Unlike the EU, it may be better to just have Han and Lando as childhood friends. When Han said he and Lando go way back, I always assumed this really meant way back, and not I met him within the past decade. Always sort of felt that the EU having Lando and Han meet 5 BBY or something was a mistake.

I wonder if we'll still get Chewie-as-Imperial-slave, given the change-up. Is it possible that instead of Han, as an Imperial, saving Chewie on Kashyyk, that we'll get Han disguised as an Imperial saving Chewie on Mimban?

Han saved Chewie on Coruscant in some throwaway reference guides. It was never novelized in Crispin etc because LFL forbade it. This will be the first time we get a media depiction of it outside these reference guides.

Way of the Wookiee was told in Star Wars Weekly #94 - 96. This was printed in the U.S. as Marvel Illustrated Books Star Wars (1981).

This story doesn't depict how Han and Chewie first met with Han freeing him from slavery, unless I'm mistaken. It's a 1 BBY story.

I am really hoping this movie is good, but out of all the new Star Wars movies it is the one I have been the most concerned about.

I had low expectations for this too, but now I'm surprisingly looking forward to it. Unlike others, I really disliked 8, so my reasoning is SW has gone so far down, the only direction it can now go is up (I hope).

I have an uneasy feeling plot wise this film will be all over the place and have no direction. I wouldn't be surprised if the movie sets up plots that go nowhere simply for the sake of "Han meets Chewie" then ten minutes later "Han makes the Kessel Run"

I was going to argue that typically Larry Kasdan does a decent job of getting you from A to B to C.

    But then Takodana happened

I'm keeping my expectations low for the most part. But I will be there opening night to watch this film regardless.

It's kind of a shame how far Making Star Wars has fallen. Back in 2014/15 they were THE place to go to get first rumors, and then spoilers, for TFA. And even the stuff they had that didn't end up to be real - in retrospect, you can look back and see how a lot of the stuff they reported plausibly came from ideas or concept art that was being considered at the time.

Now, it's mainly a website devoted to plugging its owners' 90 different podcasts and YouTube channels and interviewing other professional podcaster/YouTubers.

In this movie I am most interested to see Han rescue Chewie.

The DHC Chewbacca miniseries comic shows Han and Chewie’s first meeting with Han saving/sparing Chewie’s life.

I intend to go looped-machete eventually: IV, V, I, II, III, Kenobi (presumably), Solo, R1, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX.

But then I’m also editing the dice back into TFA and strongly intrigued by the idea of editing TFA & TLJ together into a single 5 hour movie (“The Last Jedi Awakens”? “The Dark Empire Awakens”? Hmm...). Wiping from Rey/Luke to the D’Qar evacuation seems like it would flow so well and make the saber toss gag a bit funnier.

The comments further down the thread seem to clarify that he just means people won't be excited until they know what Han's up against - there must be a villain, and "the villain makes the movie" he says.

I wonder if there is a good explanation on why Lando would gamble away the Falcon... In the EU, Lando bet any ship on his lot forgetting the Falcon was on there.

Obviously they will need to explain why the Kessel Run is measured in parsecs.

The officer enslaving Chewie could be Brendol Hux.

In the Chewbacca mini series by Marvel, there is a flashback panel where Chewie is captured by Trandoshan slavers. I wonder if that will be referenced in some way in the movie?

Maybe in the movie Chewie will already be a slave by the time we see him.
But it would be nice to see that, and Kashyyyk!
They could release a tie in prequel book or something showing that moment.
