I think that this is a Saga-only thing. Also, although I do not understand it yet, there is a female Sith/Dark Jedi in/during the Clone Wars (previews of the Clone Wars cartoon). Someone correct me if that "albino" is a guy.

The movies don't have any dark-side women, presumably as women are not supposed to be saber-wielding evil baddies. There are several in the EU, though.

Most say the Thrawn Triliogy. Others the X-wing series. Or Truce at Bakura, which takes place the day after ROTJ.

EDIT: Oh, and those were Palpatines successors or something. THey arent women!

Wow, that's a lot, but theres tons of comics too. I can think of the NJO, Thrawn, X-wing, Courtship of Princes leia, Truce at Bakura, some e-books, fan fics, Shatterpoint, I jedi, that one that takes place after Episode 1, theres probably many many more. And I dont have a link sorry. :p

EDIT: the Essential Chronology is all that summed up. Well, sorta, cuz it only goes up to all books made around the time of Episode one, so it wont have NJO in there.

I believe you are referring to one of the royal guards. Wearing a long red robe, right?

Considering we've only seen 4 Sith in the movies, it's not that surprising we haven't seen a female Sith.

Now, if we'd never seen a female JEDI, that would be a little odd. :)

The Thrawn trilogy is a good place to start. Shadows of the Empire and the Han Solo Trilogy are also highly recommended. :)

I would guess there are no female Sith in the canon (something that's always made me feel like there's a void in my need for a role model) because Lucas wanted to avoid falling into the trap of having to make a female villain sexy. Modern audiences tend not to accept women who aren't attractive, and the whole point of the Sith is there's nothing sexy about them. They sacrifice everything for their love of Force strength.

jedi_john: This is what canon means:

"Gospel, or canon as we refer to it, includes the screenplays, the films, the radio dramas, and the novelisations. These works spin out of George Lucas' original stories, the rest are written by other writers. However, between us, we've read everything, and much of it is taken into account in the overall continuity. The entire catalogue of published works comprises a vast history -- with many off-shoots, variations, and tangents -- like any other well-developed mythology."
    -The LucasFilm Licensing Continuity Editors

Basically, canon means the parts of Star Wars accepted as officially what happened - the films, much of the EU, etc.
