?Many of your fathers and brothers have perished valiantly in the face of a contemptible enemy. We must never forget what the Federation has done to our people! By focusing our anger and sorrow, we are finally in a position where victory is within our grasp, and once again, our nation will flourish. Victory is the greatest tribute we can pay those who sacrifice their lives for us! Rise, Rise! Take your sorrow, and turn it into anger! Zeon thirsts for the strength of its people! SIEG ZEON!!!
--Admiral Gihren Zabi, eulogy for his slain brother Captain Garma Zabi

It is the year 0079 of the Universal Century calendar and the Earth Sphere is currently embroiled in the Zeon War of Independence, the conflict that would later be known as the One Year War. On January 02nd, 0079, the Principality of Zeon declared complete war on the Earth Federation under the pretense of freeing Spacenoids from the persecution given to them by the corrupt and Earth-centric Earth Federation government. Within three seconds of the declaration, the Zeon fleets attacked Federation strongholds at several colonies. This would be the beginning of the One Year War.

One week later, the Zeon forces would attempt to quickly end the war by dropping a space colony on the Federation's Main HQ in Jaburo. This would be known as Operation British and was intended to force the Federation into peace negotiations and secure Spacenoid independence. However, a fierce battle pushed the colony off course, causing it to break up in the atmosphere. The largest piece landed directly upon Sydney, Australia, obliterating the city and causing massive damage to the Earth's climate.

The battle for a quick end to the war was not over, however, as the Principality of Zeon launched an attack at Side 5, known as Loum, in an attempt to secure more colonies for a second Operation British. The Battle of Loum would be the result as the Federation fleet was prepared for the attack. Nuclear Weapons were used by both sides, resulting in almost all colonies at Side 5 being destroyed, the Federation losing 3/4th of its fleet and 2.5 billion civilian casualties. Only the heavily damaged Texas Colony survives, but is uninhabitable. It is here where Zeon first deploys Mobile Suits in a combat role and it is also where many Zeon aces such as Char Aznable, Johnny Ridden, and The Black Tri-Stars earn their wings.

Following the Battle of Loum, the Antarctic Treaty prohibits the use of Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical weapons as well as colony drops. This, along with heavy casualties on both sides, produces a stalemate in the war for several months before the emergence of a new team of Federation Soldiers known to the Zeon as ?the Trojan Horse? and the Federation as ?White Base?. Together with their emerging newtype, Amuro Ray, and the White Mobile Suit known as Gundam, White Base begins to turn the tide of war in favor of the Earth Federation, beginning with their leading the assault on Odessa.

With Odessa lost, the Zeon look for any chance to regain dominance on Earth...
Welcome to Soldiers of Sorrow, an RPG set in the universe of Mobile Suit Gundam and the One Year War. During the rise of the Gundam, Zeon lost one of its most promising young rulers, Garma Zabi. At Garma's funeral his brother Gihren, the real man behind Zeon, gave a rousing speech that not only raised the morale of the Zeon troops, but inspired a new wave of recruits from spacenoids throughout the colonies. In the aftermath of Odessa, a new Zeon mobile suit team is formed from these new recruits and veterans alike in order to investigate Federation activity in the Congo region of Africa. You will be tasked with portraying this mobile suit team as they make their way through the closing months of the One Year War. Remember, you fight for freedom, from tyranny and oppression, freedom from prejudice, and the right for those who live in space, to rule those who live in space.

The following post provides some additional information regarding the series in which this rpg takes place. This information is for your benefit as an easy to reference guide to the major terminology that will be used. After this terminology post will be another post containing a list of the main mobile suits that will be found in this rpg, again, just as an easy to reference guide.

Additional Information:

Earth Sphere
- The term used to describe the region of space encompassing the Earth, Moon, and all the artificial satellites that orbit them.
[image=http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8307/spacemap1.gif]

Earth Federation
- Loosely based on the United Nations, the Earth Federation is the main government body found in the Earth Sphere. They maintain order and preside over the residents of not only the Earth, but also those found on the moon and the space colonies. By UC 0079, the Earth Federation's government's central offices are held by only Earth borne citizens. The main Federation Headquarters was located in an underground facility the size of Tokyo located in Jaburo.
[image=http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5416/earthfederationflag.png] [image=http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5395/racelogoef.jpg]

The Principality of Zeon
- Originally the Republic of Zeon and ruled by Zeon Zum Deikun, the Principality of Zeon was the name the residents of Side 3 adopted shortly after Degwin Zabi took control following Deikun's death. Principality of Zeon held that the only way for the Space Colonies to be completely free and independent of the Earth Federation was through war. To that end the Principality undertook rapid development of military technology, introducing among other things the mobile suit and the Minovsky particle effect.

Space Colonies
-All Universal Century Colonies are O'Neil ?Island Three? Type Colony Cylinders. They are placed at five gravitationally stable points in space, known as Lagrangian points. In most cases, a Lagrangian Point is home to more than one group of space colonies. Individual colonies are known as "Bunches", and a group of colonies that occupy a Lagrangian Point are known collectively as a "Side". Because Sides sometimes share a single Lagrangian Point, it is possible to have two Sides in close orbit to one another.
[image=http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/5787/300pxonielcylinder.jpg]

Side 1
- Called Zarn, it is the Federation's Space Capital. Some of the colonies found here include Shangri-La (the first colony), 30 Bunch, Island Blade, and Island Ease.

