So you think you know movies??

Good, then you?re just the writer we?re looking for in this next challenge. It?s very easy really, all you have to do is pick a movie title off the list and write a vignette using it as the title of your vignette. That doesn?t sound too hard, does it? Of course, your story should tie in to your title, like every good title does. Right?

    Oh?Wait?

There is one tiny catch. :p You knew there would be. :D Yes, we have a list of movie titles, but we?ve sort of ?disguised? them. The titles are incognito, though you might be able to guess at some of them. For example, the movie title Star Wars might appear as something like: ?a conflict among heavenly bodies.? And yes, some of the mixed-up titles are incredibly lame. That?s part of the fun!

    How do I sign up?

All you have to do to participate is to PM Darth-Challenge-Sock and tell us the number and ?disguised? title that you want. We will PM you back and confirm that one is available. All of the disguised titles will be listed, so if you think you have a pretty guess at what one of them is, take a chance and sign up for that one.

The sock must receive your entries by midnight (board time) on February 28, 2007.

How do I post my response?

We?d like to post the entries blindly and you?ll see why in just a moment. So when you have completed your entry, PM it to the sock listed above and we will post it in the appropriate forum thread.

Have a look at the titles, take a chance, and have fun!

    Will there be colors?

    But of course!

The first place winner will get colors for TWO weeks, the second place winner will get them for ten days, and the third place winner will get colors for one week.

Who is judging this crazy contest?

Well, actually, you are! Every participant will get a chance to send in their vote for the best response. The entry that gets the most votes will win first place, the entry that gets the second-most votes will win second place? You get the picture. :p

When it comes time to vote, you?ll send your votes to the same sock. There will be more details on voting to come soon! ;)

The deadline to sign up to take part in this challenge is midnight board time on Sunday, January 28, 2007.

Certainly we have enough intrepid writers here eager for shiny colors to play our silly game? :D

Remember to keep your film picks super secret and PM the sock.

**rubs hands together maniacally** This is going to be fun to watch. [face_devil]

Wait I'm confused...do we use the tittle that is listed or do we have to use the"decoded" version of the tittle:confused:

We're awarding colors to the winners.

The titles are all disguised movies.

The story title is the undisguised title.
For example: You select "A feline wearing an accessory"
You PM the sock to let the sock know that is the is the story you're going to write.
    You write the story.
You title your story "The Cat in the Hat" and PM the story to the sock.
    The sock posts your story.

    Make sense?

Nope. What does any of it have to do with Star Wars?

I would guess the same thing any quote or title challenge does: that's what the fics are about!

    That's right Persephone_Kore.

The challenge functions the same way as the quotations games and such.
Stories will naturally have a Star Wars theme despite the absence of a Star Wars title.
"The Cat in the Hat" example might have Darth Vader showing up to babysit Luke and Leia one rainy day.

Ah. But what about "7- The story of an angry NCAA coach" ? How is that, decoded or not, going to be turned into a Star Wars fic? Especially since the decoded version, and I think some of the others, would violate forum rules

The correctly decoded version of #7 certainly doesn't violate any forum rules.
The NCAA basketball coach bit is the hint for the title.
The fic does not have to have an NCAA basketball coach in it. However, if you think about a famous angry NCAA basketball coach that might give you an idea as to the title of the movie. The same way that the one with me as the hint does not necessitate a story about me--it's only a hint to the film title. Once you figure out the film title you can write any Star Wars related fic that somehow ties into the decoded title.

The object of the challenge is that:
You decode the hint to figure out the title.
You write a story connected to the title.
    You submit the story.

Ahh. I was under the impression that we couldn't use a real life NCAA basketball coach or you in fanfic.

I may have been confused about the title. I thought the coach's name was a part of it, but I guess it's not [face_thinking]

What happens if we guess the title incorrectly? Are we disqualified or something?

The titles listed are known movies, only slightly hidden. Many can be guess at. At least we thought so. :D

As to guessing the titles, that's not really part of the contest, just meant for you to try to figure out what title you may be most inspired by.

You pick a numbered title and PM Darth-Challenge_Sock. If it hasn't yet been selected, you will receive a PM back with the corrected movie title for which you will then write a SW fanfic for using that mvoive as your title for the story.

Ah. I was under the impression that we wouldn't be told what the titles were. Thanks for the clarification. :)

So, in the future, will the winners of all writing challenges be made two week VIPs or just the winners of this one?

The winners of this one as it is sponsored by the Fan Fiction Moderating Team. It is the same as with the Dare Challenge.

Challenges hosted by independent threads will not receive colors.

Just like the Dare challenge, the three top winners will get colors for a bit. This writing challenge is no different than a lot of the others on the boards, for example, the Simpsons' Quotation Roulette challenge. Same premise. :)

    I think I've got one...*sending PM*

Very creative challenge, though. Kudos to whomever came up with it.
