ST Snoke's Backstory - Theories and Speculation

I'm reading the Life Debt book right now, and while Rax seems like a possibility, I'd rather him honestly just be this super ancient shadowy guy who didn't feel like he had to make a move until after the Empire collapsed. I saw some theories about him being a force parasite, or someone transferring essences. That's actually fine, too. I just don't want it to be "I'M ANOTHER POLITICAL DUDE WHO GOT KINDA MESSED UP AND NOW I'M A SITH-ISH LORD"

 

I'm prepared to believe Snoke may not even a force master and that the hologram is just like Oz. Highly unlikely, I know. But wouldn't that be the reason why he doesn't share Ren's eagerness to actually apprehend Luke.

So, that's it. He's playing a video game, that's why he's sitting down. It's an interactive video game, with Kylo and Hux programmed with their lines.

R2 has been sleeping all these years. In a seemingly shutdown low power state.
We know he has hologram tech built into him, and is expert at accessing communications and computers.
And he so conveniently wakes up when BB8 turns up with the missing part of the map to Luke, and makes sure the information is given to him...

 

R2 woke up when Luke tells him. He found Rey most likely at the same time I believe. hard to tell the timing in the film. R2 was supposed to be dormant while Luke was away and the missing piece wasnt found yet.Thats the whole idea, not a coincidence.