Side 2
- Called Hatte, this is probably where the colony used in Operation British originated. Some of the colonies found here include Island Iffish, Bunch 13, 18th Block, and 21st Block.

Side 3
- Home to the Principality of Zeon, this is where most of the player characters will probably originate from. It is also here that Zeon Zum Deikun began to spread his philosophy about the Earth's sacred nature. He believed that the only way for humanity to save itself and the Earth was to evolve into what he termed ?Newtypes?.

Side 4
- Known as Mua. Another candidate for the origin of the Operation British colony. The only known colony is New Manhattan.

Side 5
- Known as Loum. This was the site of the most devastating battle in human recorded history. The result of the second Operation British was the destruction of almost all colonies, with the only surviving colony losing its life support system, effectively ending its usefulness as well. Massive civilian and military casualties resulted from the Battle of Loum. The only remaining colony is the now defunct Texas Colony.

Side 6
- Known as Riah. Side 6 declared independence from the Earth Federation on April UC0077, and thanks to backing from the Principality of Zeon, succeeded in gaining independence, at which point this Side adopts the name Riah Republic. Unlike Side 3, which went to war t

Gender: Female
Age: 19
Home Colony: Texas Colony
Personality

---Traits: Usually quiet, but when she does speak, it is always in a hopeful tone. She saw to much too give into despair. She is always supportive and caring to those she thinks some needs it, but isn?t really good at finding the subtle hints of depression and personal problems

---Likes: Heavy Metal, and anything else loud and that could be considered music. Old movies, TV shows, and books.

---Dislikes: Smoking in any form whatsoever.

---Habits: Always puts a picture of her and her friends from college on dash board of any Mech she?s piloting

---Skin Color: Light Brown

---Hair Color: Strawberry Blonde

---Eye Color: Hazel Brown

---Clothing: A slightly looser Zeon solider jumpsuit uniform with the dark green suit, and light green lines on the side.

---Other Attributes: Stands at 5?10 and has a very lean body structure. Has a short thin nose, along with other smaller facial features. Keeps her hair short, though after taking off her helmet it has a way of standing up .

---Other Details: Has an eyebrow piercing on her left eyebrow when not on duty.

Biography

---Personal History:

Born on Texas Colony back when it was ?really? a colony worth living on, during the period when it was the financial heart of Side 5. Born to a mid ranking salary man in a car company operating out of Texas Colony and female undertaker, Jessica had normal childhood, with a sweet tang of the macabre because of her mother?s profession. Until the Battle of Loum, she would be slightly de sensitized to the impact of death.

Though slightly stand offish in school, she became quick friends with Jason Martin and a handful of others, and still maintains a older sister like relationship with him.

She was already being groomed by her father to take a executive position in her father?s company, going as far as to go to the same college he did and take the same classes, her life destination was interrupted when the Loum incident happened. Everything changed then.

It was during this battle that Jamitov Hymem, an Earth Federation officer, acting on suspicions of the Texas colony harboring Zeon sympathizers, fired off several shots aimed at disabling the colony. This was later hailed by the Federation as one of the few triumphs in an otherwise atrocious battle.

While her family, unlike Martin's family managed to escape unharmed, they where left destitute, at the mercy of Federation ?charity?. Looking for a new start, and actual freedom, she joined the Zeon Military after hearing of Federation involvement on the incident.

---Military History: Until recently she was mostly used as an auxiliary troop, a peace keeper in areas that had been recently taken over by Zeon forces, and has seen limited action in the way of Guerrilla Forces and dissenters but hasn?t seen any type of action that would have anything other than accidental casualties, so this will be her first time assigned to the frontlines and first time seeing real action, where her or her comrades might die. Even that experience was limited however?having been in the service of Zeon for less than a month.

---Likes: Making others happy, eating, laughing, being with friends.
---Dislikes: Seeing others hurt, fighting, being alone.

---Hair Color: Black
---Eye Color: Brown
---Clothing: When not in uniform, Kotoha can usually be seen wearing a yellow sweater or light jacket with sleeves that are too long, a short skirt, and knee high socks with tennis shoes/ or a jumper of some kind.
---Other Attributes: Very short, and slightly above average in weight.
---Other Details: Hair in pigtails behind her ears, with long bangs, and slightly curly. Slightly big ears that stick out due to the hair. Round, cute face with a small round nose, often smiling.

Biography
---Personal History: Kotoha grew up in Zum City with her parents and older sister. When she was very young, her parents were captured by the Federation and never heard from again. Her older vowed to avenge them, and became a promising pilot prospect for the Principality of Zeon, and was recruited into an experimental soldier program based around Zeon Zum Deikum's philosophy. However, the experiments did not go well, and it left her sister unable to pilot, or even function normally.

---Military History: Determined to keep her sister's oath, Kotoha joined the Zeon Military Academy, and, like her sister, showed great ability in the cockpit. But after witnessing what had happened to her sister, Kotoha refused to participate in any experimental programs. Kotoha is a great technical pilot, and is not easily shaken, but lacks inventiveness and imagination in the cockpit, relying mostly on her training.

