    True. No matter how you put it though-- Padawan or soon-to-be Jedi Knight -- Obi-Wan defeated a Sith who had killed a Jedi Master who was powerful enough to be on the Council. That is rather impressive, and as you said, it was necessary to establish Obi-Wan's power/skill as a Jedi.

    For me that whole scene was nothing more than a moment in which Obi-Wan's ego got the best of him. And he paid the price for it.
