I quite liked him in Revelation, but that book's general malaise tends to drown the good bits out.

    I agree completely.

I got this one. Because for almost the entire book he is completely by himself, without parents, aunt, uncle, or cousins to detract from his own feats. He gets to insult a rude old lady, sneak into a museum, get lost in a forest, save a little girl and form a bond with her, and fight off Sith spirits tempting him to do all sorts of evil things (including eating said little girl). All in all, Exile is one of the biggest reasons I love Ben.

As did I. Ben's full-out CSI mode was totally awesome. And Shevu played out excellently as a friend and mentor for Ben.

As for me, I'll add that some of my favorite Ben moments happen in Outcast (when Luke forces him to beat up the Baran Do academy guard, among other things) and *gasp!* Apocalypse. The latter, I like because of his feats in the book. Between fighting through the Jedi Temple and taking out a fair share of Sith, to performing a Force blast that would've knocked a frigate out of orbit, Ben definitely shone in that book. But yes, as for pure Ben awesomeness throughout, definitely Exile.

@Revanfan1 to piggyback off of your comments regarding Exile, I completely agree, and this is also why I enjoy Ben in Revelation. He's acting and operating completely on his own, no Caedus, no Mara, just pure Ben Skywalker making choices and living with the consequences. It's easy for him to fall into the shadows when being blinded by his Grand Master father's presence, but when he's on his own he's able to truly shine and show off his own abilities. Honestly, I wish we'd gotten more of that in FOTJ, though I did enjoy his relationship with Luke and how it'd grown.

To me Ben was at his best in Backlash. He has not been great since.

Oh, yeah. I forgot Backlash. That's one of the best FOTJ books.

you know i am re-reading FOTJ right now. I liked Outcast, the ligt hearted play between Luke and Ben. I don't like that Lue was exiled, but i accepted that as a part of the dalla is an idiot storyline. Not del Rey's fault. I am re-reading Omen, and that is good. This series was really good for ahwile, just like LOTF, and just like LOTf it went downhill. I especially thought it went downhill in Asension, undoing all the good in Conviction, and then of course the mess that was Apocalypse.

Does anyone remember which book it was that said Ben had no friends?

of course Luke saw a vision where Ben was playing with a wookie, but that never happened onscreen. Ben did not get a childhood.

I liked Ben the best when he was a Detective/Jedi also working for the GAG In LOTF.

How to save Ben? Give him a brother or sister. Have Luke find out through his journey that one of the women he was with previously years ended up getting pregnant by him, and now Ben has a sibling. Ben gets a peer, and we get to see his development with finding out he's not an only kid anymore.

I personally believe that Luke did not have intercourse with any woman before Mara. Just a personal head-canon. Han, it was heavily implied many, many times, but Luke it was not even hinted. Did he even once kiss Callista or Akanah?

well Ben needs to be portrayed evenly by multiple authors. To me, Allston does the best Ben

Quite. We don't need stuff like "MAN DISCOVERS THE WOMAN HE LOVES IS ACTUALLY HIS SISTER!" in this franchise..

Sorry, I had enough "LONG LOST LOVE RETURNS" during Fate of the Jedi. Not to mention the baby daddy drama in Dark Nest.

Maybe you're right. Star Wars is Jerry Springer.

(No wonder I haven't liked anything between 35 and 45 ABY.)

I kinda want to see Ben bring Vestara back from the dark. be kinda symbolic for the son to redeem a dark sider just like his father did (both his father and his future wife)