When he became of age to take care of himself, he did. He was highly popular in school, star athlete and student, but he lacked a home life as when he got home after school he would eat a small, simple meals and then call his friends to go out. When he graduated, he went directly into the military and, not having the same gifts his mother and father had, signed up for infantry to fight the Earth Federation.

His life outside the military is that of a reclusive playboy. He parties and drinks, but also is a humanitarian, though does not get involved in politics. He loves women and sports and hopes to one day find the right girl.
---Military History: In the military, Vaan is a decorated soldier. His rank is Lieutenant and he has a reputation for being a laid back, casual leader, though extremely determined and prone to angry outbursts.

Home Colony: Texas, Side 5
Personality
---Traits: Jason is enthusiastic, if a bit overeager, and believes fully in the Zeon cause. He tends to be upbeat, but when he gets angry he can tend towards being violently unstable.
---Likes: The Principality of Zeon, victory, the Newtype Ideal
---Dislikes: ?Feddy scum,? losing, anything he perceives as traitorous to the cause, Earthnoids
---Habits: Cracks his knuckles when he?s becoming frustrated.

Appearance
---Skin Color: Caucasian
---Hair Color: Brown
---Eye Color: Brown
---Clothing: Cadet?s uniform, always kept clean and neat. While off duty, he favors earth tones.
---Other Attributes: Has a scar across the bridge of his nose
---Other Details: Reasonably tall at about 1.83 meters, lean and lanky.

Biography
---Personal History: Jason Martin is a native of the ill-fated Texas colony, and spent his days attending school with his good friend and neighbor, Jessica Lou. It was a rather ordinary and mundane existence of reasonably good grades and more or less idyllic living. Then the war came.

Less than two weeks after the Principality of Zeon declared war on the Earth Federation, a major Zeon offensive was launched at Side 5. This would result in the catastrophic Battle of Loum.

What Hymem didn?t realize was that one of the shots went slightly astray, leveling Jason?s neighborhood and killing his parents in the resulting blast. Somehow, he managed to walk away merely with the scar now streaked across his face, and he was able to escape in an emergency transport. He initially blamed Zeon for the attacks, however, as soon as he saw reports of what had happened, he swore to himself that someday, he would have his revenge on Jamitov Hymem and, indeed, the entire Earth Federation. The next day he signed up for the Zeon military.

While serving under Zeon, Jason took to reading the works of Zeon Zum Deikun, and has become thoroughly convinced of the righteousness of the Zeon cause.

---Military History: Jason?s about as fresh a recruit as can be imagined, and only joined the Zeon military a few months ago. He was present as a civilian at the infamous Battle of Loum.

Approaching Earth's Atmosphere
~Aboard the Zanzibar Class cruiser Sardinia~

All six members who had been assigned to the Sardinia's mobile suit complement stood in line as a very tall man with broad shoulders and graying hair paced in front of them. He was stern in his movements around the mobile suit hold as he eyed each of the soldiers that had recently come to call his ship home. He took solace that, should trouble arise, there would be help from the Corsica's Mobile Suit pilots as well. They were actually fully stationed to that Zanzibar class cruiser and were far more experienced in combat than those who had been given to him. He went by Captain Serbik, and he had even taken part in the Battle of Loum.

Making his way back down the row, one last time, he really examined each pilot. Petty Officer Third Class Jessica Lou was the first member of the team he reached. She was young, green, and he could tell what limited experience she had wouldn't help her much in a combat for the first time. She would need guidance in order to reach her full potential.

The next in line was Petty Officer Third Class Jason Martin. Like P.O. Lou, Martin had been a resident of Texas Colony until the unfortunate events of Loum. Full of fire and loyalty, but still green like his friend, he would probably need the most help in knowing when to follow orders and when to do what was right. Serbik couldn't help but see a little of himself in the young man, fresh into the military without any formal training. Seeking justice in the name of a cause he believed in.

Following down the line he found Chief Petty Officer Russel Jordan to be a little too enthusiastic for the mission. He was the Non-Commissioned Officer and the man had been on several different sorties, earning a reputation for brash actions that would put his teammates in trouble. It wasn't bloodlust, it was more as if Jordan saw war as a game.

Serbik quietly came to Petty Officer First Class Joey Scott. This was a man was a natural at following orders. He was precise and his earlier missions indicated he did his job and only his job. A musician, the man spends most of his free time lost in thought. He was exactly the kind of man they would need to help show some discipline to the greenhorns.

The only other woman on the team, Ensign Kotoha Morita, was also the second in command when on field missions. Not easily rattled, Kotoha was a lot like Scott when it came to missions. Energetic and innocent, despite having seen war's horrors already, Serbik was quite positive she would be the heart of the team. She was someone who, while lacking the ability to truly think on her feet, could still lead a plan to fruition.

Finally, Serbik came to Lieutenant Vaan Gael Cloud, the field leader. His laid back, casual approach to leading has earned him a bit of a reputation as easy to approach. He inspires closeness from his soldiers while still being able to put them in their place when they act out of line. He was the perfect choice to provide strength to this team of youngsters. For those who were too strict, perhaps he could loosen them. Either way, he would be tasked with raising the effectiveness of this group for the mission ahead.

