Why did Luke hate the empire, at that point? That was even before the stormtroopers attacked the Lars. He had no reason to hate them by then. Everyone on tattoine lived a normal and peaceful life. Luke knew what the empire had been doing? Like what? Some examples? The Tattoine citizens know what's happening to the rest of the galaxy? Like what?
From "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader" we get to see the Holonet showing Vader slaughtering Wookiees on Kashyyyk (their homeworld) - and other Wookiees being lead away into slavery. Obi-Wan, in Mos-Eisley, sees it in a Tatooine bar. This is only in the first few months after RotS. So- it's an example of how, even early on, the Empire's atrocities are being quickly known as far away as Tatooine. The Essential Atlas lists a few of the more notable atrocities that took place between RoTS and ANH.
Are those books canon? Do they explain enough? Why didn't the movies mention the imperial treating wookies bad? Did they? Were there hints? Why did the empire do that?
The books are "canon enough to satisfy anyone who doesn't insist on movie-only". The empire does bad things partly to intimidate people into not rebelling (backfired badly) partly because people like Tarkin & Palpatine are sociopathic and willing to exploit people to get what they want.
I don't like movie only. I like spin-offs, like books, games, and stuff like that. They make the story more richer and detailed, which I like a lot. I like the EU. But George Lucas made statements implying that they're two different universes-different canon, that I don't know how to explain, and still have the EU be in the same canon as the movies.
Simplest solution is to assume Lucas is trying to downplay the importance of other people's work- contrary to his own company's attitude which is that nearly everything it licences is "canon" and it's one big universe. He thinks that there's a "Lucasverse" consisting solely of things he's had a direct input in (except the Star Wars Holiday Special which he hates and would make non-canon if he could) and an "EUverse" consisting of everything LFL has licenced. Leland Chee, head of continuity for Lucasfilm Licencing, prefers to think there's just an "EUverse" consisting of everything.
There's absolutely no evidence that the theory is correct, and it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, so it's incorrect.
Fur. They didn't need expensive fabric to make coats to stay warm, so their standard of living was higher.
I talk "meow" to my cat, too. And I once "talked" with a crow in Canada; have had several conversations with pikas, too.
There was no reason why Luke shouldnt have joined the empire. They did nothing evil to the people on tattoine. The average joe on tattoine lived a normal life.
