I suggest then you take part in any life extension breakthroughs as that is apparently going to take centuries.

And the first data is apparently good

The treatment was originally intended to demonstrate the safety of the latest generation of the therapies. But if early data is accurate, it is already the world’s first successful example of telomere lengthening via gene therapy in a human individual. Gene therapy has been used to lengthen telomeres before in cultured cells and in mice, but never in a human patient.

In March 2016, the same tests were taken again by SpectraCell revealed that her telomeres had lengthened by approximately 20 years, from 6.71kb to 7.33kb. This implies that Parrish’s white blood cells (leukocytes) have become biologically younger. These findings were independently verified by the Brussels-based non-profit HEALES (HEalthy Life Extension Company), and the Biogerontology Research Foundation, a UK-based charity committed to combating age-related diseases.

Let's just say, long enough so I don't grow so old and senile I'll actually enjoy watching Lawrence Welk in the old folk's home rec room TV on Saturday nights.

(I saw this when my grandfather stayed at a local home before he died. I thought it was so sad, fooling old people into thinking it was still 1968.)

A quick lecture by Bill Andrews, primarily talking about 99% of everything claiming life extension right now is false. And Sierra Sciences is teaming up with BioViva.

I took one of those quizzes on the bookface and it says I'm going to live to be 95.

I've got half a century to train for the London Marathon.

Brin and Ben Bova have written great stuff about the challenges and potential psychological challenges of living for a really long time(centuries, etc).

Me, I want to live to be 125.

Until the exact date of my retirement, so that I can die miserable in the knowledge that all that working and saving was for nothing.

This is an interesting statement. There are a large number of people at the forefront of life extension research. All off them, including the ones with the big bucks like Google/Calico flat out say they won;t let this be a rich person's club. That's not to say they could be wrong, but they have the bucks and influence at least to market and provide to the masses. Despite that, when one of these larger headlines comes about and gets posted to whatever facebook page there is always someone who cries, 'Phhht only the rich will get this.'. Can't blame them for their cynicism.

until my brain stop functioning. that is to say as long as I have my mental facilities and am capable of enjoying life. I saw what dementia did to my grandmother. My son knows I do not want to live that way. nor do I want to live dependent on machines to keep me alive when I have no brain activity. But beyond that, I have no specific number in mind, as to me that is irrelevant. Quality of life is more important to me than quantity.

on one hand I would love to live well into my hundreds, on the other hand if that were the case everybody I ever cared about or loved would most likely be dead and that to me is super depressing.