Stepping out in front of the group, Serbik began. ?Alright, you sad excuses for pilots. You are now officially at the ready to assist in the re-entry maneuvers for this particular mission. With this, your operation has begun. The Corsica will be the true base of operations in the region, landing at the drop zone in a dense forest. The Sardinia will be dropping you and your supplies off and heading further into Zeon held territory in order to prepare for its return to space. The drop part will happen once we've entered the atmosphere and is why these units have been equipped with parachu

Lieutenant Vaan Gael Cloud
-Sardinia

Vaan had not been impressed by the kids, because that was what they were, around them. Some of them had barely any, if at all, combat experience, but were loyal and bright-eyed. It was up to him to make sure that they did not get killed. The younger soldiers were the ones who thought of courageous acts and wanted to get right in the midst of fighting, throwing strategies out the window. Not that they would be able to keep their wits about them when the bullets first started flying, but then again, that was what Vaan was there for.

It was time. Throwing a grin and a salute, he and his squad ran off to their cockpits. Once he was in his Zaku II, Vaan shook his head rapidly, getting himself focused and then met up with Russel outside. "See, not all games is it. Here's how we are going to play this people." Vaan's Zaku II pulled out his bazooka.

"Jessica, Joey, I want hard machine gun fire laid on them, keep them at bay. If they get past us, take them out with your bazookas." He called them by their first names to give them a sense of the trust that he was placing in their hands. Maybe they would feel comfortable and more motivated if they were treated like people and not numbers. "Russel, Kotoha, and Jason, on me. Remember, our prime objective is protecting the Sardinia!"

Vaan fired his bazooka at one of the GMs, the GM that had killed a fellow Zeon soldier, and aiming it right into his target's back. Wasting no time, he drew his heat hawk and flew towards the GMs. He dodged a beam saber slashed and countered with his heat hawk in a chop to cut his opponent in half.

Ensign Kotoha Morita
~Aboard the Sardinia~

Kotoha's usually cheery face was set into a focused line as she settled into the Zaku's cockpit. She did a quick but thorough check of her instruments, fired up the engines, and blasted off into space behind the Lieutenant.

"Russel, Kotoha, and Jason, on me. Remember, our prime objective is protecting the Sardinia!"

"Sir!" She barked. Adrenaline began coursing through her veins, and the Zaku fell smoothly in line directly behind the Lieutenant's. The mech moved like an extension of herself, as she easily held her position. When Cloud engaged the GM in close quarters, Kotoha burst out to the left, strafing in a wide arc, she opened fire with her machine gun on another nearby GM.

It returned fire, its bullets tracking after her. She dropped down hard in space, then strafed back to the right, giving the Zaku everything it had, this time closing the distance between herself and the GM. The Zaku shook as it was peppered with gunfire. Kotoha stopped her strafe suddenly, and burst ahead, preparing her Heat Hawk for melee.

It wasn't training anymore. There was an actual person in the other cockpit. But as much as Kotoha valued human life, she valued her promise to her sister even more, and and a battle cry escaped her lungs, filled with anger and pain, as her Heat Hawk came down intended for the GM's head.

Name:Alasdair Z'dain
Gender:Male
Age:26
Home Colony: Side 3
Personality
---Traits: Having seen a good amount of combat Alasdair has developed into a quiet individual. He rarely speaks out, save during mission briefings when he has a question or detail to add. When he does speak, its short and to the point. The only time this doesn't apply is when he's drunk, which is now an incredibly rare event since he's placed his focus into the war.

---Likes:Despite his quiet demeanor Alasdair enjoys heavy metal music. He was once asked why he listens to it so loud and he responded "When all you can think about is the loud guitar in your ear, you can't hate yourself for all the people who's loved ones you've taken away." Contradicting this however, is his enjoyment of classical instrumentals, though he listens to them less and less. Taking more and more respite in the deep and loud cords of an electric guitar.

---Dislikes: Alasdair has several dislikes. Some minor, some major. One is smoking. He believes smoking defaces the human body in a way nothing else can. The body can process alcohol, but not the byproducts of smoking. The smell also turns his stomach. He dislikes loud people, particularly loud people who act like they're Gods gift to all things in creation. Along with this he dislikes arrogant individuals who think their better then everyone else. He also secretly wants to jettison Char out the nearest airlock, seeing the man as an Arrogant pretty boy who took a few successes to seriously.

---Habits: Alasdair has a habit of thinking up modifications to his mobile suit. These much more often then not never leave his brain or notepad, and none have been implemented. The only idea Alasdair has taken into serious consideration was the mounting of a second 4 barrel 35 mm gun on the other arm. He keeps a record of every confirmed kill he makes, and performs a private service for them by himself, honoring them in dying for what they believed in, even if they were enemies.

---Other Details: Has one tattoo, on his left arm reading 'Tis a heavy cost...

