So I went and saw Beauty and the Beast in 3D...

And now whenever I see French President Sarkozy, I swear I'm going to imagine him lighting his head on fire and breaking into a song.

It's funny, cuz whenever I see Human!Beast, I think of his son.

I recall pretty well that the first time this thing came out, we voted down seeing it in favor of Hook (I believe that was the film anyway). Neither really left much of a lasting impression on me.

 

What?!?

Beauty and the Beast has got to be one of the best Disney animated films of all time, definitely in the top 10 if not the very best.

 

Only animated movie as far as I know to actually be nominated in the "Best Picture" category.

 

I could be wrong, but wasn't that category actually made that year FOR Beauty and the Beast?

Was it as good in 3D as Lion King was, Lee?

 

I didn't see Lion King, so I really can't compare it. Largely, the 3D works well, but there are a few instances where it shines: the tour of the castle (looooong hallways), the ballroom dance (i think thats where they put the most effort into the 3D conversion), and the final battle (Gaston goes bye bye in an epic scale).

 

The Best Animated Film category was created because Beauty and the Beast the year before had taken up one of the Best Picture slots, and some Academy people didn't like that.


Toy Story 3, and I believe Up, have both also been nominated for Best Picture AND Best Animated Picture (though only after the Academy went back to the 10 Best Picture pool.

 

I'm totally going to see that, if only cuz of the ballroom scene

 

I saw it in IMAX years ago and that was good, I'm not sure 3D can add anything new to it but seeing it with digital picture is worth it I think.

 

I'd love to see it in 3D, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't been released here in the UK.
If it has, then my nearest theater isn't showing it


The main reason I want to see it is so I can see the Tangled short in front.

 

After seeing the Lion King in 3D, I have faith that this 3D conversion will be at least bearable.
