So... what's the white spot?

What is it? The white spot at the end of the death star detention block hall?

An incredible light source? Just an awful matte painting? The end of the world? Is there something else after that spot?

Why did they do this? Has it any meaning? They just could have made a normal dead end and put some lights on the ceiling instead of that white spot.

Is it one of the big Star Wars mysteries?

 

It's light or something. They probably couldn't afford to put something back there.

Hmmm. Maybe an EU technical manual or something can shed some "light" on this.

Perhaps it's simply a vertical shaft, which the tunnel empties out into; the Death Star seems to be riddled with such "never-ending" pits.

 

It's a really bad matte painting. Notice how the "painted" walkway doesn't match up with the physical one.

Yeah, that could be possible!

But I still think it's weird.

For the SE, they spent money on changing Cloud City's & the Death Star Docking Bay's backgrounds, which weren't bad originally and they forgot this white spot, which is very noticeable. ?

Maybe they hadn't the time to change it, maybe they wanted to keep it that way. I shouldn't know.

 

Someone should write a fanfic about it.

 

I got it! When the Death Star was almost completed...there was a union strike and Palapatine had to use Stormtroopers as labor to finish the corridors of the cell bay.

Thats why the deck is cockeyed. Stormtroopers probably can't even draw a straight chalk line.

 

It's a magical portal, leading to Narnia.

 

It's the ramp and entrance to the ewok holding cells.

Perhaps it's the storage facility for all the Stormtrooper armor, which is also white and shiny.

Silly rabbits. All open shafts in Death Stars lead to reactor cores.

 

So one of those stray blaster bolts could've destroyed the Death Star?

Jeez, that would've been a short movie.

 

Reactor Core?

I don't know. Even if it'd be the reactor core, it wouldn't be that white (look at the DS II reactor core), unless the detention block is next to the reactor core. That wouldn't be very healthy.

And isn't this dangerous for everyone? When you walk too far, you fall into the core! Maybe they used it to throw some prisoners into it! Isn't that a good idea?

Anyway, maybe it will be changed for further ANH releases.

 

If you notice the walkway tapers towards the end, and the guy stood up half way down the walkway is already crouching - by the time you get to the white spot it is only 2"x 2"

 

Nah, it's just the matte painting that doesn't suit the perspective of that shot. They ran out of money, I think, to make another one.

So, the spot is as big of the beginning of that hall.