Biography
---Personal History: Alasdair was born the year after Zeon Zum Diekin came to Side 3, 0053. As he grew up, he grew to believe in the concept of Contolism. He grew believed that not only was the Earth sacred but so was all Life. Growing up under the influence of Contolism he did however grow to believe that the lives of Spacenoids were more sacred, as they would lead to the future of a better Earth. He spent his childhood and early teenage years in school, studying computers as his major course of study. He was rather advanced in the field, but was not a true prodigy, simply a hard worker. When he was 16 years old, his home of Side 3 became known as the Principality of Zeon, it wasn't long after that he joined a Military Academy.
---Military History: While in the Academy Alasdair trained as a Pilot. Though it was only 0069 and Mobile suits were perhaps not even in design phases he trained to be a pilot. Though as the pilot of small scale fighter craft, and shuttles. In the year 0074 Alasdair learned of the Prototype Zaku-I, a subject that interests him, the concept of mechanized soldiers that are piloted seemed to click within him.

In 0075 Alasdair applies to join the first Mobile Suit Training Battalion, he is denied. Later that year he reapplies and is considered but again denied. In 0077 he again applies to mobile suit training having completed his Pilots training two years prior. He is approved. Aladsair proves to be an adept pilot, excelling at land based combat with a mobile suit. By the end of his training in 0078 he is assigned a Zaku II. He continues

Petty Officer Third Class Jason Martin
~Aboard the Zanzibar Class cruiser Sardinia~

Jason was grinning from ear-to-ear as he strapped himself into the cockpit of the Zaku II, clenching and unclenching his hands around the controls. He quite literally found himself trembling from a mixture of both excitement and anticipation. His first battle. He was going to get a chance to kill Feddies, all in the name of the great Principality of Zeon. And he wasn't going to stop until every single one of them was dead.

"Russel, Kotoha, and Jason, on me. Remember, our prime objective is protecting the Sardinia!"

"Sir, yes sir!" Jason barked in response, easing the Zaku into position in the formation. All systems were functioning normally, and it was as easy as flying a routine training mission... with the exception of the very real possibility of death looming over his heads. But Jason Martin was not going to die. Not until he took down every last scumbag the Federation could throw at him. They had killed his family, and now they were all going to pay for it.

As if on cue, the enemy mobile suits, GMs, were becoming closer and closer in range. Lieutenant Cloud and Ensign Morita wasted no time in getting straight to business, and had begun attacking two of the GMs. Following their example, Jason spotted a third and aimed his machine gun at the cockpit with as much care as possible, given the circumstances.

"Position target in the center..." he said quietly to himself, "And..."

The enemy GM started shooting at him! Dodging only just in the nick of time, Jason found himself having to rethink his strategy a bit. Clearly no one was going to give him time to sit still and shoot. So maybe...

He charged his Heat Hawk and rushed forward, slashing in the direction of the enemy's cockpit. "Die, Federation dog!"

OOC: I'm going on the assumption that since this is a primary ground group, and we're currently in space, that we're using MS-06F Zaku II's with MS-06J/MS-06JC Ground Combat Zaku II weapon load-outs since the J type lacks Apogee motors.

Alasdair Z'dain
Corsica

The cockpit of the Zaku II slowly came to life around Alasdair. It seemed slow, sluggish. Maybe it was malfunctioning? Or maybe, more likely, it was that he had grown used to the higher performance of the Gouf. It didn't matter, the Zaku was a superior machine to the GM, particularly in the hands of a well trained Pilot. Finally the Mobile Suits systems came online.

Out loud Alasdair ran a visual system's check. ?120mm Machine gun loaded, spare clips...? he checked the screen that displayed the status of storage racks on his suits waist armor. ?Check. 280mm Bazooka attached to back rack. Check. Spare clip on right waist armor, check. Heat Hawk, check and fully charged. Leg missile racks check.? He flipped the final switches readying the Zaku for launch.

?This is Lieutenant Z'dain Launching.? Taking a deep breath he wrapped his hands tighter around this controls. The Zaku stepped forward towards the Egress hatch. A quick burst from the mobile suits thrusters and the Zaku was free and floating towards the battle. The Zaku's mono eye scanned the conflict ahead. His sensors and visuals started to display the problem ahead of him, well, problems. GM's, six of them....

The Lieutenant drew upon his battle history, he'd faced GM's before on the ground, there wasn't much difference between the that and the space version, mostly thrusters. They were mass produced, nothing compared to the recorded capabilities of the White Mobile Suit of the Trojan Horse, but deadly if you weren't careful. Their biggest advantage were those beam weapons, but there lay their flaw, unlike the White Mobile suit, their beams had a shorter range, a much sorter range. But inside that range they were deadly, as one of the pilots from the Corsica had learned.

Alasdair could hear the Lieutenant of the other group, and opened comms to the other Zaku's from the Corsica and Sardinia. ?This is Lieutenant Z'dain, these GM's beam guns have a short range, much sorter then the range of our Machine Guns and Bazooka's, I know from experience. Try and keep out of their range. Keep moving, they can't fire as fast as we can, and we out number them. Keep them guessing, keep laying down fire. If you have to engage at close range keep an eye on your sensors, do not let them get behind you!?

As he said all this he switched the Zaku's weapon over to the Bazooka. He pulled a bead onto the GM that had taken out the Zaku just moments before. When he was sure his target was acquired the Zaku pulled the trigger. The 280mm AP round burst outward from the bazooka's barrel streaming across the vacuum towards the targeted GM. He would take yet another life, another man to die for the cause. A heavy cost, but one that must be payed.

