Something that really anoys me about ROTJ

Why does Luke say to Han: I used to live here you know?
And why doesn't Han respond: Yeah, I remeber meeting you here you dim-wit?

 

Why does this annoy you? What's wrong with "You're gonna die here, you know. Convenient."
It's a great line.

 

You know, it's not like Luke is asking if Han knows that he used to live there. He knows that Han knows that. That's why he says "I used to live here, you know."

 

That exchange doesn't bother me, one that does though is:

Han: Hey Luke, thanks, thanks for coming after me, I owe you one

Doesn't Luke owe Han two? So Han should say something like, "now you only owe me one, kid".

 

Luke was trying to bring a little comic relief to the scene.

It's just like in AOTC where Anakin says, "We came to rescue you."

 

SLAVE2: Han was turning over a new leaf. He was ready to forget about the past and just be there for his friends from then on. As far as he was concerned, Luke never owed him anything

 

OR

You could go with Luke owning Han 2...

Luke rescues Han (1), the woman he loves (1) and his best friend in the galaxy (1).

So, 2-3 = Han owing Luke one...

 

That's true. Luke rescued Han, Leia, and Chewie.

He also saved 3-PO and R2. And he also relieved Lando from his duties as Jabba's skiff guard.

 

That's a great line dude.

 

I love those scenes. The way Han still doesn't believe in the Jedi. He still treats Luke like a punk kid, not realizing that his best friend is now a full fledged Jedi, who can kick tremendous ass.

Yup, that one used to niggle me too. Apparently Luke's rescue was worth the two he owed Han plus an extra one as well.
Mind you, that's what comes from years of negotiating with Hutts. You lose all sense of common numeracy.

"you know" is an expression used in understanding and comprehending. It's not used as a questionable expression in this tense. It's a present tense understanding. Luke is conveying to Han that he remember that Luke lived here growing up.

So, 2-3 = Han owing Luke one...

You know, that makes sense. I never could figure that one out.

Firstly, Luke was just reminding Han that he used to live on Tatooine. No big deal there, and Han's retort is great!

Regarding who owes who anything, Han was basically saying that what Luke did--coming to rescue him from Jabba--was so appreciated, Han felt he now owed Luke in return, no matter how many times in the past Han had saved Luke.

 

I always felt it was like "Now I owe you one...(but you still owe me two)"

Atleast you didn't say that the Ewoks annoyed you. These 2 lines don't bother me.
