    1. Can a Sith sword, stop/deflect blaster bolts?
    2. How long can a Sith sword stand up in a duel against a lightsaber.
    3. Palpatine's Empire was notoriously specist. How is this reconciled with the historical existence of non-human Sith, and the fact that the Sith proper are a species who interbred with the dark jedi (and taught them much in the ways of the dark side). Is Palpatine using this hatred as a source of his own power, or is it something he personally holds? If so, how does he reconcile this with the aforementioned history of the Sith?
    4. Is there any retconned reason that Vader's armor wasn't made of Corteosis weave and/or Mandalorion Iron? Granted, he wasn't fighting that many Jedi, but Mandalorion Iron is supposedly all-but-impervious to blaster fire in any case.

Yes. A Sith sword is altered by Sith Alchemy which makes it stronger, sharper and resiliant to blaster bolts and lightsabers. When added with the power of the Force, which the Sith often did in battle, it becomes more keen and more resiliant.

    2. How long can a Sith sword stand up in a duel against a lightsaber.

    See answer to Q#1.

    3. Palpatine's Empire was notoriously specist. The hatred for aliens is a quality that has been with Humans long before the Galactic Empire or Palpatine came onto the galactic stage. It existed during the Old Republic times and still existed in the New Republic and even more so in the Galactic Alliance. The New Order Party merely used it to their advantage and Palpatine saw it as a tool to gain power.

Palpatine is a Sith first and foremost and an Imperial second. He's used aliens and women in his service many times. Darth Maul, Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade are prime examples.

    4. Is there any retconned reason that Vader's armor wasn't made of Corteosis weave and/or Mandalorion Iron? Granted, he wasn't fighting that many Jedi, but Mandalorion Iron is supposedly all-but-impervious to blaster fire in any case.

Vader's armor is impervious to blaster fire. From what I have seen both in the movies, comics and books, his armor (the shoulders, shins and pelvic is the real armor) have never been hit and if they have, never been damaged. Everything else is a padded armor that is only suppose to protect you from shrapnel and fire.

As for corteosis weave and Mandalorian iron, the former is a very rare ore and difficult to refine let alone weave into a set of armor. Plus Palpatine would not allow his apprentice or Hands have any kind of advantage over him. As for Mandalorian iron, hasnt the secret to mine and shape that ore been lost to all but Mandalorians?

As to #4, Vader's armor was treated with Sith Alchemy, which makes it durable against a great deal of things, though I think it was mainly the metal parts that were treated, and that may have been over time (as he got sliced and diced by a few Jedi in Purge, showing that his armor was vulnerable to sabers).

And the armour does have some resistance to saber strikes: in ESB, just before Vader takes Luke's hand off, Luke does score a 'glancing' hit to Vader's shoulder, which seems to cause pain, but doesn't take Vader's shoulder off.

Likewise, a full Cortosis weave or Madalorian Iron Alloy would wiegh far more that what Vaders armor already did and limit his mobility.

Vader took a laser bolt to the side in Splinter of the Minds Eye when Leia shot him with an E-11, and there was smoke and partial penetration damage, though Vader carried on regardless.

Er, yeah ... but given the huge continuity problems that 'Splinter' creates, I was under the impression the 'EU community' always ignored the novel? (I mean, it happens between ANH and ESB; Luke fights Vader and manages to cut Vader's arm clean off; Luke then picks up the Kaiburr Crystal and we never see it again!)

...Although is there an EU novel that attempts to reconcile the problem?

It's canon, it's in the New Essential Chronology, among other books. They explain that Obi-Wan's spirit possessed Luke and boosted his abilities, plus the Crystal has some serious focusing power for Force Users. Luke later used a shard of the crystal in a lightsaber, while Lumiya managed to get ahold of another one and used it in her lightwhip.

Look, it's in the databank too

#4: Although he had access to it, he preferred to rely on his saber skills to defend himself. Plus, I imagine it would weigh him down.