Re-Entry Battle
Approaching Earth's Atmosphere

"See, not all games is it. Here's how we are going to play this people." Vaan's Zaku II pulled out his bazooka. "Jessica, Joey, I want hard machine gun fire laid on them, keep them at bay. If they get past us, take them out with your bazookas. Russel, Kotoha, and Jason, on me. Remember, our prime objective is protecting the Sardinia!"

"Roger that." Rusell Jordan replied, also readying his bazooka as he followed Cloud's Zaku into the firefight. As they flew towards the battle between the two forces, the GMs power became even clearer with the site of their beam weapons and shields. Beam weapons were far more dangerous than the bullets that the Zaku's carried in their guns. One hit from a GM could very well be fatal as that other Zaku pilot had just discovered.

As Cloud took aim at the lead GM and fired, the enemy pilot turned towards him with just barely enough time to pull his shield up. The blast rocked the GM back, its shield having been torn apart by the attack. Tossing it aside, it took aim at Cloud's Zaku just as he readied his Heat Hawk and charged in. The Heat Hawk sliced through the rifle, forcing the GM to pull out its beam saber. It slashed down, barely missing Cloud's mobile suit. Cloud came in for another slash, this time at the GM's waste. The GM quickly brought the beam saber up, catching the heat hawk and holding it in place.

Suddenly a voice the Sardinia's Zaku team had never heard came over their comms.

The voice belonged to Z'dain, as he positioned his Zaku and took aim. He waited for confirmation of a lock, seeing the GM locked in melee with Cloud's mobile suit. With the confirmation, he fired his shot. The shot hit the GM in the side of its chest, just under the arm. The impact carried it away from Cloud and out into space where the familiar arc of electricity consumed the metal machine and it exploded.

Kotoha had decided to engage the GM with her machine gun. The two dueling throughout the airspace, Kotoha leading the GM away from both the Corsica and the Pegasus-class Federation cruiser. Eventually, however, the GM forced the Zaku into the range at which its beam weapon would be the most dangerous. Kotoha, realizing the machine gun was not the most effective tool for this range, charged her heat hawk and pressed forward. The move caught the GM pilot a little off guard, having accepted that this fight would be more like a chess match than a brawl. It barely had time to turn its shield towards the weapon. The heat hawk came crashing in, slicing into the shield. The force of the strike had been heavy as Kotoha's attack sliced deeper into the shield than the GM pilot had intended. With the sound of shattering glass, the GM's camera and visor shattered leaving the pilot to effectively fly blind. He wasn't going to go without a fight, however, as he fired wildly with his beam weapon, hitting Kotoha's Zaku in the left arm. The blast tore through the elbow, ripping the arm from the body.

Jason had prepared to take on the GM that trailed behind the one Cloud engaged. Lining up the shot, however, he discovered that a real battle was nothing like a training exercise as the enemy fired on him. Jason was barely able to dodge the blast. Jason put away his machine gun, choosing instead to rely on melee like many others. Pulling out and charging his heat hawk, he rushed in aiming to kill the GM. Jason's opponent was ready for this, however, and blocked the strike with the full front of his shield. The GM ignited its thrusters for a short moment in order to push the Zaku away. Now with some d

Lieutenant Vaan Gael Cloud
-Approaching Earth's Atmosphere

People, throughout history, have always stated that war was hell. Vaan had been in battle before, but he had never been in an operation this messy. What was happening on the battlefield right now was hell. An unexpected visitor had made an appearance over their comms. That was the beginning. While aiding Vaan by placing a well-aimed shot in the chest of his opponent, the voice made a point in that they should avoid close range fighting and keep in motion. Vaan agreed, but still suspicious of the voice. He did not respond, examining their situation.

The series of events proceeded like a well-rehearsed play about tragedy and war. Kotoha battled her opposing GM with her machine gun. She was good, but the desperation of her opponent granted him a last glory as he shot through her left arm, blowing the Zaku's arm off. Jason's Zaku had its leg blown off. Joey, in a fit of rage, attempted a melee fight with a GM and was disposed of brightly, but silently. Jessica was also a victim, though Vaan saw an opening.

As he checked his sensors for any nearby GMs and also to see if he was in range of a beam cannon, Vaan aimed his bazooka and shot a blast to the back of the GM that had killed Jessica. The GM's dance would end there. Then he noticed that the Federation Cruiser was attacking the Sardinia. Damn, this was geting worse by the minute. Jason would need to retreat, aided by Russel, but they now had nowhere to retreat to. Kotoha, while still being able to move, would die in a close combat session.

He had to take control.

"Russel, aide Jason in a retreat. Jason, start laying down fire. Z'dain, cover me." They would have to maintain their distance, but Kotoha was in trouble and it was Vaan's job to make sure that the remainder of them still got out alive. He was risking alot, but nothing risked, nothing gained. Heat hawk in hand, he closed on Kotoha's attacker.

