Is anyone else a fan of this John Barry score?

I've yet to listen to the full score, but what I've heard so far has been very lovely. There are two album releases out there and I'm trying to decide which to get. Should I get the original soundtrack or the Varese Sarabande re-recording?

Hmmm, I was under the impression that more people here had heard of the score.

Sorry SotS...I've never even seen the movie. I didn't know that it would have a nice score.

Like many other Barry scores, the score is a big part of the movie and very memorable. The movie is a tear jerker, and the score helps it.

For those who have seen the movie, the tune that Reeves sings is Rachmoninoff's, not Barry's. Looks like both the OST and rerecording have it.

I have not listened to the OST on its own.

I'm leaning towards the OST. I've never bought a re-recording before.

BTW, thanks for dropping by, Kirk.

I saw the movie once. I don't remember the score.

I'll have to get it on Netflix then. I'll post my report then :)

I have an interesting story about this particular score.

I was in a music store at Houston's Galleria about 8 or 9 years
after this film came out, and I was looking through the soundtracks
on the rack. There were a bunch of movie scores that I wanted to buy,
but could not find. Recent films, too.

But they had like half a dozen copies in stock of the score for
"Somewhere in Time." I'm thinking, what is going on here? This movie
wasn't a huge hit, and it was released almost a decade ago. Why are
they so well-stocked on this old John Barry score?

I asked a clerk about it, and the guy said, "yeah, it's one of the most
popular scores...we have constant requests for it from customers. Rather
than keep ordering individual copies of it, we order it in bulk now. We
can't keep it on the shelves."

I was amazed. Apparently a LOT of people love and cherish this score.

The re-recording does very little for me, so go with the original. It's only five minutes shorter or so.

Thanks, Mastadge. I've decided on the OST. I hope to pick it up later this month.
