If Anakin went with Mace the only thing different would that Mace would have died earlier...Anakin not let Mace kill Palp because he wantred Padme to live more than anything else.

I think that Mace was the reason why Anakin turned to the Dark Side, because Mace totally disrespected Anakin when he told him to remain at the Jedi Temple.

Anakin is supposed to be the "Chosen One", hence, he should go with the Jedi Masters to destroy the Sith.

The fact that Mace told Anakin to stay behind even after Anakin did the right thing by reporting his findings to Mace Windu only hastened his descent towards the dark side.

Actually, if the counsel had shown Anakin some respect, its very likely he never would have turned (at least at that point). I actually wonder if Palpy would have even attacked if Anakin had come along. It would hardly look good for him to kill three Jedi before they had a chance to defend themselves.

Still, it doesn't matter. Mace screwed up and told Anakin to wait. Anakin put his TRUST in Mace and the counsel, and they didn't reciprocate! No wonder Anakin betrayed them.

In the original version of the scene, Anakin was already there when the Posse arrived. Palpatine then, either pulled Anakin's saber or Anakin threw it to him for defense.

Originally Palpatine fought the duel using Anakin's lightsaber but it was changed from blue to red.
Look closely, the hilt stays the same.

Actually, the film was originally shot with anakin present and still he turned on mace windu. i guess the ONLY diff would be that windu took anakin WITH him rather than anakin already being there with the chancellor OR coming later on. regardless, the movie outcome was cemented. anakin's conflict was concrete and therefore, more than likely, not subject to any changes. he HAD to have padme survive.

A thousand points to the first person who developes a nice, long fanfic story along this line.

IMO, one of the reasons Mace tried to kill Palpy was because Palpy had just killed three of his friends in, what, 10 seconds, and was actively trying to kill Mace. If Anakin is with them, at the beginning when they first arrive, Mace would try to arrest Palpatine. If Palpy brings out his lightsaber and attacks, regardless of his opinions on the matter, if that thing comes anywhere near him, Anakin will at least operate defensively, if not attack.

As long as the Jedi don't actively move to attack Palpatine, why would Anakin act against them? He attacked Mace because Mace was going to kill Palpy. If they don't know how deadly Palpy is, why would they try to kill him? Palpatine could try talking, but to truely get Anakin to back him, Mace and the other three would have to do more than just stand there with their lightsabers out, telling Palpy that he was under arrest.

For the Jedi to attack, Palpy would have no choice but to start the fight. This leads to another problem. If Anakin backs the Jedi, at least defensively, given his power and abilities, it is possible that through the efforts of Anakin and Mace, one or more of the other Jedi might survive.

sure it does. maybe anakin though that mace killed them, that mace and the rest of the jedi were trying to take over. that the other jedi masters were trying to stop mace so he killed them.

This question posted needs more specifics, Does Anakin go with Mace and the accompanying Jedi to serve the arrest or after the three Jedi have been dispatched but before Mace and Sidiuos duel?
I'll stick with the first part.
Anakin goes with Mace and the three Jedi to serve the arrest. What would have gone down if I wrote it.
Sidious would continue his Palpatine pretense and would not resist. As Mace notes in the original cut of the film, Palpatine does have influence over the Senators. Palpatine would allow the Jedi to bring him to the senate for hearings, but there would be no proof for the Jedi's allegations,(other than Anakin's hearsay) thereby allowing Palpatine to respond in his own defense that the Jedi brought about these ridiculous charges in order to try to overthrow the senate's control over the republic, begining with the chancellor's seat. Of course this would discredit the Jedi in the Senate's eyes. At the behest of the Chancellor (some kind of lie), Anakin would be sent on some kind of red herring mission before the start of the trial (if you do this you may save the Jedi, but tell no one of this mission, kind of BS), thus Anakin misses the trial (Star witness- heck the only witness). The Jedi are left with the only witness to bring the accusations against the Chancellor no where to be found. After the rebuttal from the Chancellor making the Jedi seem as the traitors (bearing false witness against thy neighbor and such), and for the exeption of Anakin, Palpy actually defends Anakin and says that the Jedi have influenced and used Anakin as a scapegoat in order to bring about the accusations against Palpy. Why? because Anakin is the Liaison between Palps abd the Jedi. The chancellor would then be able to activate Order 66 in the defense of the senate, but just before that would happen, He would recall Anakin from his mission, the Jedi would be dissapointed in Anakin, though Anakin still cannot defend his actions(secret mission, don't tell anyone), also Anakin would return to find that the senator's have indeed found the Jedi to be the traitors as he is told by Palpy. This leaves Anakin with only Palpatine or Padme to confide in. Thus with the Jedi being dispatch by Clones and Anakin left to Sidious's further mechinations, the story continues with the struggle between Anakin and Obi. The rest follows as depicted in the movie.
Sorry if this is too much, but one of my favorite shows is Law & order.
    Tell me what you think.