It was a bit late for that, she mused. She had played it too close, and now she was in real trouble, as she was stuck in close quarters. Luckily, she had done enough damage to his sensors that she should be able to finish him off, but the GM pilot was not going down so easy. Kotoha braced for the impact of the beam weapon tearing through the Zaku's left arm. The cockpit rattled, but Kotoha was not.

She did not make mistakes twice. As the GM pilot shot blindly around her, Kotoha realized she needed to put distance between herself and the GM, and engaged her thrusters in full reverse, zagging wildly, hoping to escape the Beam range. As she did, she drew her Zaku's bazooka, confirmed a lock upon the impaired GM, and fired...

Lieutenant Alasdair Z'dain
Low Earth Orbit, Battle, Approaching Atmosphere

This battle had degraded into a Charlie Foxtrot faster than anything Alasdair had seen. Eleven months he'd been in the war. Eight months he'd been fighting the ground war in South America. He'd seen losses. He'd seen rookies charge into battle heat hawks raised high only to fall cleaved in half or beam rifle through the cockpit. But nothing like this. Every rookie thought they were the next Char Aznable. The Best thing that could happen for Zeon was for Char to do something heroic, and Die, showing the rookies that there's a cost for stupidity.

But there wasn't time to think about Char or anything else. Despite his warnings, nearly everyone rushed into melee range. As his Zaku floated not far behind the Corsica, his suits inertia carrying him along, making him all the more difficult to target, he watched the madness. Even his fellow squad mates from the Corsica had rushed in and engaged the GM's at close range. And they payed for it. Alasdair was now the only remaining pilot from the Corsica, he morned their loss, and he would avenge them.

?Z'dain, cover me.? it was the Lieutenant from the Saradina, the IFF system labeled him as Lieutenant Cloud. Z'dain's Zaku's thrusters ignited and the Combat Specialist accelerated after his comrades. It was apparent that the Lieutenant was going to assist his team mate who'd lost an arm, ID'd as Ensign Morita, but within moments the one armed Zaku raised their Bazooka and fired at point blank range. There was little chance for the GM to dodge had they not been blind.

This was when Z'dain got an Idea. He looked at his sensors, for a GM sufficiently far away. ?Lieutenant Cloud, this is Z'dain. It looks like Ensign Morita has herself covered. But I have an idea.? he highlighted the GM he had ID'd earlier over TeamComm. ?We're gonna need to take one from the book of the Black Tri-Stars.? His Zaku shifted towards the GM at full speed, Bazooka at the ready already confirming a target lock. He hoped that Cloud would get the idea that he was referring to a Jet Stream Attack.

As he closed in on the GM Z'dain fired the bazooka straight towards the center mass. Then with a quick command his leg thrusters fired and the Zaku shot upwards away from the Federation mobile suit. If the mobile suit blocked or dodged the attack, and Cloud had gotten the idea and followed, then Cloud would be in the perfect position to finish off the MS with his Heat Hawk. If Cloud didn't follow, it had the potential to get bad for him fast. The thought made him wince for a moment, and wish he was in his Gouf. They were known to be able to take a hit from a Beam Spray Gun, this Zaku, wasn't known for that.

Lieutenant Vaan Gael Cloud
-Approaching Earth's Atmosphere

After witnessing Kotoha firing a point blank range bazooka shot with her Zaku's other arm, Vaan smiled nd turned around. He was glad to have someone of her caliber on the team. She was tough. Tough and not stupid, which is what they needed. The chance of the GM surviving that and already being blind was nonexistant. Vaan was going to order her to fall back, but she seemed to be able to take care of herself. He ordered it anyway. Having one arm on this battlefield would get her killed.

"Kotoha, I want you to fall back, out of range, and continue to cover with Jason."

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that despite the earlier explosion, Jessica's Zaku II was coming back online. He was going to ask if she was okay, but was interrupted by Z'dain.

?Lieutenant Cloud, this is Z'dain. It looks like Ensign Morita has herself covered. But I have an idea.? he highlighted the GM he had ID'd earlier over TeamComm. ?We're gonna need to take one from the book of the Black Tri-Stars.?

It took a moment, but the message registered and Cloud nodded in his Zaku. "Roger." There were only two of them, but he could improvise. Locking onto the GM that was redirected from Z'dain, Vaan fired his thrusters to get into a line behind Z'dain. The man fired his bazooka and flew up, out of the way. It was Vaan's turn and he delivered. He first shot rounds off at the GM, then drew his heat hawk and stabbed the tip towards the GM's core.

Jason Martin
Approaching Earth's Atmosphere

The axe slashed forward, and the enemy GM blocked it like it was nothing. Which served to successfully make Jason a bit angrier than he already had been. "Dammit! I'll get you yet you Feddy-" He was interrupted by the impact of a laser shot connecting with his Zaku's leg, sending the limb sailing away, useless.

"Dammit!" Jason barked, resisting the urge to allow himself to charge forward in anger. He had done that already, and it had gotten him nowhere. That Z'dain fellow had mentioned something about a superior range, however, perhaps that was the opportunity he needed. As it were, Lieutenant Cloud was ordering him to back away to safety. He smirked triumphantly. Well, then, Lieutenant's orders. That Feddy scum was about to regret missing that shot.

