much right now. I never commented on more than eight stories at once, seems like today it will be twice as many...or more. [face_hypnotized][face_hypnotized][face_hypnotized]

And LOL, I managed to bury one of my own after having updated it for the first time in a year. [face_rofl]

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Had some green Guinness at my local watering hole and now am about to grill some steaks with my cousin.

GREEN GUINNESS? Oh, that is so wrong... Plain, unadulterated Guinness is the perfect St. Pat's drink! (since my Nana is no longer around to make her deadly Irish coffee... she had a heavy touch with the Jameson's...)

Ugh. I sleep from midnight to 11 (Renata, this is still good, right? I slept only five hours the night before...) and I wake up to a mass fight on the other forum, the other admin MIA and the poor mod trying to get everybody to calm the kriff down. Two grown-up men, close to 40 mercilessly attack a 23-year-old who is suicidal and whose moods change all the time, day by day. And that girl who changed from a sweet kiddo to the resident ladette overnight is with them, because of course she is. Those siding with the suicidal boy attack back. I try to put sense into everybody, twice, this weird mansplainer comes along to tell *me* not to take this seriously, because the internet is not real.

Eventually, I had to move 106 posts, make a thread for them and then lock it. After some folks have seen a memento of their own stupidity, it's going to be hidden.

I'm against anxyolitics, but right now, I'd pass them around to this gang, really.

And sure, I'm not a saint. By now, it's probably obvious that I had an episode of extreme self-doubt on Thursday evening, but if somebody had said that I was only getting attention or something, I would have been angry. These things are real. The demons are real and that boy has more demons than most of us, so...respect and empathy to the win!

Handsome handyman just rang. brb. :p

My MIL had roast and boiled cabbage yesterday for St Paddy's Day since FIL refuses to let her boil cabbage in the house.

I have no opinion on green beer since I don't drink.

Who wore green yesterday? I did; on my socks.

We had corned beef and cabbage and Guinness, but it wasn't green. How do you make Guinness green anyway? I'd think it was too dark.

    Rant and long story alert:
I worked my butt off yesterday in my ICU, but managed to get a bunch of people extubated (took out their breathing tubes) and since it's a weekend, they only do emergency cardiac surgeries meaning today would, in theory, be a nice day. Well, come this morning the coordinator who says where we work that day put me in a place I'd never been and has a system I've never used. I tell her this and she says, well you can ask for help. I say if I'm going to be on orientation, I want to be on orientation and actually get one, if not I'd like to go back to where I was yesterday (as is what is always supposed to happen for continuity of care). She refuses to let me. She does allow me to switch with someone else but says to me "You have to do what your conscience tell you." Um... what?! I guess my conscience tells me not to take something where I've never even seen the system.

So I took the trade, ended up being just a regular person (so not at all on orientation) and ran my butt off. Of course, they had a lovely day in the unit I should have been in. [face_plain] I was so ticked most of the day.

Spring break is over. Bedtime approaches. In 12 hours I will be searching for a parking spot at school. Most of my homework is done, but my sociology surveys about gun violence and mass shootings due Tuesday are not even half complete. I have collected just 8 responses out of the 20 I'm supposed to have. Part of the problem is that being autistic limits how and how much I socialize, so I have very few social connections in the local area. (I have plenty of online friends from around the world, such as on here, but the professor wants local responses because one of the questions deals specifically with local laws.)

The two biggest, and really the only two, local connections that I have (the store where I play Pokémon TCG and a forum centered on a local amusement park) were both shut down for me last week. The store owner wouldn't let me ask people to fill out the survey in or around his store because "it might make people uncomfortable", and the forum moderators told me I couldn't post it because the subject was too political in nature and the forum rules prohibit anything even remotely political. Outside of those two arenas, I literally never socialize with locals, ever, so I was left with no access to any means of collecting a substantial quantity of surveys. The few I did get are mostly family and a couple of my other professors.

