SJFF has seemed awfully quiet - mention of Unity and Wondercon barely tipped the meter on these boards.

The San Jose area has two big events coming up on Memorial Day Weekend:

BAYCON - at the San Jose Doubletree. This is a general science-fiction convention. Admission for the full convention is now $75.00 (good Friday-Monday). Single-day at the door passes vary in price ($25 for Friday, $40 for Sat/Sun, $20 for Monday when everything's winding up).

FANIMECON - at the San Jose Convention Center. Anime related, but still fun.

Then, for the gamers, there's KUBLACON up in Burlingame (near the SF International Airport). See http://www.kublacon.com for more information.

Don't wait for SFFF or SVRF to plan events, especially in your own backyard. Not everything has to be a grand convocation - get together with each other for a movie, or a one-day trip to a convention (doing an entire convention is tough for students and other folks on a budget).

For BayCon you can also purchase a One-Night-Only Membership for $20. I and others in the South Bay ;) were planning on being there the 29th (with a room, maybe costumes, a little decorations, and of course alcohol.)

Wasn't Fanime held in June last year? Oh well, no time to go.

No, Fanime was held the weekend before Baycon. For some reason this year, they're both on the same weekend.

I'm on staff for Fanime and we've done really well in the last couple of years. We are moving from the Santa Clara convention Center to San Jose.

We took Memorial Day weekend for various reason one of which is that it is a 4 day con. Considering that Baycon and anime seemeed to have parted ways, there does not seem to be a conflict. As far as anime conventions go, our real competition is the Pacific Media Expo in Southern California.