Firing his thrusters at full reverse, which would probably catch the GM off guard, he whipped his machine gun out yet again and aimed for every point on the torso he could, letting loose a barrage of fire as he continued to hurtle backwards. He wasn't sure about how accurately he was shooting - he was heading in reverse at full speed and had never aimed at moving targets before - but hopefully he was laying down enough bullets and shrapnel that it wouldn't matter.

Re-Entry Battle
Nearing Point of No Return

Seeing the Sardinia in trouble, the Corsica had begun to speed up its own re-entry process, coming alongside the other cruiser. The Corsica was the more important part of the operation. It had parts, the Commander, as well as different mobile suits. It was to be command central once on the ground. Its survival was paramount. And Captain Serbik on the Sardinia knew this. "Put us between that Federation ship and the Corsica" he commanded. "I'll be dead before we lose that ship." Outside, the hulls of the three cruisers were beginning to glow a soft reddish orange color. They were hitting atmosphere.

Back with the mobile suits the fight was heating up. Kotoha, noticing that her opponent was blind and firing without any hope of hitting her, did the smart thing by firing her thrusters and retreating from the close range. Once she was out of any real danger from the GM's wild attacks, she lined it up with her bazooka and fired. The shot was straight, she had the time to aim, and the GM exploded into shrapnel. She was now alone, without a left arm for her Zaku. But at least the GM had been destroyed.

"Russel, aide Jason in a retreat. Jason, start laying down fire. Z'dain, cover me." Cloud's voice came over the comm.

But the only survivor of the Corsica's mobile suit squad had a different idea, seeing Kotoha handle her opponent. ?Lieutenant Cloud, this is Z'dain. It looks like Ensign Morita has herself covered. But I have an idea.? he highlighted the GM he had ID'd earlier over TeamComm. ?We're gonna need to take one from the book of the Black Tri-Stars.?

Without allowing for the chance that Cloud didn't know what he was speaking about, Z'dain closed in on one of the GMs. Cloud, who had understood completely, fell into line behind the other Zaku II. They didn't have the third member, but this wasn't a Gundam, it was only a GM. The Federation pilot turned to run from the approach of Z'dain, but couldn't move out of the way completely. The bazooka blast caught the back of its shield, pulling it forward. When Z'dain bailed on the attack, that left Cloud's heat hawk the perfect angle to slice the enemy mobile suit in two from groin to head. As Cloud's Zaku passed his enemy, the white and red mobile suit exploded. Jet Stream attack successful, the fallen Tri-Stars would be proud.

Jason upset with losing his leg, began to fall back along with Russel. Flying backwards, Jason began to fire his machine gun at one of the two remaining GMs. But the GMs had been given the call to fall back to their cruiser and he wasn't very accurate while flying backwards. His fire went wide as he made his way closer to the Corsica and Sardinia, where Jessica was trying to cover the two cruisers.

Over the comm, the call finally came, "Z'dain, return to the Corsica. Point of no return is approaching."

The call to everyone else went differently, however, as Serbik was commanding the squad back to the Sardinia, one of the Federation's beams hit the underbelly of the cruiser, shearing a large hole into the bottom of the ship. It was no longer going to make it to the surface. "Team, join up with the Corsica. They have room for you over there. We have to bail out of this entry. Make sure you complete this mission. Sieg Zeon!"

The GMs were almost to their cruiser, now it was up to the Zaku to make it back to safety before the heat of re-entry destroyed them.

Lieutenant Alasdair Z'dain
Fast approching the Point of No Return

It was do or die time, the Zaku II was not designed for atmospheric entry, and neither was Alasdair. The Zaku's thrusters pushed the mobile suit to its top speed towards the cruiser as it descended down towards the Corsica. It wouldn't be long before the heat on the outside the Zaku would begine to build up, and Z'dain had to get rid of the explosive rounds of the Bazooka.

A simple switch detached the secondary clip from the waist armor of the Zaku, leaving only the rounds in the Bazooka itself, but Alasdair had one last use for the gun. Relying on sensor data Z'dain positioned the gun towards the Federation ship and let the last rounds fire off before releasing the weapon. He doubted the rounds would get through but there was the smallest chance that just one impact could impair the ships ability to enter atmosphere.

Unburdened by the Bazooka the Mobile Suit brought its shield forward, hoping the extra bit of armor would help against the heat and friction. The battle had taken him farther away from the Corsica then he'd liked, and the heat was starting to build up around the suit and inside. He doubted it would be of much use but Alasdair increased his suits air conditioning to its highest setting. It would use up his oxygen faster, but he didn't exactly need a lot of oxygen.

There wasn't much else Alasdair could do but fly straight towards the Corsica. All around him heat continued to build up till he finally came within range of the cruiser. With a quick flick to his controls the mobile suits left hand reached out and grabbed the edge of the Egress hatch he'd left from earlier trying to pull itself in. The Zaku's strength pushing against the friction of the atmosphere the suit pulled itself into the cruiser, its large feet settling on the deck.

Alasdair took a deep breath as he maneuvered the Zaku towards hits maintenance alcove. He was happy to be done with that battle. The Zaku was so slow to what he was used to, it felt like he was moving in slow motion. He flipped his comm on ?This is Z'dain, I'm on board and securing myself and mobile suit for reentry.?
