lol I just pictured Usher as Lando, dancing and singing to Leia on cloud city.

Did a google image search for "usher star wars" to see what funny images would come up, and this was the first result:

    wtf?

The best choice would be to go with unknowns like the original, but if I had to pick:

Luke: Andrew Garfield ( the Amazing Spiderman)

    Han: Ryan Reynolds

Leia: Anna Kendrick ( up in the air)

    Ben: Ian McKellen

    Tarkin: Ian McShane

And to just throw this in, for episodes 5 and 6
Chad Coleman ( the Wire, the Walking Dead) as Lando !

I would use the exact same cast as the original, but just as voice actors. Maybe even just taking their lines straight from the older movies.

Then, I would make it animated, in the same style as Beowulf

Beowulf wasn't purely animated. It was mo-capped with the actors performing everything, like Avatar. So you would need to have people performing, even if it was all going to be CGI animated over them.

I don't mind the idea of an animated Star Wars remake, personally. It gives you more room to play with the story and change things around, and there's a lot of great voice actors who could do the roles better than their original performers could. Say, if Steven Blum did Han Solo, it might be the first time since I was in Pre-K that I actually gave a damn about Han Solo.

I, also, haven't had any interest in the rogue/smuggler aspect of SW since roughly 1983.

Ken Wtanabe could play anybody. He should be Aunt Beru. The Stormtrooper invasion of the moisture farm will end quite differently this time...

I actually want to see Jackie Chan as Ben, or maybe Chow Yun-fat

Ken Watanabe is great, that's true.

But if I were in charge of casting a remake, it would go something like this:

"Thanks for coming out everybody, but you can go now. There's been a misunderstanding, because we're not going to remake any of the SW films. Thanks!".

    :p

Instead of a remake, I'd like to see what happens in between ep4 and ep5

In answering this question, I'm going to operate under the premise that I'm not 'remaking' the OT and ANH, I'm making them for the first time, with the PT having 'set the bar'.

Voice of Darth Vader - James Earl-Jones
Grand Moff Tarkin - Wayne Pygram
    Chewbacca - Peter Mayhew
Owen Lars - Joel Edgerton (with aging makeup applied)
Beru Whitesun Lars - Bonnie Piesse (with aging makeup applied)

    The Empire Strikes Back

Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi - Ewan McGregor (with aging makeup/effects applied)
    C-3PO - Anthony Daniels
    Darth Vader - Hayden Christensen
Voice of Darth Vader - James Earl-Jones
    Chewbacca - Peter Mayhew
    Yoda - Frank Oz
    Lando Calrissian - Idris Elba
    Emperor Palpatine - Ian McDiarmid
    Boba Fett - Temuera Morrison

    Return of the Jedi
    Luke Skywalker- Jamie Campbell Bower
    Leia Organa- Jennifer Lawrence
    Han Solo - Nathan Fillion
Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi - Ewan McGregor (with aging makeup/effects applied)
    C-3PO - Anthony Daniels

What do you have against J'Law? She's a fantastic actress, and fits into the same general 'fame profile' as Natalie Portman. She and JCB also look similar enough to each other to pass as brother and sister.

I don't think she's particularly good. She has a mild case of the Kristen Stewart blank stare. And her face really annoys me. Its just personal opinion. (also, EVERYONE thinks she like the best actress ever just because of her Oscar performance)
If you replaced her with someone like Anna Kendrick, it would be perfect.

An interesting topic. Of course, I'm assuming we are using none of the original cast here - a total reboot.

Star Wars: A New Hope - Starring:

    Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Luke Skywalker
Robert Downey, Jr. as Han Solo
    Anthony Hopkins as Obi-Wan Kenobi
    Ginnifer Goodwin as Leia Organa
Avery Brooks as the voice of Darth Vader
    Stephen Dillane as Wilhuff Tarkin
James Arnold Taylor as the voice of C3PO
The staff of Weta Workshop as R2-D2
Some big guy in a furry suit as Chewbacca
    Jason Isaacs as Owen Lars
    Ann Dowd as Beru Lars
    Stephen Amell as Wedge Antilles

The Empire Strikes Back - Starring all of the above, plus:

    Dwayne Johnson as Lando Calrissian
Tom Kane as the voice of Yoda
    Lee Byung-hun as Boba Fett
    Robert Carlyle as Palpatine
    John Barrowman as Firmus Piett

Return of the Jedi: Starring all of the above, plus:

    Michelle Rodriguez as Oola
    Michelle Fairley as Mon Mothma
David Morrissey as unmasked Anakin/Anakin's ghost
Maurice LaMarche as the voice of Admiral Ackbar

@Jaren_Lee-Saber: Everyone thinks J-Law is an excellent actor because she IS.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but I have to wonder why you'd doubt J-Law's acting abilities, especially since, as you said, she's an Oscar winner. Oscars aren't just handed out like candy. The fact that J-Law has an Oscar signifies that she's a superb actor; that's the whole point of the statues. You might not like her, but it strikes me as silly and strange to claim that her Oscar win means nothing.

Luke - me in a blonde wig in my PJs
Leia - me in a danish pastry wig and taped down fake boobs
Han - me with my own hair, big weapon and a smug grin
Ben Kenobi - me in a grey wig with a glowing broomstick
Vader - me with asthma and a bucket on my head holding another glowing broomstick
C3PO - me sprayed gold mincing
    R2D2 - me in a dustbin whistling
Chewbacca - me covered with a shagpile carpet
Boba Fett - me with two fire extinguishers strapped to my back

....all composited to appear together on screen at the same time!!!

Ever get the feeling that I would do anything to be in a Star Wars movie!!!!

Steve Buscemi would make a great Greedo. You wouldn't even have to give him any make-up.