So I really don't understand how I'm supposed to complete this assignment with the limitations of my autism. The assignment by its very nature cannot be completed without multiple social connections, friends, etc. But I don't have any of that. I have many acquaintances and online "friends", but I don't have (nor do I desire) actual friends, as in people whom I would just hang out and do random stuff with. I vastly prefer to fly solo.

I'm going to talk with my TRIO* adviser tomorrow morning regarding this and see what he says, though I may end up contacting the Office of Accessibility that deals with curriculum modifications to accommodate disabilities.

*TRIO is a U.S. federal program to provide extra support to disadvantaged students, including low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. I fit all three of those criteria.

Thats annoying Mav. You absolutely did the right thing by speaking up and telling them that you didn't know how to do something. I would have been ticked off too had I got that reply.

JC - I worked extensively with my disability office during my undergrad and they were always great and my profs were always understanding when I went through the disability office - except for one philosophy prof, but I quickly realized his class was going to be a problem and dropped the class. A big chuck of the grade was a similar assignment which I was unable to do (it was a comparative religions class so we had to go to different services and interview people and between wheelchair accessibility and speech issues, it just wasn't happening). He was horrible at responding to me regarding an alternative assignment so I was able to drop the class without any academic or financial penalties. I could get accommodations now for my MA as well, but they just aren't needed given the distance learning format.

I was pretty busy all weekend but I feel like I got little done. I hung out with my brother yesterday and today I cleaned and made a pot of soup (this one went a lot better than the last one :p ).

@Mistress_Renata, they just put green food coloring in it. I could barely tell they'd colored it just due to the green coloration near the surface. My local watering hole colored every single beer at the place green.

This stuff is surreal to me. Good surreal, not bad surreal.

(Can I go "my country is lame" without that devastating and unpleasant "it's not my fault you live in your country" type of an answer? Not just now, but in general? Because I've been hearing that since I started using the internet twenty years ago, it made me sick numerous times and I sure as heck won't say that to, I dunno, somebody who escaped from Somalia. I spoke to a close friend on Saturday morning - an American, for that matter - and she agreed that I have the right to be ticked off when that rhetoric comes up out of nowhere, as if people had to wash their hands out of everything...)

Socialisation for people with autism. Benefits for people with physical disabilities. Utopia. Awesome. Wish it was a thing everywhere.

I won't even dare talk about the money issues, because that's the one I seem to be unable to explain and the one that gets ignored. When you say that the minimum salary in your country is about 190 bucks and the average about 400, and that it's monthly, not weekly, people think you're an unicorn or something.

At this point, I can't even believe that I used to make $3500 per month, for quite a long time.

I just want a better life for my eventual children and, well, everybody. :( Like, don't force me to move to Greece or Italy (the mentalities I could do with) and start anew.

We should not be Europe's cheap work force and the country of factories where people are abused and mistreated, even forced to wear diapers. We should not be selling everything we have to random tycoons from EU, Russia and UAE. We don't need fancy, guarded neighbours and further segregation. This was never a class-based society and it shouldn't be.

On top of that, yesterday sucked *BEEP CENSORED*

Maybe they use some sort of food coloring to make it green.

Funny story: when Hubby was little his teacher made green eggs and ham for the class by using green food coloring to make the eggs and ham green. They used so much green food coloring that he peed green for three days.

If you want 'green eggs and ham' make a pea soup. My mom calls pea soup that because when my brother Harley was younger he refused to eat pea soup and since he liked Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham our mom started calling pea soup to remind him to try new food before saying he didn't like it.

Or just an herbal omelet with fresh parsley...parsley juice will color anything green! I don't think Guinness needs to be green...it's Irish in and of itself. And it tastes best in Limerick, with an actual Irish pub around it! ;)[face_good_luck]
My mother did that with liver. Told us it was kangaroo meat. I was in Jr. High before I found out the truth... [face_bleh]

Can't beer, allergic to maltose. O_O

Right now can't swallow either. The throat ache has been persistent for five days now, but this evening is the first time that I have trouble eating. I guess I will have to see my GP after all. She did say that I should come again if it gets worse some weeks ago. Well, it got worse.

I guess I can fulfill one of my biggest fantasies and live on ripe bananas.
