Actually, you do want to find the shortest route possible. The trick is finding an actor or actress that does not have a short route, meaning someone who cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon in 1, 2 or 3 steps.

This is very, very difficult to do. For instance, the example of Katharine Hepburn used above could actually be done this way:

Katharine Hepburn was in Love Affair with Tom Signorelli
Tom Signorelli was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon

So Ms. Hepburn has a Bacon number of 2.

 

but Talon I thought you were the one that suggested trying to do it the long way... I could be mistaken... ok peace out

What I am suggesting is that you find actors and actresses who end up having numbers of more than 2 or 3. So, yes, the long way, but out of the minimum number of movies.
