A/V SOLO: A Star Wars Story (untagged spoilers allowed)

Somehow, through sinful apathy or general lack of character, this forum has yet to produce a thread for discussion of the upcoming Han Solo film, despite regular news coming out about it. I mean to remedy this defect.

So know that Disney is making a Han Solo film, set to appear in two years. Lord and Miller, the team behind The LEGO Movie and the 21 Jump Street films, are directing. Alden Ehrenreich, most notably seen in this year's Hail, Caesar (but who debuted in Tetro, by Lucas's old friend Francis Ford Coppola), has been cast as the young Han Solo. Several young black actresses are said to be competing for the lead female role, leading to rumors that it would be that of Sana Solo. And just today, it was announced that Donald Glover would be playing Lando. That's right, Donald Glover as young Lando is actually happening.

I am extremely excited about today's casting news. This looks like it's the closest thing to a Star Wars comedy we'll get, and they really have the talent backing it up to pull it off.

 

Anyone else expecting a Lethal Weapon banter style for young Han and Lando?

 

I intend to view this movie at the earliest possible opportunity.

 

I want it to be Rashoman, framed with Old Lando and Han in a bar talking about an adventure they had, and disagreeing with the details.

 

I could say something about Donald Glover but instead I'm laughing my ass off that we didn't have a thread for this yet.

 

Of course the Han movie only gets a thread when we find out who's playing Lando.

 

The apathy for this movie is on a whole new level. Well at least it was before today. But now the great nerd prophet has been chosen to play the most swagger man in the entire galaxy so all is right in the world

 

TBH, I just can't get excited about "untitled young Han Solo movie" where about all we know is that it also has Lando in it. I mean, good casting choice, and I'm sure I'll watch it when it comes out, but we're going to need to be a littttle closer to, y'know, actually coming out before it really gets on my radar.

 

Donald Glover. This is the most perfect casting decision in the history of the world. Right up there with Patrick Stewart as Professor X (which we take as a given these days, but does anyone else remember how perfect that felt back in 2000?) and Sam Elliot as Lee Scoresby.

Seriously, the fates have aligned. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

 

Hey, we also know Chewbacca is in it.

 

I mean, isn't having Lando in it all you would need to get excited?

 

I want it to be funny and action-packed.

 

I mostly really want the scene that Lucas wouldn't allow the HST or anything else to touch, namely, Han freeing Chewie.

 

This movie is a long ways out, but I'm liking the casting so far. Also very much looking forward to what should be a good mix of pirates, spacers, pilots, scoundrels and bounty hunters. Should be some cool new characters.

 

This movie should not be live action. Only Ford can be Han.

 

Well, we got two years to change your mind, eh.

 

World War 3 may delay it.
