The ANH screenplay refers to the temple as the "Massassi Outpost" and calls it ancient. The EU says that "Massassi" is the warrior caste of the Red Sith and that they built the temple. Thoughts?
The main purpose of the EU is to explain things that were shown in the movies and create (back)stories about those things. I think it is wonderful how the backstory of the Massassi temples was developped. Although it is a bit odd why Luke creates a Jedi Training centre on Yavin or why the Rebels chose to build a base on Yavin. Yavin was Kun's headquarter, its location is probably known by all historians. Well, Lucas probably hadn't that in mind... But still it is a good backstory (although it raises some questions).
The Jedi deleted as much as possible from the general histories, precisely because they didn't want too much about the Sith to be known to the public.
Yeah, but they didn't know there was a resident Sith Lord. I mean, it was unprecedented at the time to have any force ghost last more than, what, 10 years?
Exactly. Though I recall that the Rebels arrival actually woke Kun, but he didn't have chance to snare Luke... Kun is very active in 1 ABY, in Galaxies, though... probably too active, but ho hum.
If the Jedi deleted all records about Yavin, then why did Hoggon show it to Qel-Droma in Redemption? By the way, I vaguely remember reading the Jedi weren't the only ones to blockade Yavin. The Navy did so too.
Because Redemption is right afterward- the process of deleting the records wouldn't have taken off till later.
Actually, it all doesn't make sense. If the Jedi waited so long to delete Yavin's records, the half Galaxy would have heard what happened on Yavin by then. I don't think the Jedi would be able to stop the information from becoming public. If you were a librarian and a Jedi asked you to delete some files, would you really do so?
So, you compare the Jedi Order to the Church... Hmmm, interesting... Maybe we should create a thread about this. Wouldn't it be an interesting topic?
